When I was 5, I had to move to Taiwan for a year to live with my grandparents. Before then, I had lived with my mom for most of my life, so this transition was really tough for me. The move wasn’t just about living in a new place; it was a complete change in my daily life and routines. I had to get used to a new culture, a new language, and a new way of living, all without my mom. This was a huge challenge for me as a young child. During that year in Taiwan, I got used to speaking Mandarin all the time. Because of this, I forgot how to speak English and Spanish, which were the languages I used before the move. This language barrier wasn’t just a communication issue; it also made me feel disconnected from my old life. When I came back to the United States, it was like I had to start from scratch. I struggled to understand and speak English and Spanish again, which made it really hard to fit back into my previous life and school. On top of the language challenges, I wasn’t in great shape physically when I came back. It was clear that I hadn’t been as well taken care of in Taiwan as I had been with my mom. I looked unhealthy and wasn’t in good physical condition, which made adjusting even harder. But my mom never gave up on me. She took charge right away, making sure I got all the medical attention I needed. She took me to doctor’s appointments, checkups, and dental visits, ensuring I got the care necessary to get better. My mom didn’t just focus on my health, though. She also made sure I caught up academically. Even though she never went to college herself, she understood the importance of education and wanted me to have opportunities she never had. She pushed me to do well in school, always motivating and supporting me. Her belief in hard work and education made me want to succeed. Thanks to her constant encouragement and support, I not only caught up but also excelled in school. I became an honor student, which shows how much her influence and dedication paid off. My mom’s sacrifices and efforts have made me who I am today. She has always been there for me, no matter how tough things got. Her wish for me to have a better life has driven many of my achievements. Right now, she has encouraged me to look into a career in Biomedical Engineering, a field I’m really excited about. Her guidance has shown me new possibilities and inspired me to aim high. I owe my successes to her unwavering support and love. My mom will always be the most important person in my life, standing by my side through every challenge and victory.
