I think it takes everyone a while to figure out what they do and be when they grow up. As a multiracial physically disabled woman, my background and limitations have fostered interests varying from Fashion Design and Travel to Psychology and Healthcare Administration. It’s taken me some time and several degrees to figure out what I want to do, and what I can do. Being born with a physical disability to an African American mother and a Caucasian father, I’ve had a lot to figure out and work through. Everything that I am, contributes to my journey and what I want to be. I’ve been lucky enough to be a first-generation college student and earn a Bachelor's in Fashion Design as well as a Master’s in Psychology (from the UK). I’ve loved learning new things and gaining amazing experiences. Throughout it all, I’ve had struggles that I've persisted through and worked hard to overcome. Every day, even doing the simplest of things, is a challenge and because of my life, I have gained resiliency. I’m proud of the things I’ve accomplished, but I’ve never been prouder than when I was helping people. I had hoped to use my background to become a therapist, but when that was no longer an option, I realized there are many ways to help people. One way is administrative work and I happen to have an affinity for it. Ultimately, I hope to use my background and experiences to help people through administration in healthcare. I’m not entirely sure what that looks like or where it’ll lead, but I’m confident that my first step in achieving it is to earn my MBA in Healthcare Administration.
