When I was younger I always enjoyed watching movies about cars like “Cars”, “Herbie Goes Fully Loaded”, “Fast and Furious”, etc. If you were to ask me at that time why I was so interested in watching cars racing I would’ve just said that they look cool. But as I got older and started watching NASCAR it made me realize that I wanted to start learning more about cars and their mechanic structure and to pursue a career in this field. Since I didn’t know anything about working on cars and didn't have any family members who are mechanics or work in an auto body shop to teach me I decided to enroll in a program that my school was offering. The program was to do a summer welding course and during the school year (currently) to do an apprenticeship at Gerber Collision & Glass to learn what each position's role in the shop is to keep it functioning. Even though I have only been at the auto body shop for three months it’s making me want to pursue this career even more. I either plan to go to a trade school for automotive services or a college that offers that program of mechanical engineering. Although I’m still deciding on a school, I know that I want to push myself in this career to be able to make it into the motorsports industry. I know I can succeed in this direction and path to motorsports by pushing myself to make myself better by getting familiar with working on cars or even majoring in mechanical engineering to be the one who designs the structure of motorsports vehicles. Despite getting some comments that this is a “men’s workforce” it only motivates me more to prove others wrong that women can do it too. I know I play an effective role in the automotive industry if I keep pressing on my own time and pick a good school that can help me succeed even more to strengthen my skills and maybe even teach others if they're deciding to go the same path and don’t know where to start. Having a work ethic is important but also having other skills such as problem-solving, communication skills, a strong focus, and paying attention to detail no matter how small it is then in the future when applying to jobs or if you already have one you’’ stand out as a reliable candidate/co-worker that knows how to get their job done.
