Online ADHD Diagnosis Mental Health Scholarship for Women
Managing the Mind and How Mental Health Impacts My Academic and Personal Life
By Jocelyn Garcia
My name is Jocelyn Garcia, and I’m from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This fall I will be attending Ottawa University in Kansas to study Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy. For the first time in my life, I’ll be over 22 hours away from my family which are the people who have been my biggest support system. That distance is both exciting and scary especially while managing anxiety and the challenges that often mirror ADHD symptoms. But I’m ready to grow and I know that prioritizing my mental health is what will make this transition successful.
My mental health impacts nearly every part of my academic and personal life. In school anxiety doesn’t just show up during big tests it’s present in the constant pressure to perform, the fear of failure, and the difficulty focusing when my mind won’t slow down. I’ve often struggled with racing thoughts, forgetfulness, restlessness, and the urge to procrastinate which are all symptoms often seen in ADHD but rarely acknowledged in young women. These challenges made me question my abilities early on but now I understand they’re part of how my brain works and that I can learn to work with it.
Over time I’ve built habits that help me stay grounded. I rely on checklists, break big tasks into smaller steps, and set aside quiet time for myself when I start to feel overwhelmed. Most importantly, I’ve learned to use flag football as a way to manage my mental health. On the field I find peace. The movement helps calm my anxiety and the structure helps me stay present. When I play, I’m not second guessing myself I’m confident, focused, and in control.
I know that leaving home and being far from my family will be a new emotional challenge. They’ve always been the ones to talk me down from panic, offer encouragement, or just sit with me when I need support. Moving 22 hours away will test my independence but I see it as a chance to grow and prove to myself that I can take care of both my academic goals and my mental health on my own. I plan to stay connected with them through regular calls but also build a new support system at school through teammates, professors, and counselors.
My mental health journey has also shaped how I interact with others. I’ve learned to be open about my struggles and that honesty has helped me form deeper and more supportive relationships. I’ve become more empathetic and patient not just with others but with myself. I want to bring that same energy into my future career.
That’s why I’ve chosen to pursue sports medicine and physical therapy. I want to support athletes not only through physical healing but also through the mental and emotional toll that comes with injury and high-performance expectations. I know firsthand that the body and mind are deeply connected and I want to treat both.
Receiving the Online ADHD Diagnosis Mental Health Scholarship for Women would lift a financial burden off my shoulders and allow me to focus more fully on school and self-growth. It’s not just about paying for college it’s about giving me the stability I need to keep thriving even when I’m far from home.
Mental health is not a weakness it’s part of life. With the right tools and support I’ve learned how to manage mine and I’m ready to help others do the same.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Breaking Stigmas and Finding Strength Through Sport
Jocelyn Garcia
I’ve chosen to pursue my education at Ottawa University majoring in sports medicine because I want to help others especially athletes care for both their physical and mental well-being. Through my own experience, I’ve realized that physical health and mental health are deeply connected. When I’m on the field playing flag football, I’m not just exercising my body I’m calming my mind. The rhythm of the game, the focus it demands, and the bond with my teammates help silence the noise of anxiety. Flag football has become more than just a sport for me it’s a form of therapy.
Mental health has always been a deeply personal journey for me one that has shaped the way I view myself, my goals, and the world around me. Living with anxiety can feel like you're constantly walking on uneven ground unsure of your next step. But instead of letting that fear define me, I’ve learned to face it head-on, using flag football as both my outlet and my sanctuary. Sports have not only grounded me but have also helped me find purpose and direction. They’ve given me community, structure, and healing things I now hope to give back through a career in sports medicine and physical therapy.
Opening up about mental health hasn’t always been easy. There’s still a strong stigma around talking about anxiety and depression especially in athletic spaces where strength is often misunderstood as silence. This is why the Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship means so much to me. Ethel Hayes was a champion of breaking barriers and I strive to do the same by speaking openly about my mental health and encouraging others to do so. I want to be a voice in the sports community that says it's okay to ask for help, to feel overwhelmed, and to need support.
My struggles have taught me the value of compassion and empathy qualities I hope to carry with me into my future career. As a physical therapist I won’t just be helping athletes recover from injuries I’ll be helping them reconnect with their bodies and minds. I know how important it is to feel seen and heard when you're hurting in ways that aren't visible. I want to create a safe space for my future patients where healing goes beyond the physical and includes emotional and psychological support.
My relationships have also been shaped by my mental health journey. I’ve learned to communicate more openly with those around me, to ask for help when I need it, and to offer support when others are struggling. I’ve become more aware of how mental health affects everyone differently and that understanding has made me a better teammate, friend, and leader. The bond I share with my flag football team goes beyond the game. We check in with each other, we lift each other up, and we make sure no one feels alone on or off the field. We are a family.
Looking ahead my goal is to help rewrite the narrative around mental health in sports. I want to be part of a new generation of healthcare providers who treat the whole person, not just the injury. I want to advocate for mental health education in athletic programs and show young athletes that strength comes in many forms including vulnerability and self-awareness.
Receiving the Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship would not only support my education at Ottawa University but also fuel my mission to break down the stigma surrounding mental health. I am committed to using my experiences and my passion for flag football as a platform to empower others, promote healing, and create lasting change in both the medical and athletic worlds.
Headbang For Science
My name is Jocelyn Garcia and I’m a driven, resilient, and passionate student pursuing a career in physical therapy. I come from a working-class background where discipline, hard work, and loyalty were non-negotiables values that also happen to define the heavy metal music I’ve grown up loving. For me, metal is more than music. It’s an outlet, a force, a survival tool. It’s been the soundtrack to my growth and grit, and it continues to inspire my journey forward both personally and professionally.
I’m currently working toward becoming a licensed physical therapist assistant with plans to continue my education to eventually become a Doctor of Physical Therapy. My academic goals are centered around mastering the science of movement and rehabilitation, while my professional goals are rooted in service, I want to bring accessible, culturally competent care to communities often left behind by the healthcare system. In particular, I hope to open a mobile physical therapy service that can reach underserved rural areas, veterans, and low-income neighborhoods. Through physical therapy, I want to help people reclaim their strength, independence, and confidence just like music helped me reclaim mine during difficult times.
This scholarship award would be a game-changer for me. As a first-generation college student, I carry the weight of not only my dreams but also my family's hopes. I’ve worked part-time jobs, cut expenses, and saved every dollar I could, but tuition and education-related costs are still a constant source of stress. Financial support from this scholarship would allow me to focus more fully on my clinical training, volunteer work, and academic performance rather than worrying about how to afford next semester’s books or fees. Simply put, this scholarship would bring me one step closer to breaking generational barriers and building a meaningful career.
To pay for my education, I’ve been piecing together a plan that includes federal student aid, part-time work, and personal savings. I’ve also been applying for scholarships and grants like this one, hoping to fill the gaps without taking on overwhelming debt. I’m determined to stay on track, and every bit of support helps me stay grounded in that mission.
I think it’s important to mention that heavy metal music has been one of the most grounding influences in my life. Whether it’s the raw emotion in the vocals, the defiant rhythm of the guitars, or the unrelenting power of the drums, metal speaks to something primal and real in me. Bands like Pantera, Lamb of God, and Gojira have carried me through long nights of studying, tough times at home, and moments of self-doubt. Metal reminds me that power comes from persistence, and that’s exactly the mindset I bring to my academic and professional journey.
To me heavy metal is about expression, resilience, and unapologetic authenticity. It’s the music of fighters and survivors people who rise after being knocked down. That spirit is what I channel every day as I work toward becoming a healthcare provider who not only treats physical injuries but also supports emotional healing and strength. I want to give my future patients what metal gave me a sense of power and the will to push forward.
Thank you for considering my application. I hope to bring the same intensity, dedication, and sense of purpose to my career in physical therapy that I’ve always found in heavy metal.
Empower Her Scholarship
My journey has not always been easy. Like many young women pursuing careers in sports and science I’ve faced doubts pressure, and moments where giving up seemed like the easier option. But empowerment rooted in mt Christian faith, support, and self-belief has kept me going. I’ve learned that being empowered means showing up even when the odds are against you especially being the underdog most of the time. It means taking up space in classrooms, on fields, and in professions where women are underrepresented.
To me empowerment means the ability to believe in yourself and take control of your future no matter the obstacles. It’s not just a feeling it’s a driving force that turns dreams into goals and goals into reality. Empowerment is about rising up not only for yourself but also for those who will follow in your footsteps. As a woman continuing my education in exercise science at Ottawa University while also playing collegiate flag football and aspiring to become a sports medicine physical therapist empowerment is at the heart of everything I do.
Attending Ottawa University is more than just the next step in my education it’s a continuation of a purpose driven path. Studying exercise science brings me closer to my goal of becoming a sports medicine physical therapist which is a role where I can help athletes recover, grow stronger, and return to doing what they love. Through my own experiences as an athlete, I understand the physical and mental toll injuries can take. I want to be the kind of therapist who empowers others to heal and push forward with confidence.
Playing collegiate flag football is another powerful piece of my empowerment journey. It gives me strength, discipline, and a platform. As a female athlete I know how important representation is. I want younger girls to see me on the field and realize they can pursue sports too that their strength is valuable and that their passion matters.
Empowerment has also taught me that leadership is not about having all the answers it’s about listening, learning, and lifting others as you climb. I hope to be that kind of leader both in my future career and in my community. Whether it's mentoring younger students, encouraging teammates, or one day opening a clinic that focuses on holistic athletic care I aim to pass the empowerment I’ve received forward.
Receiving the Empower Her Scholarship would not only support my educational goals it would validate the work I’ve put in and help me continue moving forward with purpose. Empowerment has changed my life. With the right support I’m determined to change lives.
Mark Green Memorial Scholarship
I am deeply passionate about pursuing a career in Sports Medicine, and I believe I deserve a scholarship to help achieve my goals. Growing up, I have always been fascinated by the human body’s ability to heal and adapt, especially in the context of athletic performance. My love for sports and physical activity has shown me the importance of maintaining the body’s health to ensure athletes can perform at their best. This sparked my interest in Sports Medicine, which combines my enthusiasm for sports with my desire to help people recover, improve, and stay healthy.
Sports Medicine is not only a field that aligns with my personal interests but also one that has a broader impact on society. In a world where physical activity is central to both health and recreation, injuries are an inevitable part of an athlete's life, whether professional or amateur. By pursuing a degree in Sports Medicine, I aim to contribute to advancements in injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement. I want to help athletes of all levels return to their sports stronger than ever, ultimately contributing to the overall health and well-being of the community.
My ability to give back to the community by offering these services will contribute to a healthier more active population and provide me with a chance to positively influence those who may be struggling due to lack of resources. My education in sports medicine and physical therapy will allow me to serve others in many ways from rehabilitating athletes and preventing injuries to empowering individuals with chronic conditions to regain their independence. By gaining knowledge in the science of healing, biomechanics, and injury prevention. I will be equipped to make a physical difference in people's lives. The ultimate goal of my education is not only to heal and restore function to individuals but to give back to the community through education, outreach, and compassion. This field is about more than just physical recovery it’s about restoring hope, health, and opportunity to those who need it most.
Ottawa University offers a comprehensive program that aligns perfectly with my aspirations. The opportunity to learn from experts, engage in hands-on experiences, and benefit from the college's state-of-the-art facilities will provide the tools necessary to succeed in this field. The institution's reputation for preparing students for impactful careers in healthcare and its commitment to excellence makes it the ideal place for me to cultivate my skills and knowledge. I am confident that a scholarship from The Mark Green Memorial Scholarship will allow me to fully immerse myself in my studies and make meaningful contributions to the field of Sports Medicine in the future.
Richard (Dunk) Matthews II Scholarship
My name is Jocelyn Garcia and I am currently pursuing a career in physical therapy a field that combines science, compassion, and hands-on care to improve people’s lives. Physical therapy, to me, is more than a profession it’s a calling rooted in service, healing, and empowerment. I have always been fascinated by the body’s ability to recover and adapt, and I am deeply motivated by the opportunity to help individuals regain their strength, mobility, and confidence.
My journey began when I witnessed a close family member struggle with mobility after an accident. The road to recovery was long and filled with both physical and emotional challenges, but it was the physical therapist’s dedication that made all the difference. That experience inspired me to explore the trade more seriously, and I quickly realized that I wanted to dedicate my life to this work. Now, I’m working toward becoming a licensed physical therapist assistant with the goal of eventually opening my own practice or mobile service.
Mastering this trade will require not only technical skill but also continued education, real-world experience, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. I plan to take full advantage of every opportunity to learn both in and outside the classroom. Whether it’s through internships, volunteer work, or shadowing experienced therapists, I am eager to absorb knowledge and refine my abilities. I understand that being a great therapist isn’t just about knowing anatomy it’s about listening, adapting, and earning trust.
In addition to the technical aspects, I believe emotional intelligence and communication are critical skills in physical therapy. Many patients are in pain, scared, or frustrated. My goal is to become someone they can rely on not just for physical guidance, but for encouragement and emotional support. I want to be the kind of practitioner who sees the person, not just the injury.
Once I am established in my trade, I plan to give back by serving communities that often go without care. Too many people especially in low-income or rural areas lack access to quality physical therapy. I want to change that by bringing services directly to them through mobile clinics, school partnerships, and community outreach events. I also plan to mentor young people interested in healthcare careers, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to help diversify and strengthen the field.
Long term, I hope to create a community health initiative that offers free or low-cost physical therapy education covering injury prevention, basic mobility exercises, and wellness practices. I believe that empowering people with knowledge is just as important as treating injuries. When individuals understand how their bodies work and how to care for them, they gain a sense of control and confidence that can transform their lives.
I see physical therapy not only as a skilled trade, but as a tool for empowerment. Through dedication, continuous learning, and community involvement, I am determined to master this trade and use it to uplift others. My mission is simple help people move better, live healthier, and feel supported every step of the way.
El Jefe Entrepreneurial Scholarship
My name is Jocelyn Garcia and I am a passionate advocate for holistic health, functional mobility, and community-driven care. I was first drawn to physical therapy not only because of its potential to heal the body but also because of its power to transform lives physically, emotionally, and socially. After experiencing firsthand how physical therapy helped a close family member recover from a debilitating injury, I became inspired to pursue this field as both a clinician and a future entrepreneur.
My approach to entrepreneurship is rooted in empathy, evidence-based practice, and accessibility. I believe that physical therapy should not be a luxury reserved for the few, but a resource that empowers individuals of all backgrounds to live more active, pain-free lives. This belief shapes both my professional goals and my long-term vision: to build an inclusive, community-centered physical therapy practice that bridges gaps in care for underserved populations.
In today’s healthcare landscape, many people particularly those in rural, low-income, or marginalized communities face significant barriers to accessing consistent physical therapy. Transportation challenges, high costs, lack of education about preventative care, and cultural stigmas often lead to worsening injuries and chronic pain. My mission is to break down these barriers through a mobile physical therapy business model that delivers care directly to where people are: in their homes, workplaces, and community centers.
In addition to mobile services, I plan to develop educational workshops and digital content that empower individuals to take ownership of their health. These resources would be tailored to different age groups, occupational backgrounds, and mobility levels, ensuring relevance and impact. By partnering with schools, local businesses, and community health organizations, I can foster environments where movement is encouraged, injury prevention is understood, and physical well-being is prioritized.
Entrepreneurship in physical therapy, to me, is not just about building a successful business it’s about building a sustainable model for social good. I aim to hire a diverse team of practitioners who reflect the communities we serve, and who are trained in trauma-informed care and cultural competence. By doing so, I hope to create a practice that doesn’t just treat patients, but truly understands them.
Technology will also play a key role in my business. I plan to incorporate telehealth and app-based tracking tools to ensure continuity of care, especially for patients who may not be able to attend regular in-person sessions. This hybrid model combining high-touch human care with the efficiency of digital tools will enable us to scale our impact while maintaining quality and compassion.
In summary, my goal as a physical therapy entrepreneur is to redefine what accessible, empathetic care looks like. By integrating mobility, education, technology, and community partnerships, I hope to create a business that not only helps people recover but thrive. I believe that movement is a basic human right, and through my work, I’m committed to making that belief a reality for as many people as possible.
Let Your Light Shine Scholarship
BE THE REASON SOMEONE SMILES TODAY!
When I think about the legacy I want to leave behind, I imagine a life spent empowering others to reclaim their strength, health, and independence. My goal is not just to have a successful career, but to build something lasting something that continues to impact lives long after my workday ends. As I study Exercise Science at Ottawa University and prepare for a career in physical therapy, I am laying the foundation for a future built on compassion, service, and leadership.
I hope to open my own physical therapy clinic not just as a business but as a center of healing and hope for my community. I want it to be a place where people feel seen, heard, and supported regardless of their background, income level, or physical limitations. My vision is to offer high-quality, affordable care to those who need it most, including athletes recovering from injuries, elderly individuals working to regain mobility, and patients dealing with chronic pain or trauma. I also hope to provide internships or mentorships for students pursuing careers in healthcare, so they too can grow, learn, and pass on their knowledge.
The legacy I want to create is about more than just helping people heal physically. It’s about helping them believe in themselves again. Physical therapy is not only about movement and muscle it’s about restoring confidence, dignity, and the ability to live fully. I want every person who walks into my clinic to leave feeling stronger, inside and out.
I shine my light by showing up for people when they need encouragement the most. Whether it’s helping someone work through a difficult recovery or simply being a listening ear, I lead with empathy and positivity. I believe that one small act of kindness can spark lasting change, and I do my best to live that truth every day. Even now, before officially entering the profession, I look for ways to support and motivate others in my community whether that’s through volunteering, mentoring, or being someone people can count on.
I also strive to lead by example. As a student, I stay committed to my goals, work hard, and take pride in my growth. I hope that others, especially young people who may not have many role models in healthcare or higher education, can see my journey and feel inspired to pursue their own dreams.
I want my legacy to be measured not by titles or achievements, but by the lives I’ve touched, the opportunities I’ve created for others, and the hope I’ve helped restore. With the education I receive at Ottawa University and the experiences I gain along the way I believe I will be fully prepared to build a business and a legacy that truly makes a difference.
Willie Mae Rawls Scholarship
As I begin my college journey, my goals are centered around academic excellence, athletic engagement, and personal development. I plan to pursue a major in Exercise Science or Kinesiology with the ultimate goal of becoming a licensed physical therapist. My passion for helping others regain their strength and mobility especially after injuries is what drives me toward this field. Physical therapy combines my love of sports, science, and service into a career that makes a direct impact on individuals’ lives.
Academically I aim to maintain a strong GPA and take full advantage of internships and volunteer opportunities in rehabilitation clinics and sports medicine facilities. I am particularly interested in working with athletes recovering from injuries, helping them return to their peak performance levels. Long-term, I aspire to open a community-based physical therapy clinic that offers affordable and accessible care for underserved populations.
This path not only fulfills my personal interests but also allows me to give back in a meaningful way. I believe that everyone deserves the chance to live a healthy, active life regardless of income or background. By becoming a physical therapist, I can provide both healing and hope to those who need it most.
Community service has also been a cornerstone of my high school experience. I’ve volunteered over 275 hours at the local optimist with youth children and at the children’s ministry at my church. These experiences taught me empathy, patience, and the power of consistent support.
These academic and extracurricular accomplishments have shaped me into a resilient, dedicated, and service-oriented individual. I am proud of what I’ve achieved, but even more excited about the impact I can make in college and beyond.
Giving back has always been a part of who I am, and I plan to continue this commitment throughout college and into my career. My ultimate goal is to use my physical therapy degree to bring healing and empowerment to communities that often go overlooked. I want to open a clinic that not only treats patients but also educates them on injury prevention, wellness, and mobility.
Beyond the clinical side I hope to launch initiatives that combine sports and health education particularly targeting at-risk youth. I believe that sports can be a gateway to structure, motivation, and community. By organizing free flag football clinics and fitness workshops I can help kids develop confidence, leadership skills, and healthy habits that last a lifetime.
Another way I want to give back is by mentoring students who like me aspire to enter the healthcare field. I understand the challenges of navigating college applications, scholarships, and finding a career path that aligns with both passion and purpose. By sharing my experiences, I hope to lift others up and make their path a little easier.
I’ve faced challenges but instead of letting them define me, I’ve used them to grow. My experiences have instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and a commitment to making the world a better, healthier place. I am not just preparing for a career I’m preparing for a life of meaningful service.
The scholarship would provide the financial support I need to pursue my goals without the burden of excessive student debt. More importantly being selected would validate the efforts I’ve made and inspire me to keep pushing forward knowing that others believe in my potential.
If given this opportunity I will carry the values of this foundation with me in my studies, my sportsmanship, my service, and eventually in the care I provide as a physical therapist. I am ready to learn, to lead, and to lift others along the way.
Sean Kelly Memorial Scholarship
I am excited to begin my academic journey at Ottawa University where I will be majoring in Exercise Science. I have always been passionate about understanding how the human body moves, heals, and strengthens. This passion has fueled my decision to pursue a career in physical therapy, where I can help others regain mobility, reduce pain, and improve their overall quality of life.
I was always active in sports and became very familiar with the role physical therapists play in helping athletes recover from injuries. My interest in this field deepened when I saw how physical therapy changed the life of a close family member who suffered from a stroke. Through consistent therapy and the dedication of professionals who truly cared, they were able to regain strength and independence. Watching that process unfold inspired me to pursue a career where I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
At Ottawa University I am looking forward to immersing myself in courses that focus on anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and rehabilitation sciences. I believe that a strong foundation in Exercise Science is essential to becoming an effective and knowledgeable physical therapist. The hands-on experience and supportive learning environment that Ottawa offers will give me the tools I need to succeed both academically and professionally.
Receiving this scholarship would significantly ease the financial burden of college and allow me to fully focus on my studies and volunteer work. As a first-generation college student, I am deeply aware of the value of education and the sacrifices that my family and I have made to make this dream possible. This scholarship will not only help cover tuition and educational expenses but also bring me one step closer to achieving my long-term goal of attending graduate school for physical therapy.
Beyond academics I am committed to giving back to my community. I plan to volunteer at local clinics and physical therapy centers while pursuing my degree, so I can gain real-world experience and serve others. Long-term, I hope to work in a clinical setting where I can help patients recover from injuries, surgeries, and chronic conditions, and eventually open a practice that provides affordable, accessible care to underserved populations.
This scholarship represents more than just financial assistance it represents opportunity, growth, and the ability to give back. With your support, I will be able to focus fully on my education, gain valuable experience, and move closer to my dream of becoming a physical therapist. Thank you for considering my application and for helping students like me turn our goals into reality.
TRAM Purple Phoenix Scholarship
Education also plays a key role in breaking the cycle of generational violence. Children who grow up in abusive households often internalize the dynamics they observe, whether they take on the role of victim or perpetrator in adulthood. Schools can serve as safe spaces where students are exposed to alternative, nonviolent models of interaction. Teachers, counselors, and mentors who are trained to recognize and respond to signs of trauma can intervene before patterns of abuse become entrenched. Over time, this type of support can interrupt intergenerational transmission and foster resilience.
Intimate partner violence is a deeply rooted societal issue that affects individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. While legal systems, shelters, and support networks play crucial roles in addressing the aftermath of IPV, education stands out as one of the most effective tools for prevention. By empowering individuals with knowledge, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence, education can challenge the norms and behaviors that sustain cycles of abuse.
One of the most significant ways education can reduce IPV is by promoting awareness and early intervention. Many people do not recognize the signs of emotional, psychological, or financial abuse until they escalate into physical violence. By incorporating discussions about healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, and conflict resolution into school curricula, we can teach young people what respectful behavior looks like from an early age. These lessons can help them identify red flags, seek help when needed, and avoid perpetuating harmful behaviors themselves.
Furthermore, education fosters empowerment, particularly for individuals who are at a higher risk of experiencing IPV such as women and members of marginalized communities. When people are educated, they are more likely to achieve financial independence, understand their legal rights, and access resources that help them escape abusive environments. A person who is aware of available support systems and equipped with life skills is far less likely to feel trapped in a dangerous relationship.
Another essential aspect is challenging societal norms and stereotypes through education. Gender roles, toxic masculinity, and victim-blaming attitudes contribute significantly to the normalization of violence in intimate relationships. Education particularly in higher education institutions can question and deconstruct these harmful ideologies through courses in gender studies, sociology, psychology, and ethics. Discussions in diverse classrooms also expose students to different perspectives and foster empathy, which is a crucial component in preventing violence.
Lastly, education empowers future professionals such as social workers, teachers, health care providers, and law enforcement officers with the training and sensitivity needed to respond to IPV effectively. Their informed actions can save lives and contribute to a more compassionate, trauma informed system of care.
Education is not just a means to individual success it is a vital strategy for cultural transformation. By equipping individuals with knowledge, empathy, and critical awareness, education lays the groundwork for a society that does not tolerate intimate partner violence and actively works to prevent it. The more we invest in education as a tool for social change, the closer we come to a future where everyone can feel safe and respected in their relationships.
Bear Fan Scholarship
As a dedicated fan of The Bear, the perfect ending for me would be one that balances healing, growth, and a sense of earned peace without losing the messy, raw emotion that makes the show so powerful. The kitchen may always be chaotic, but I want the characters to find their own versions of fulfillment and purpose, even if everything doesn’t wrap up in a perfectly neat bow. For Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, the journey has never really been about success it’s been about forgiveness. In the final episode, I’d love to see Carmy finally let go of the guilt that’s been eating him alive since Mikey’s death. The restaurant, The Bear, earns its first Michelin star not because Carmy was chasing prestige, but because he poured his soul into building something meaningful with the people around him. After a breakdown moment in the walk-in (of course), he opens up emotionally to Sydney not romantically, but as a partner. He learns how to be present. He even takes a day off. That’s real growth. Sydney deserves to step into her power. In the perfect ending, she co owns The Bear with Carmy, with full creative authority in the kitchen. Her vision and leadership shine. She mentors a young female line cook, showing how far she’s come. While her relationship with Carmy remains complex and beautifully platonic, it’s based on mutual respect. Sydney finally feels like she belongs because she helped build the space where she does. “Cousin” Richie has the most unexpected but satisfying arc. In the final season, he continues his transformation from chaotic wildcard to steady right hand. He becomes the face of the front-of-house, training staff and managing the chaos with charm and confidence. He repairs his relationship with his daughter and begins co-parenting more actively. Maybe he even meets someone special not to complete him, but to reflect how much he’s grown.
Tina continues to thrive as sous-chef and becomes a mother figure in the kitchen. Ebraheim opens up more, becoming both comic relief and a quiet source of wisdom. Together, they symbolize tradition and evolution working side by side. Natalie finally finds peace in balancing family and career. She has her baby and names him Michael, after her brother. Her relationship with Pete strengthens, and she continues supporting the restaurant but on her own terms. In the final scene, the kitchen is buzzing. Not chaos, but rhythm. Everyone is in sync. Carmy watches from the pass, not micromanaging but trusting. A quiet smile crosses his face. It’s not about perfection—it’s about finding family, purpose, and a reason to keep going. That’s The Bear ending I’d love to see real, honest, and hopeful with just enough mess to stay true to the heart of the show.
Love Island Fan Scholarship
Love Island Challenge: “Truth or Dare... with a Twist!”
As a dedicated Love Island fan, I’ve always loved watching the dramatic challenges that bring out the Islanders' personalities and expose some juicy secrets. That’s why I’ve created a brand new challenge called “Truth or Dare... with a Twist!” It combines classic party vibes with Love Island drama, team dynamics, and just the right amount of chaos.
Challenge Overview:
Islanders will be divided into two teams: Team Truth and Team Dare. Each round, a bottle is spun in the center of the firepit. The person it lands on must pull a card from the opposite team’s box meaning if you’re on Team Truth, you pull a Dare, and vice versa. The catch? Once the card is read aloud, the Islander gets 10 seconds to choose whether to complete the challenge or pass it on to someone else on their team. If they pass, the receiving teammate must do it no exceptions.
Truth Examples:
“Who do you think is the least genuine couple in the Villa?”
“Which Islander do you think is only here for a brand deal?”
“If you could recouple with anyone else in the Villa, who would it be?”
Dare Examples:
“Give someone a slow dance for 30 seconds... in silence.”
“Write a flirty poem for the Islander you think is the best kisser and read it aloud.”
“Let the opposite team style your hair and makeup for the rest of the evening.”
The Twist:
Each round, one “Wildcard Card” is hidden in each box. These are extreme dares or brutal truths that can flip the Villa on its head. Example:
Wildcard Truth – “Name the person in the Villa you trust the least and why.”
Wildcard Dare – “Text your ex (producer-approved!) and ask if they still think about you.”
Challenge Goals:
This game isn’t just for laughs it’s meant to test loyalty, honesty, and how well the couples really know (and trust) each other. By forcing Islanders to choose between protecting themselves or their team, we get to see who’s bold and who’s strategic. It’s also a perfect setup for confessions, chemistry checks, and even a few unexpected romantic sparks.
Added Bonus:
The winning team (based on completed challenges) gets a luxury breakfast date on the terrace the next morning while the losing team has to cook and serve it!
Why It Works for Love Island:
It’s messy, fun, emotional, and full of opportunities for Islanders to stir things up in the most entertaining way possible. Whether it leads to love triangles, surprise recoupling's, or unexpected truths, “Truth or Dare... with a Twist” would quickly become a fan-favorite moment in the season.
LeBron James Fan Scholarship
I’ve been a fan of LeBron James for as long as I can remember not just because of his incredible skill on the basketball court, but because of what he represents off the court. To me LeBron is more than an athlete. He’s a leader, a role model, and proof that success comes not just from talent, but from discipline, hard work, and purpose.
LeBron’s impact on the game is undeniable. His size, speed, and basketball IQ are unmatched. He’s a four-time NBA champion, a 20-time All-Star, and the league’s all-time leading scorer statistics that alone place him firmly in the conversation for the greatest of all time. But what makes him even more remarkable is his longevity. He’s not just playing into his late 30s; he’s still dominating. That kind of sustained excellence is rare in any sport.
But what truly makes me admire LeBron is his commitment to using his platform for good. As someone who’s passionate about community service and social impact, I respect how he created the I PROMISE School in Akron, Ohio to support at-risk youth. He’s shown that athletes can be more than entertainers they can be changemakers. He speaks out on issues like racial justice, education, and mental health, using his voice when it matters most. As someone pursuing a career in healthcare and community wellness, I’m inspired by how he turns success into service.
Now when it comes to the GOAT debate whether LeBron is the greatest basketball player of all time it depends on how you define greatest. If it’s about rings Michael Jordan still has more championships. But if greatness includes stats, consistency, leadership, and off-court impact, LeBron has a strong case. He has played longer at a high level, broken historical records, and adapted to every era of the game all while being a leader on and off the court.
Personally, I believe greatness should be measured by more than just titles. It should also include how you inspire others, how you give back, and how you carry yourself under pressure. In that sense, I do believe LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes not just in basketball but in sports history.
Being a fan of LeBron has taught me that greatness isn’t just about winning it’s about consistency, integrity, and what you do with your influence. That’s the kind of greatness I aspire to in my own life to pursue excellence in my career, give back to my community, and leave a legacy that’s about more than just personal success.
Women in STEM and Community Service Scholarship
As a future healthcare professional, I am deeply passionate about addressing two major issues that affect both my local community and the world at large access to mental health care and reasonable rehabilitation services. These issues are often overlooked yet they directly impact people’s quality of life especially in underserved areas. I envision using my education in physical therapy and sports medicine not only to treat physical injuries but also to become an advocate for integrated, community-based healthcare solutions that bridge the gap between mental and physical well-being.
Growing up as an athlete I witnessed how physical injuries can derail dreams but I also saw how mental health struggles often invisible could be even more devastating. That reality hit home for me in the most personal way when my uncle Billy died by suicide due to a long battle with addiction. He left behind two young children and a family still grieving a life cut short by untreated trauma. His death opened my eyes to the connection between physical pain, emotional suffering, and the lack of access to effective care. I knew then that I wanted to do more than just heal injuries I wanted to help heal people.
Locally many families in my community struggle to access affordable healthcare let alone mental health resources. For young athletes and students there’s pressure to perform but not enough guidance on how to take care of their bodies and minds. That’s why I want to specialize in sports rehabilitation and injury prevention working closely with schools, community centers, and local teams to provide education and services where they’re needed most.
Globally the difference in healthcare access is even more severe. Many developing communities lack trained professionals, basic equipment, or culturally sensitive mental health support. Through future outreach or medical mission programs I hope to use my skills to bring care to under resourced populations, while also empowering local leaders through education and collaboration.
My academic goal is to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy specializing in sports medicine and injury prevention research. As a woman entering the STEAM fields, I’m proud to bring both scientific curiosity and community centered compassion to my work. I believe women have a unique ability to lead with empathy and intelligence and I’m excited to join the next generation of female healthcare leaders who are breaking barriers and transforming systems.
Beyond clinical practice I plan to launch community workshops focused on injury prevention, mental health awareness, and wellness habits for youth. My goal is to create a model that can be adapted and scaled for schools and sports programs nationwide. I want every child especially those in marginalized or overlooked communities to feel seen, supported, and educated about their health.
The Women in STEAM and Community Scholarship would empower me to continue this journey. It would not only ease the financial challenges of my education but also validate the vision I have for combining science, compassion, and advocacy to build a healthier more equitable future for my community and beyond.
Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I’ve been a fan of Sabrina Carpenter for years not just because of her talent, but because of the way she carries herself with authenticity, growth, and strength. Watching her journey has been inspiring to me, both as a young woman finding her own voice and as someone who’s faced personal challenges that have shaped who I am today.
What first drew me to Sabrina was her role on Girl Meets World. She was relatable, funny, and emotionally real in a way that stood out to me as a teenager. But as I continued following her music career, I realized there was so much more to her than just her acting talent. Her songwriting, especially in more recent albums like emails I can’t send, opened up a deeper layer of who she is unfiltered, emotional, and brave. She writes about heartbreak, self-worth, anxiety, and growing up in the public eye in a way that feels incredibly vulnerable and honest.
One song that really hit me was Because I Liked a Boy. It showed the emotional toll of being misunderstood and unfairly judged something many young women can relate to including me. There have been times in my life when I felt like people only saw a version of me based on rumors or assumptions not who I really was. Sabrina’s music reminded me that it’s okay to speak your truth even when it’s hard. It made me feel less alone.
What I admire most about her is how she’s handled public criticism and personal setbacks with grace. She's been through the pressures of fame, internet speculation, and growing up in front of millions and yet she’s always found a way to turn pain into art. That inspires me to keep pushing forward in my own life even when things feel heavy.
As someone pursuing a career in healthcare particularly physical therapy and sports medicine I’ve learned the importance of resilience, emotional expression, and using your voice. Sabrina reminds me that strength doesn’t mean you have to be emotionless it means you feel things deeply and keep going anyway. She’s helped me be more confident in expressing myself, embracing the complex parts of who I am, and not letting other people define me.
Sabrina Carpenter isn’t just an artist I enjoy she’s someone who’s helped shape the way I see myself and my future. Her music is the soundtrack to some of the hardest and most transformative moments of my life. Through her vulnerability she’s given me permission to embrace mine.
Big Picture Scholarship
The movie that has had the greatest impact on my life is The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith. More than just a film it’s a story that speaks directly to the struggle of perseverance, self-belief, and the determination to rise above life’s toughest challenges. Watching this movie for the first time as a teenager changed the way I viewed hardship not as a dead end but as a test of resilience.
The film follows Chris Gardner a man facing homelessness while trying to provide a better future for his son. What moved me the most wasn’t just his financial hardship but the strength of his spirit. No matter how difficult life became sleeping in shelters, facing constant rejection, and barely getting by he refused to give up. His determination to push forward, fueled by love for his child and belief in a better life, made me reflect on my own struggles and dreams.
In many ways I saw parts of my own story reflected in his. While I’ve been fortunate to have the support of my family, I’ve also faced challenges that tested my strength. Losing my uncle Billy to suicide due to a drug overdose was one of the most painful moments in my life. It left behind unanswered questions, deep grief, and a reminder that not all battles are visible. Watching The Pursuit of Happyness helped me understand that while pain is unavoidable it doesn't have to define your future. You can carry loss and still rise.
The movie also shaped how I approach my academic and professional goals. Chris Gardner’s story reminded me that success isn’t always about talent it’s about persistence, sacrifice, and the belief that you are worthy of achieving something greater. I carry that lesson with me as I work toward becoming a physical therapist specializing in sports medicine. There are days when school is hard, when the pressure feels heavy, or when self-doubt creeps in but like Gardner I remind myself why I started. I want to help others heal. I want to make a difference in the lives of people who feel invisible, broken, or forgotten.
Another lesson from the movie that stuck with me is the importance of staying true to your values, no matter how hard life gets. Gardner didn’t lie or cheat to get ahead he remained honest and kind, even when the world wasn’t kind to him. That’s the kind of person I strive to be, both in my personal life and in my future career in healthcare.
The Pursuit of Happyness didn’t just inspire me it grounded me. It reminded me that greatness can come from struggle, that dreams are worth chasing even when the odds are stacked against you, and that believing in yourself is the most important first step. This movie gave me perspective, purpose, and the motivation to keep going even when life gets tough.

My academic and professional goals are rooted in a deep desire to serve others, support mental and physical wellness, and be a role model in my community, especially for youth who may not always have access to guidance or opportunity.
From a young age I’ve been fascinated by the human body’s ability to heal and adapt. My love for sports and physical activity sparked my interest in how athletes maintain performance and recover from injuries. This passion became deeply personal in high school when I suffered a knee injury that required months of physical therapy. The physical therapist who helped me recover didn’t just treat my injury he motivated me, taught me patience and discipline, and helped me believe in myself again. That experience inspired my career goal to become a sports medicine physical therapist who supports athletes not only physically but emotionally as well.
Beyond physical recovery I’ve come to see how deeply connected mental health is to physical wellness especially for athletes. My uncle Billy’s death by suicide, following years of struggling with addiction, opened my eyes to how important it is for healthcare professionals to treat the whole person. His passing left behind two young children and a family full of unanswered questions. It made me even more determined to build a career that not only helps people heal from injury but also creates space for conversations about mental health, trauma, and recovery.
My long-term academic goal is to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and specialize in sports rehabilitation and injury prevention. I want to work with youth athletes, particularly in underserved communities, to help them recover safely and build lifelong habits that support both physical and emotional well-being. I also hope to conduct community workshops on injury prevention and mental health in sports, ensuring athletes have the knowledge and resources they need to succeed.
Giving back has always been central to who I am. I’ve coached youth sports teams, mentored younger students interested in healthcare careers, and volunteered with local organizations focused on wellness and education. These experiences have been incredibly rewarding. They’ve taught me the importance of leadership, empathy, and consistent community presence. Being a mentor to others has reminded me that we all rise higher when we lift each other up.

"Finding Light After Loss"
My name is Jocelyn Garcia and I am writing to share my story as a suicide loss survivor in hopes of honoring my uncle’s memory and showing how grief has become a source of resilience and purpose in my life.
When my uncle Billy died by suicide through a drug overdose my world changed forever. He wasn’t just my uncle he was a source of warmth and joy in my life. We spent countless weekends fishing and our family vacations were always filled with laughter, jokes, and his larger-than-life personality. But behind the smile he wore so often Billy was fighting a private battle with addiction and depression one that eventually became too much for him to bear. His passing devastated our family and it left two young children without their father.
Losing Billy was heartbreaking but watching his children grow up without him has been even harder. They were too young to understand the complexities of mental health or addiction but they felt his absence deeply. I saw how grief touches every corner of life, how silence and shame can leave people isolated in their pain. For a long time, I carried guilt. I asked myself if there was something I missed, something more I could’ve done to help him even though I was so young. Those questions haunted me.
But healing I’ve learned doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from finding meaning in the loss and choosing to move forward with purpose. Over time I found the strength to stop asking why and started asking what now? What can I do to honor Billy? What can I do to support others in pain?
His loss has inspired me to speak out about mental health and the devastating effects of untreated depression and addiction. I’ve become passionate about mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and supporting others who feel invisible in their struggle. As I pursue a career in healthcare specifically in sports medicine and physical therapy I carry this passion with me. I believe healing must be holistic it must treat both the body and the mind. I want to be a healthcare provider who sees the whole person, who listens, and who never lets anyone feel like they’re fighting alone.
The Jean Ramirez Scholarship represents more than just financial support it represents hope, healing, and the power of turning pain into purpose. Like Jean’s story, Billy’s reminds us that even those who seem strong and happy can be hurting inside. This scholarship would help me carry their legacy forward by equipping me with the education and tools I need to make a difference in my community, in the healthcare field, and in the lives of people who need compassion the most.
I will always carry my uncle’s memory with me. And with the support of this scholarship I will continue turning grief into growth helping others heal, and showing that even after tragedy, hope is still possible.

Abran Arreola-Hernandez Latino Scholarship
One of the most transformative experiences in my life has been my involvement in children’s ministry and coaching youth sports. These volunteer roles have not only helped me give back to my community but also helped me discover my passion for helping others heal and grow both physically and emotionally. These experiences are what inspired me to pursue a career as a sports medicine physical therapist.
Volunteering in children’s ministry gave me early experience working closely with youth. I started by helping with activities and lessons but over time I took on leadership roles guiding children in their spiritual and personal development. I learned how important it is for young people to feel seen and supported. Many of the kids I worked with came from hardworking Latino families like mine and I saw how much it meant to parents to have a safe, positive environment for their children.
At the same time coaching youth sports opened my eyes to the physical challenges many young athletes face. I saw kids get injured sometimes scared that their season or even their future might be over. I watched how important recovery, encouragement, and proper care were to helping them return stronger. That’s what first sparked my interest in sports medicine. I realized that I didn’t just want to coach I wanted to help athletes heal, rebuild their confidence, and get back to doing what they love.
These experiences taught me that leadership isn’t always loud it can be quiet, consistent, and grounded in service. Whether it’s comforting a nervous child in Sunday school or helping a young athlete stretch after an injury, I’ve learned the value of patience, empathy, and presence. As a future physical therapist, I want to bring those same qualities into my practice especially in underserved communities where access to quality care can be limited.
Being Latino has shaped how I view community, family, and resilience. I’ve seen the strength of my culture reflected in the people I’ve served and in my own journey. As a first-generation college student from Fort Lauderdale, Florida I’m determined to be an example of what’s possible when we combine our roots with our dreams.
Receiving the Abran Arreola-Hernandez Latino Scholarship would help me take the next step toward my goals. This fall, I will be attending Ottawa University in Kansas to study Exercise Science as the foundation for my career in sports medicine and physical therapy. My ultimate goal is to support young athletes especially those in Latino and underserved communities so they can recover, thrive, and reach their full potential.
Heather Brown Sports Information Scholarship
My vision for a career in sports medicine and physical therapy is rooted in a deep desire to help athletes both professional and amateur recover from injuries and optimize their performance. I want to be the kind of professional who not only focuses on physical rehabilitation but also emphasizes injury prevention and mental resilience. As sports continue to evolve and athletes push the limits of their physical abilities the demand for knowledgeable and compassionate professionals who can guide them through their recovery process will only grow. My goal is to be part of this movement combining clinical expertise with a personal commitment to ensuring athletes can return to their full potential, both on and off the field.
In sports medicine the skills that are most important for success go beyond clinical knowledge. A deep understanding of the human body, biomechanics, and effective rehabilitation techniques is crucial, but so are communication skills, empathy, and the ability to develop trust with athletes. Athletes are often deeply invested in their performance, and injury recovery can be a frustrating and emotional process. Being able to listen to their concerns, clearly explain treatment plans, and provide reassurance and motivation is essential in building a positive relationship that leads to effective healing.
To succeed in this field, I believe the ability to adapt and stay current with advancements in rehabilitation methods, technology, and injury prevention is also vital. Sports medicine is a constantly evolving field, with new techniques, equipment, and research emerging regularly. I plan to stay ahead of the curve by actively pursuing continuing education opportunities, attending workshops, and collaborating with professionals who can offer insights into cutting-edge practices.
To develop the skills needed for success in sports medicine and physical therapy, I plan to focus on both formal education and practical experience. As a student, I will immerse myself in courses related to anatomy, kinesiology, sports injuries, and rehabilitation strategies. Hands-on experience will be crucial, and I’m eager to gain practical knowledge by working or volunteering in physical therapy clinics, sports teams, or rehabilitation centers. Shadowing experienced professionals and assisting with patient care will provide invaluable insights into the daily responsibilities of a sports medicine practitioner and help me develop the soft skills necessary to work with athletes effectively.
My previous experiences as an athlete have played a significant role in shaping my career aspirations. As someone who has been on the receiving end of physical therapy and rehabilitation, I understand the emotional and physical challenges athletes face when recovering from an injury. This personal experience allows me to empathize with patients and create a more compassionate, patient-centered approach to therapy. Whether it was recovering from a sprained ankle or a sports-related strain, I learned the importance of following through with rehabilitation, being patient with the process, and staying motivated even when progress feels slow.
My goal is to work in a setting that allows me to integrate both rehabilitation and performance optimization. Whether it's working with high school athletes, professional teams, or individuals seeking to return to daily activities, I plan to focus on creating individualized treatment plans that address not only the physical aspects of recovery but also the mental and emotional resilience required to overcome setbacks. With a strong foundation in both academic knowledge and real-world experience I am confident that I can excel in sports medicine and physical therapy and contribute meaningfully to the success and well-being of athletes.

My goal is to become a leader in the field of sports medicine and physical therapy and I believe that by earning this degree, I will be able to break barriers, expand my career opportunities, and ultimately inspire those who come after me to pursue their dreams without limitations.
Growing up I was always encouraged to work hard and do my best but I didn’t always see the path to higher education laid out in front of me. My parents are supportive but didn’t have the resources or guidance to navigate the college application process. As a result, I became determined to change that narrative for myself and for future generations of my family. By earning a college degree, I’m not just pursuing my own aspirations I’m paving the way for younger family members, showing them that education is a pathway to greater possibilities. I want them to see that the obstacles that once felt impossible are not permanent they can be overcome with dedication and the right opportunities.
Personally a college degree means much more than just a piece of paper. It’s a symbol of my commitment to my passion for sports medicine and physical therapy and the work I’ve already put in to get to this point. It represents the sacrifices I’ve made, the hurdles I’ve overcome, and the growth I’ve experienced. Achieving this goal will be a testament to my perseverance, resilience, and belief in my own potential. It will also serve as a tool for personal empowerment, giving me the knowledge and skills to positively impact others in a field I deeply care about.
I am passionate about helping others, particularly athletes, recover from injuries and maintain their physical well-being. I’ve always had a fascination with the human body, how it works, and how it can heal after being injured. My passion grew from my personal experiences as an athlete, where I witnessed firsthand the impact that physical therapy and rehabilitation can have on a person’s recovery. Seeing athletes push through setbacks and return to their sport stronger and more confident inspired me to pursue a career in sports medicine and physical therapy. It’s not just about healing the body it’s about restoring hope, confidence, and the belief that individuals can overcome challenges.
In the future, I plan to use my college degree to not only work as a physical therapist but also to give back to my community. It will provide me with the knowledge and skills I need to pursue my passion in sports medicine and physical therapy and help me become a positive force in my community and beyond.
Scorenavigator Financial Literacy Scholarship
Growing up I was always aware of the importance of money though I didn’t fully understand the difficulties of managing it until later in life. My family wasn’t wealthy and we often had to budget carefully to make ends meet. I remember my parents explaining the importance of saving, avoiding debt, and planning for the future. However, like many people I didn't have formal financial education in school and much of what I learned came from trial and error watching my parents navigate their own financial struggles and researching on my own. Through these experiences I began to understand how crucial it is to not only earn money but to manage it wisely.
One of the key lessons I learned early on was the importance of budgeting. As I became more independent, I started managing my own finances balancing the costs of daily living, paying for my car payment, and finding ways to invest in my future. I’ve worked part-time jobs throughout high school, which taught me how to balance work, school, and personal finances. Managing my own finances while sometimes overwhelming has given me a sense of responsibility and an understanding of how essential it is to be proactive about money whether it’s saving for emergencies or setting aside funds for future education or career goals.
As I pursue my education and career in sports medicine and physical therapy, I recognize that a strong foundation in financial literacy will be just as important as the knowledge I gain in the classroom. The field of sports medicine can be both rewarding and challenging especially in terms of long-term career growth. Physical therapists can earn a solid income but they also often have to manage their own practices, deal with fluctuating patient loads, and make decisions about insurance reimbursement, all of which require a solid understanding of financial concepts. I am particularly interested in learning how to manage finances within a clinical setting whether it’s a private practice, a rehabilitation center, or a sports medicine facility. Learning how to budget effectively, make smart investments in equipment and staff, and navigate the financial aspects of running a practice will allow me to succeed both professionally and personally.
Understanding finances will be essential as I think about long-term goals such as opening my own clinic or practice in the future. As a business owner, I will need to manage cash flow, plan for growth, and ensure that I can provide the best possible care to my patients while also sustaining a profitable business. Learning financial principles, such as how to calculate operating costs, manage loans, and invest in growth opportunities, will give me the tools I need to avoid common pitfalls and ensure that my business remains financially healthy.
I plan to use financial knowledge to make smarter personal decisions that will impact my future. This includes planning for retirement, saving for emergencies, and investing in further education. Sports medicine and physical therapy are fields that require continuous learning and professional development, and having a solid financial plan will ensure that I can afford ongoing education, certifications, and workshops throughout my career.
Financial education plays a pivotal role in achieving personal and professional success. By building on what I’ve learned from my own experiences and continuing to develop my financial literacy, I plan to not only better my future but also to ensure that I can provide quality care and operate effectively in my career in sports medicine and physical therapy.
Ben Bonner Memorial Scholarship
I have always been drawn to understanding the human body. This passion has led me to pursue a career in sports medicine and physical therapy a field that blends my love for athletics with my desire to help others live healthier more active lives. As an athlete myself I have experienced the frustrations and challenges that come with injury, recovery, and the mental toll that being sidelined can take. This firsthand experience has driven me to help others navigate their own recovery journey.
The human body is incredible its capable of remarkable accomplishments, but it is also vulnerable to injury. In sports medicine I am particularly fascinated by the science of rehabilitation how physical therapy can restore function, reduce pain, and help individuals return to their full potential. But what excites me the most is the opportunity to combine my scientific understanding of the body with a compassionate, personalized approach to care. Physical therapy isn’t just about treating an injury it’s about empowering individuals to trust their bodies again, providing them with the tools they need to heal, and helping them maintain a strong, active lifestyle long-term.
As a student I am eager to expand my knowledge of the biomechanics of movement, injury prevention, and rehabilitation techniques. But beyond the technical skills, I also want to develop my emotional intelligence and ability to connect with patients. I believe that healing is not just about physical recovery, but also about mental and emotional support. I want to be the kind of therapist who not only helps people regain their physical strength but also boosts their confidence and mental resilience during the rehabilitation process.
In the future I plan to give back to my community in a variety of ways. First, I hope to work in a setting that provides care for underserved populations where people may not have the same access to healthcare or physical therapy resources. Many young athletes particularly those from lower-income backgrounds, face obstacles such as financial barriers to receiving the treatment they need. I want to help bridge that gap by working in clinics or outreach programs that provide affordable or free services to those who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
I am passionate about advocating for injury prevention and health education. Many athletes don’t receive enough guidance on how to prevent injuries, the importance of proper nutrition, or how to care for their bodies outside of practice. I plan to partner with schools and sports organizations to develop workshops or clinics focused on physical health, injury prevention, and building strong habits for both young athletes and their coaches. Educating athletes about the importance of recovery, flexibility, and strength training at an early age can help them avoid long-term injuries and develop habits that support a lifetime of healthy activity.
My passion for sports medicine and physical therapy is driven by a desire to help people not only recover from injuries but also lead healthier, more active lives. Through education, outreach, and advocacy, I plan to give back to my community by ensuring that all individuals, regardless of background or financial status, have access to the care they need to thrive.
Churchill Family Positive Change Scholarship
I am passionate about pursuing a degree in sports medicine and physical therapy because I believe it will provide me with the tools to make a lasting positive impact on individuals in sports communities. As an athlete, I’ve seen firsthand how injuries can deeply affect both the body and mind. Whether it's a torn ligament, a sprained ankle, or a repetitive stress injury, the road to recovery can feel daunting and isolating. Through proper treatment, care, and support, people can return to the activities they love, often with an even greater appreciation for their bodies and their capabilities. My experiences both as an athlete and as someone who has dealt with injuries have inspired me to dedicate my education to helping others regain their strength and well-being through sports medicine and physical therapy.
Through further education in sports medicine, I plan to gain a deep understanding of the musculoskeletal system, rehabilitation techniques, and preventative care. With these skills I hope to not only assist in healing but also to help athletes of all ages and levels avoid injuries in the first place. Injury prevention is an area I feel particularly passionate about as it’s often overlooked yet plays a critical role in keeping athletes in the game for longer periods. I am excited to learn how biomechanics, exercise physiology, and rehabilitation strategies intersect to keep people healthy and performing at their best.
Beyond the technical aspects of sports medicine, I know that this field requires empathy and a personalized approach to care. Athletes face immense pressure to perform at their peak, which can lead to mental and emotional challenges during the recovery process. As someone who has experienced the highs and lows of sports, I want to help individuals not just physically, but also emotionally, as they navigate the rehabilitation process. I want to be a resource for athletes who may feel frustrated, discouraged, or uncertain about their recovery, offering them the guidance and motivation they need to persevere.
In addition to working with athletes on a one-on-one basis, I envision myself using my education to advocate for improved access to sports therapy and rehabilitation programs in underserved communities. Many young athletes especially those from lower-income backgrounds lack access to proper medical care or physical therapy, which can delay recovery and even lead to permanent setbacks. By working in community outreach programs or volunteering in clinics that provide affordable services, I hope to address these disparities and make rehabilitation more accessible to those who need it most.
My goal is to use my education to bridge the gap between physical recovery and overall well-being. I want to contribute to a holistic approach to sports therapy, one that incorporates mental health, emotional support, and preventative care. I envision working in both clinical settings and community outreach programs, using my knowledge to promote long-term health and wellness in the athletic community. Whether it's assisting in the recovery of professional athletes or supporting youth programs, I believe that sports medicine and physical therapy are powerful tools that can not only heal but also transform lives.
Young Women in STEM Scholarship
1. Please tell us a bit about yourself and what specifically motivates you. If you could do anything with your life, what do you imagine you’d do?
I am a student-athlete who has learned to thrive at the intersection of discipline, perseverance, and passion. Growing up, I was always drawn to sports soccer and flag football became more than games for me they were spaces where I discovered my strength, challenged stereotypes, and built confidence. Balancing athletics with academics and family responsibilities has shaped my character. I’ve learned how to lead with purpose, how to work through setbacks, and how to advocate for myself in environments where female voices are sometimes overlooked. What motivates me most is impact not just personal success, but making a difference for others. Whether it’s mentoring younger athletes, advocating for girls in sports, or pushing myself to be better every day, I find energy in knowing that my actions can uplift others. I’m driven by the idea that excellence isn’t just about talent it’s about showing up, putting in the work, and believing you belong. If I could do anything with my life I would pursue a career in sports medicine as a physical therapist. This path excites me because it allows me to combine my passion for physical health with my desire to make a positive impact on others. Through this career, I hope to help people recover from injuries and improve their overall wellbeing. But beyond just the physical aspect I am especially interested in addressing the mental health challenges that often accompany physical recovery. I want to create a space where both the body and mind are healed, providing holistic care that inspires hope, confidence, and resilience in my patients.
2. What excites you about STEM? How do you feel you could make a positive impact on the world through a job in information technology?
The thing that excites me most about STEM is the endless potential for innovation and the ability to solve complex, real-world problems. Science, technology, engineering, and math have the power to transform the way we live, work, and interact with the world. The constant evolution of new technologies and discoveries presents an opportunity to contribute to progress in meaningful ways, and I find that incredibly motivating.
Though I am particularly interested in information technology, I believe that STEM offers the perfect environment to explore creative and practical solutions to problems. IT, in particular, can revolutionize industries by improving efficiency, accessibility, and security. The growing reliance on technology in everyday life makes the field even more critical and the idea of being able to contribute to this ever-evolving sector excites me.
I feel that I could make a positive impact in the world through information technology by focusing on creating systems and solutions that are both inclusive and efficient. Whether it’s improving healthcare accessibility through telemedicine, developing user-friendly software to help those with disabilities, or innovating in cybersecurity to protect individuals and organizations, IT offers a vast array of opportunities to make a meaningful difference. I am particularly interested in creating technologies that serve underrepresented communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in our increasingly digital world.
3. Please describe the greatest challenge you’ve had to overcome and how you managed to get past it.
The greatest challenge I’ve had to overcome in my life has been battling severe anxiety. As a child, my anxiety was so intense that I could not sleep anywhere other than my parents' bed, and simple activities like going to school or socializing felt overwhelming. This constant feeling of fear and unease kept me from fully engaging with life and reaching my potential.
However, with the support of my family and a commitment to my own well-being, I took steps to confront and manage my anxiety. I started therapy, where I learned essential coping strategies like mindfulness and breathing exercises. Slowly, I became more aware of my triggers and developed the tools to navigate them. Additionally, I focused on building my self-esteem and finding ways to engage in activities that brought me joy, such as sports and creative outlets. Over time, I became more resilient, learning that anxiety doesn’t define who I am and that I can live a fulfilling life despite it. This experience not only shaped my character but also fueled my passion for helping others who struggle with mental health issues. I now actively support others facing similar challenges whether through peer support programs or offering a listening ear to those in need. Overcoming my anxiety has empowered me to embrace my future with confidence knowing that I can face whatever challenges come my way.
Female Athleticism Scholarship
I grew up as a multi-sport athlete I’ve often found myself navigating two fields at once the literal one beneath my cleats and the broader field of gender expectations in sports. Participating in soccer and flag football while balancing school and personal responsibilities has not only shaped me into a more disciplined student and athlete, but also a stronger female voice in male dominated spaces.
Soccer came naturally to me it offered a structured environment where I could learn teamwork, endurance, and mental grit. But when I decided to play flag football a sport still seen by many as a boy sport, I entered a whole new level of challenge. I had to prove myself constantly not just as a player but as a female athlete capable of holding her own in a space not traditionally designed for her. Every time I stepped onto the field, I knew I wasn’t just playing a game I was breaking barriers and changing perceptions even if only one play at a time.
Balancing two sports with academic life hasn’t been easy, but it has been deeply rewarding. I've had to learn how to manage my time, push through fatigue, and stay committed to both my goals and my values. There were times I’d come home exhausted from practice only to dive straight into studying for a big test or finishing a project. Those moments taught me resilience the kind that doesn’t just help in games or exams but in life. I’m proud to say I’ve maintained strong grades while remaining a leader on my teams.
Outside of school and athletics I’ve worked hard to be a role model for younger girls in my community. I mentor new players, lead by example during practices, and encourage my teammates to use their voices both on and off the field. I believe in creating space for other young women to thrive in sports without having to justify their place. If I can help just one girl feel seen, strong, or inspired to keep playing, then I know I’m doing more than winning games I’m creating change.
Being a female athlete isn’t just about competing it’s about overcoming. It’s about showing strength in every sprint, every study session, and every time you’re told that you can’t and proving that you can. My journey through soccer, flag football, and academics has prepared me to take on future challenges with confidence, integrity, and purpose.
Receiving this scholarship would not only help me pursue my academic and athletic dreams, but also continue my mission of representing and uplifting young women in sports. I am determined to be part of a generation that doesn’t just participate but leads and redefines what female athleticism truly means.
Rick Levin Memorial Scholarship
Being a student in the Special Education program has profoundly impacted my life, inspiring me to pursue both college and certification training in a field where I can continue to make a difference in the lives of others. Through my experiences working with individuals who face various challenges I have learned invaluable lessons about perseverance, empathy, and the importance of individualized support. These lessons have shaped my aspirations and fueled my determination to pursue higher education to further my ability to help others, particularly those with physical and mental health challenges.
As a Special Education student, I have worked with children and young adults with a wide range of disabilities and learning differences from intellectual impairments to emotional and behavioral challenges. One of the most significant realizations from this experience has been understanding the diverse ways in which people learn and interact with the world. In a traditional classroom setting students are often expected to follow a uniform path of learning but this approach doesn’t work for everyone. Through Special Education I have seen firsthand how customized support can help students unlock their full potential. These experiences inspired me to pursue a career where I can continue this work whether through physical therapy, counseling, or another form of healing support.
The more I learned about the diverse needs of students in Special Education the more I was driven to further my education in a field that could provide a similar level of personalized care for individuals. My time in the program taught me the significance of resilience not just in overcoming academic or physical challenges but in the development of emotional and mental strength. I began to realize that the tools used to support students with disabilities could extend beyond the classroom. I could combine my passion for mental health, physical wellbeing, and personalized support to help individuals recover, grow, and thrive whether that meant physical rehabilitation or assisting with mental health challenges.
Special Education instilled in me a deep understanding of the importance of emotional wellbeing in education and personal development. Students in the program face unique challenges that require patience, understanding, and creativity in order to create a learning environment where they feel safe, supported, and capable. This has driven me to pursue college and certification programs that focus not just on physical health but also on the emotional and mental aspects of recovery and growth. By becoming a certified specialist in physical therapy or sports medicine I hope to apply what I’ve learned in Special Education to assist individuals in their own journeys of recovery, blending both physical and mental health strategies to provide comprehensive care.
This personal experience with anxiety profoundly shaped my perspective on the importance of mental health and the need for comprehensive support systems. It also fueled my desire to pursue a career where I could help others navigate their own challenges both physical and emotional. I know firsthand the power of having the right support system in place, and I am passionate about providing that support to others who may be struggling with anxiety, trauma, or physical setbacks.
My struggles with anxiety have not only motivated me to pursue higher education but have also reinforced the importance of resilience and empathy. The experience taught me how to face adversity head on and it made me deeply empathetic to those who face similar struggles whether physical or mental. These lessons have made me determined to work in a field where I can directly impact the lives of others, helping them overcome their own challenges in a meaningful and compassionate way.
In conclusion, my time as a student in the Special Education program has been a catalyst for my decision to pursue higher education and certification training. It has reinforced my desire to help individuals navigate their personal challenges, particularly when those challenges affect their physical and mental wellbeing. My personal struggles with anxiety have shaped my understanding of the importance of mental health in the healing process and have given me the strength to pursue a career where I can offer support to others. Whether through physical therapy, sports medicine, or counseling, I hope to use the lessons I’ve learned in both Special Education and my own life to provide the comprehensive, empathetic care that individuals need to thrive in every aspect of their lives.

Success Beyond Borders
Title: "Resilience in Motion"
Opening Scene:
The screen fades in from black to a quiet dimly lit bedroom. A young child, around 8 years old is curled up in bed with eyes wide open just staring at the ceiling. The sound of a ticking clock fills the room accompanied by the faint sound of heavy breathing. It's a late night and the child overwhelmed by anxiety is unable to sleep. The camera zooms in on the child’s face showing a mix of fear, exhaustion, and a yearning for peace. As the camera pans out, we see the child’s parents standing in the doorway their faces full of concern but offering no words. The room feels too big, too isolating, and despite the love in the house the child feels totally alone in their struggles.
Cut to the sound of footsteps on the hardwood floor soft but purposeful. The child’s mother enters the room sitting gently on the edge of the bed. She reaches out placing a hand on the child’s shoulder. The camera focuses on her face full of compassion and then shifts to the child’s face where a single tear escapes their eye. But then the mother softly whispers “We’ll get through this together.”
The scene shifts transitioning from night to day with the first light of morning creeping through the blinds. The camera slowly pulls away from the bed as the child still in the same room begins to show small signs of change. They start to breathe deeply slowly. The mother's voice fades into the background as we hear a faint mantra she once taught "One breath at a time." As the light grows brighter, we see the child in therapy practicing breathing exercises. Then the scene cuts to a series of moments where the child starts to regain control sitting with their parents at the kitchen table, smiling during a family outing, speaking up in a school setting, participating in sports for the first time with growing confidence.
The scene shifts again this time to a high school flag football field. The camera pans over a young teenager sitting on the sidelines lacing up a pair of worn cleats. The teen stands up walking to the side of the field. The field is filled with sounds of fans shouting and coaches shouting instructions. The teen hesitates for a moment then jogs toward the flag football team stepping onto the field with a newfound purpose. Their eyes are focused their posture confident. The camera zooms in on their face which now carries a sense of determination.
In this moment the audience can see the journey of overcoming personal struggles manifesting into resilience. The teen is no longer held back by anxiety but is instead empowered by it. The final scene shows the teen on the sidelines of a sports event wearing a physical therapist’s jacket offering advice and support to injured players. Their eyes are no longer filled with fear but with the certainty of someone who knows firsthand the power of recovery both physical and mental.
The camera pans out, capturing the teen’s satisfied expression the field busy with activity and a understanding yet powerful message the journey from struggle to strength is not direct but filled with moments of growth, compassion, and perseverance.
The opening scene of "Resilience in Motion" reflects my journey from childhood anxiety to my aspiration of becoming a sports medicine physical therapist. It illustrates the essential moments that defined who I am today the struggles I overcame, the support I received, and my unwavering belief in resilience. As I move forward I aim to help others recover from their own setbacks both physical and mental with the same perseverance and empathy that guided me through my own challenges.
Ronald and Betty Thomas Educational Scholarship
For me one of the most significant obstacles I’ve faced was battling severe anxiety as a child. This
condition taught me resilience, determination, and the importance of mental health. As I grew older I
found ways to manage my anxiety but the struggles of my younger years have profoundly influenced
my approach to life and they are a driving force behind my aspiration to become a sports medicine
physical therapist.
Overcoming adversity is often an essential part of shaping one's character and setting the foundation for future success. When I was younger my anxiety was so overwhelming that I could not sleep anywhere except in my parents' bed. The simple act of being away from the comforting presence of my parents would trigger intense feelings of fear and panic. These feelings weren't limited to sleep either they filled many aspects of my childhood making it difficult to participate in social events, school activities, or even sleepovers at anyone’s house including family. I vividly remember feeling isolated believing that no one truly understood the struggles I was going through. My parents were incredibly supportive and strategies to manage my anxiety. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, breathing exercises, and mindfulness techniques became my tools for coping helping me build the resilience needed to face my fears and slowly reclaim control over my life.
As I continued to grow, I began to channel my experiences into empathy for others. This shift in perspective led me to discover my passion for sports medicine specifically physical therapy. I became fascinated with the way the body heals and the critical role mental health plays in the recovery process. While physical therapy addresses physical injuries, I’ve learned that mental health is equally important especially for athletes facing injuries or recovery. The empathy I developed through my struggles with anxiety gives me the ability to connect with patients on a deeper level understanding their mental challenges alongside their physical ones. My goal of becoming a sports medicine physical therapist is rooted in my desire to help people recover and regain control over their lives just as I had to do during my struggle with anxiety. By working with athletes I hope to provide not just physical recovery but also emotional and psychological support recognizing the interconnectedness of mind and body in the healing process.
I aspire to use my personal experience with mental health to better serve my future patients helping them overcome their own struggles with resilience and determination. Attending Ottawa University and pursuing my degree in sports medicine will give me the necessary education and hands-on experience to fulfill this career goal. The financial aspect of college is a significant concern for me. A scholarship would alleviate some of this burden allowing me to focus more on my studies and clinical practice rather than worrying about how to finance my education.
With the support of this scholarship, I can fully dedicate myself to my coursework, gain invaluable experience in the field, and ultimately become a skilled and compassionate sports medicine physical therapist. It will bring me one step closer to making a positive impact on the lives of others just as overcoming my own adversity has shaped my path forward. The adversity I faced with anxiety has been a defining challenge in my life. It has not only shaped my character but also sparked my passion for sports medicine physical therapy. The Ronal and Betty Thomas Scholarship I am applying for will provide the financial support I need to pursue my dreams and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I will serve in the future.
