My name is Jonathan Lara and Growing up, I always dreamed of furthering my education at a young age. I attended Jeff Davis Primary school and during my time as a student, I enjoyed reading at a young age and would take the Scholastic Reading Counts quiz over the books I read. Till this day, I look back to my past and see how of a student I was and telling myself "I can't wait to grow up" and realizing that time has flew by drastically. Over the years, I became a student who enjoyed reading and being challenged till this point in time. Once I reached the fourth grade, I had a teacher who doubted my success and told me that I wouldn't make it far as a student because of my race. I then at that moment told myself "I can do it, just wait and see" and I pushed myself to the very limit. Moreover, I remember her name and what she said to me, and I always remind myself that "I proved you wrong and I'm here after all the hard work." Nevertheless, I use that to always push myself and to always believe in myself that "I can do it." When it gets tough, I always stand up to the challenge and be well prepared for what's about to come. It's not about how hard the challenge it, but it's if you're willing to step up and face those challenges yourself. I always believed that it's possible as long as your set that positive mindset and you're willing to pursue your dreams. Also, I want to accomplish my degree and finish what my parents couldn't do during their time growing up. Moreover, my parents always informed me that they would always support me until the day I graduate. Although, we struggle in financially and barley had enough to cover my college expenses of Fall 2022 at Valdosta State University. However, my dad would work extra hours in his job just so that I could continue my studies as a college student. In conclusion, I will always be forever thankful to my dad for supporting along my journey and will always believe that there is hope. I will always continue from the start and will pursue this degree for myself, my family, and my younger self. Therefore, I will continue this journey that I set myself as a young child and will make those proud of my hard work and accomplishments.
