In one tenth of a second, you have already made a judgment on me. Statistically speaking, that’s true. With such quickness we stereotype, praise, or dislike those around us. Knowing nothing of their experiences. In a perfect world we would all get along and think the best of one another. That is not reality, though. We often make judgments of others not realizing they are only a product of their environment. Many people who we may view as a “problem” might not have ever been taught proper coping strategies, are dealing with trauma, or have never seen a healthy relationship in their life. This is why mental health is something I am extremely passionate about. I want to give people who are struggling a chance at a high quality of life. We all deserve happiness. My aspirations are to help those in need, primarily those in low income communities. There is a correlation between poverty and crime, but poverty is also a cause of mental health issues. Offering guidance and support to those most in need is something I am hoping to accomplish one day. I am currently working on a bachelor’s of science in psychology with the intent to enter a masters program in mental health counseling to achieve this goal.
