The Dream of A 3-Year-Old Me
At the age of 3, children begin to truly adjust to the world around them and transition from babyhood to childhood. Learning how to share, developing social awareness, and imagining are highlights of this human growth stage. In reflection, social interaction was one of the dynamic skills I enjoyed most at this time, which led to frequent playdates at cousins’ homes. Together, we created theatrical plays with our dolls, wore princess dresses, hosted singing competitions, and made adorable dance routines to perform at family gatherings. My favorite pastime at home was brainstorming on activities we could do next playdate. One night, I had a dream! Over time, my drive and commitment helped manifest my childhood dream into a vision, then a practical plan.
My dream was to establish a club where young girls from all ages and backgrounds can interact, embark on fun adventures, grow intellectually, and reach new heights with one another’s support. This wish fulfilling image inspired me and exuded my passion for the youth. The children are the future and they deserve a chance to live their dreams. The actualization of my dream became my biggest ambition in life. I stopped at nothing to achieve it. From the ages of 5-8, my sister and I performed at local talent shows, networked with DJs, and girls from our community to arrange interviews and meetups. We generated a personal brand and an organic community on social media, amassing over 4000 young followers through posting vlogs, tutorials, clothing hauls, and energetic dance routines. This experience provided me with my initial exposure to marketing to a youthful demographic.
Years 10-14 provided the opportunity to solidify a practical strategy regarding my aspiring vision, with the first task being to enhance my public presence. However, in the words of Frederick Douglass, “Without struggle, there is no progress!” With the 2020 pandemic, my vision became a “dream deferred.” Though my business plans suffered, stay-at-home orders bolstered my academic prowess and online algorithm research.
Another adversity encountered during my journey was managing multiple goals: music entertainment success and maintaining academic excellence. During summer 2023, I solely focused on being a recording artist. We officially established JMC PRINCESS LLC, commercially releasing a song and music video. Our mission statement is to utilize youthful talent, unique clothing designs, catchy tunes, and loveable content to build notoriety in the community. Releasing a visual for the ambitious vision I’ve had since young has been my greatest achievement to date. Utilizing my at-home support team, previous marketing insight, and God’s grace, our music video reached over 265,000 people. This engagement jump-started an ever-growing fanbase and inspired little girls nationwide as well as empowered me to continue to strive in my career path and achieve my goals. This endeavor required a considerable investment of time and energy. When back-to-school season arrived, my struggle was transitioning my focus from my entertainment career to academics. This increased my stress level and decreased my performance in both endeavors. Prioritizing my goals and developing the discipline to focus on quality output in one goal led me to achieve success at both. The culmination of that school year: receiving an award for academic excellence while being paid for a musical performance at the awards ceremony.
With my hard work, drive, and determination thus far, my 3-year-old self would rightfully say that I’m on the way to actualizing the dream envisioned all those years ago. My business is now one step closer to my ultimate passion project: the GIRLS CLUB INITIATIVE—a girl empowerment nonprofit. This initiative encourages girls to work hard and play harder by providing an outlet where the future generation of women can discuss their lifestyles and interests, tutor in schoolwork, share new skills, and take group trips. In the future, with the help of my business team, your scholarship, and the networks that I build in college, I hope to create innovative ways to curtail the rising issue of child trafficking. Overall, my vision is to continue the business aspect of my life but also help better the future, the children, to make the 3-year-old me proud.
Desiree Jeana Wapples Scholarship for Young Women
Currently a senior in Henrico Virtual Academy, I am expected to graduate in May 2025 with my advanced diploma. I have taken a crucial role in building my school’s positive reputation. In academics, my consistent A honor roll, 4.29 unweighted GPA, ranking of number 1 in my senior class, (2) 4s on my AP exams, and SAT score of a 1350 speaks for itself. Along with representing myself well in this area, I have also helped further other students' educational goals and the community around me through peer tutoring, becoming a student guide for new virtual students, and volunteering with nonprofits at soup kitchens during the summer. These are some of the academic awards I have received: a JA-in-a-day excellence certificate (excellent financial literacy acknowledgement), National Honors Society and National Society of High School Scholars membership, and most recently, the Martin Luther King Jr. Lights of Hope Award in 2025 for future leaders.
JMC PRINCESS LLC (my company) is a girl empowerment business, established in 2023, that has the mission to inspire future women to achieve their dreams through catchy tunes, timeless clothing, positive content, and youthful role models. Along with managing, I am also chief editor, songwriter, website developer, marketing manager, graphic designer, and entertainer for this business. In 2023, along with its establishment, my music group JMC PRINCESS released a single and music video that reached over 265k views solely on the platform YouTube. The engagement and feedback that I received in this endeavor jump-started an ever-growing fanbase and inspired little girls nationwide. Recently, JMC PRINCESS was asked to perform at the nonprofit Old Harbor and Friends Association’s 31st Memorial ball as paid performers and Richmond’s Juneteenth Celebration.
With my hard work, drive, and determination, my business is one step closer to my ultimate passion project: the GIRLS CLUB INITIATIVE—a girl empowerment nonprofit. One person who has had a positive impact on my life has been my great grandmother. Elders are the most neglected age group in society. Helping assist my father in caring for her is my small contribution to combat this societal issue and return the favor for her caring for me. In the past, my grandmother has cared for three generations. She ensured all of her children were in a loving environment, fed correctly, and properly educated. She now has dementia, so my father has taken on the responsibility of being her personal caretaker. On the daily, I assist her with “extensive chores” (we think so), picking up on her southern dialect and wise stories. As her therapy, we often go on shopping sprees at the grocery store to see some familiar faces and cook together. These experiences have built character within me and taught me valuable traits like humility, compassion, and patience for others: qualities that are needed to succeed in life.

The Dream of A 3-Year-Old Me
My main goal in life has been to positively impact the youth through my business endeavors and community service. Since the age of 3, I’ve had the dream of establishing a club where young girls from all ages and backgrounds can interact, embark on fun adventures, grow intellectually, and reach new heights with one another’s support. Over time, my drive and commitment helped manifest my childhood dream into a vision, then a practical plan. This experience provided me with my initial exposure to marketing to a youthful demographic. At the tender age of 9 while living in an underserved community, I was running to catch the ice cream truck for my daily dose of sugar and was almost kidnapped. This traumatic experience helped me become more aware of my surroundings. It also fueled my passion to stop these occurrences from affecting other children.
Years 10-14 provided the opportunity to solidify a practical strategy regarding my aspiring vision, with the first task being to enhance my public presence. Contagious Energy
The attitudes and energy people put forth are contagious. For example, if a business team is working on a marketing campaign and a team member has a lackadaisical approach toward the creation of the plan, the team’s proposal is bound to be negatively affected by this individual’s laissez-faire attitude. Alternatively, if every participant on the team approaches this project with an enthusiastic attitude, the team’s campaign outcome will improve. With that said, I strive to exude an optimistic attitude and a magnetic energy in any setting or circumstance, including in college. Whether in the area of academics or business, my contagious energy instills positivity in my peers, reinforcing future success in achieving their goals as well as mine.
During my Junior year, student mid-term rough draft essays were due and my AP English teacher assigned everyone a peer review. In the midst of the evaluation of my peer’s work, I couldn’t help but notice that her essay seemed somewhat rushed and showed clear signs of narrative laziness; things that could be adjusted to better her final grade. I volunteered to assist in her last draft. At first, she felt discouraged due to the confusion of the essay prompt and wanted to know how to properly structure her essay. Once I clarified the confusing prompt, walked her through an outline, and gave some helpful insight, her energy shifted. She began to express a more optimistic attitude towards completing a comprehensive final draft. Not only did this experience improve my peer’s writing skills, but also mine. Assisting in the editing of the essay, I ameliorated my English composition and problem-solving abilities. In the end, her final draft received an A+ and she became a new, inspired writer.
Utilizing a similar approach in the field of business, I have aided in the establishment and promotion of small businesses. JMC PRINCESS LLC (my company) utilizes young talent, unique clothing designs, catchy tunes, and amazing content to build its notoriety amongst the community in order to inspire and influence young girls to express their God-given abilities. Utilizing my at-home support team, previous marketing insight, and God’s grace, our music video "GIRLS CLUB" reached over 265,000 people. In the year 2023, one of the little girls who saw my music group perform and sell merchandise felt inspired by our salesmanship to the point where she decided to start her own bracelet business. To further her reach, Her parents contacted us personally to assist in creating a social media account and possibly collaborating with our brand on accessories to differentiate her bracelets from others. Ultimately, this network had secured further traffic. Throughout my time in business, school, and life, my positive contagious energy contributes to building positive communities.

Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Faith-Based Foundation & Nurturing Environment
Family is one of the first and most impactful communities a person belongs to. A family’s nurture can impact many factors in a person’s life, including their cognitive intelligence and personality. For instance, an individual growing up in a highly nurturing household is more likely to have higher cognitive abilities and a positive outlook on life. Through their faith-based foundation and nurturing environment, my family has instilled wisdom and an optimistic outlook on life that has fostered my mental, emotional, and spiritual growth.
Through my family’s constant emphasis on the importance of keeping God as the center of my life, with routine Church visits, group prayers, and Bible discussion, I have managed to develop a God-centered mindset that has assisted me throughout my life. Early in my time in virtual learning, staying within the dimensions of my computer screen bothered many outsiders, due to me not being in the conventional high school setting. At first, I adopted their beliefs about my decision, due to “the fear of missing out.” Thankfully, soon after, during my family Bible study, my parents read me a verse, Philippians 4:6-7, that changed my perspective on my choice. I had to block out all the noise, realize that God has a divine plan that is unique to me, and make the best out of every situation. I focused on my education and bettering my plan for success, managing to achieve A’s all year and developing a solid marketing strategy for my business (JMC PRINCESS LLC). Our mission statement is to utilize youthful talent, unique clothing designs, catchy tunes, and loveable content to build notoriety in the community. Utilizing my at-home support team, previous marketing insight, and God’s grace, our music video reached over 265,000 people. This engagement jump-started an ever-growing fanbase and inspired little girls nationwide.
My positive outlook on life is mainly credited to a nurturing upbringing. Growing up, my parents always provided an environment where the children’s needs were put first. My siblings and I were often able to express ourselves without feeling unheard. Our caregivers would frequently invest in any inch of skill they saw in us. Our nutrition was always prioritized. Though there were times when we were disciplined due to misbehavior, their authoritative nurturing solidified their love for us. My family’s Godly, nurturing foundation trickled down, being most responsible for my wisdom, decisions, career path and perceptiveness in life. I hope to honor their time and commitment to me by taking my business to the next level, partnering with my future non-profit organization: the GIRLS CLUB INITIATIVE. This initiative will encourage girls to work hard and play harder by providing an outlet where the future generation of women can discuss their lifestyles and interests, tutor in schoolwork, share new skills, and take group trips. With the help of my business team and the networks that I build in college, I hope to create innovative ways to curtail the rising issue of child trafficking through this startup as well.
