Bio

Hello, my name is Jireh. I am currently a student at Randolph College, pursuing a biology major with a chemistry minor. At Randolph, I am working as an IT Admissions Assistance. I believe that I will be a great candidate for your scholarship. Recently diagnosed with Lupus, I want to show that nothing can stop me from attending college and receiving an education. I am working hard to accomplish all the goals I have set for myself. Besides, working to achieve everything that I have set, I am doing this to make my parents proud. As a daughter of parents who are immigrants, I intend to make a difference. I will show other children of parents that are immigrants as well as my family when you push yourself you shall succeed. Thank you for viewing my profile.

When I was born, I was born as healthy as can be. My parents and I were ready for me to go off to college. One day, I wasn’t able to open my mouth. The right side of my face was super hard, which was making it difficult for me to use my mouth. When we went to the hospital, we were hoping that they would figure out what’s wrong with me the same day. I was stuck in the hospital for a week. During my stay at the hospital, I saw a lot of doctors, and they all did not know what was wrong with me. All my doctors were stuck on what they needed to do, to diagnose me. Some of the doctors were saying I needed to have surgery on my face, and other doctors were saying to do a biopsy because it was safer for someone my age. They all eventually agreed on doing a biopsy. A biopsy is where they use a device that takes a deep tissue sample of the infected area, and send it to a lab to be tested. They proceeded with doing the biopsy on my face and sent my sample to the lab. It took a few days but eventually, my results came back. Unfortunately, on June 20, 2020, I was diagnosed with lupus. It was a shook for me and my parents. I did everything I could to stay healthy, but that shows you how life can be unpredictable! My doctor told me, that there was nothing I could do to prevent this from happening. Even tho my doctor told me this, I cried for days blaming myself. My parents did their best to comfort me, but it didn’t help. My parents were not financially prepared for this situation, because as far as they were concerned, they had two healthy kids. They were not ready for my medical bills, my doctor appointments, or the cost of my medication. They never expected us to be sick, especially me, considering that I’m the oldest. I’m learning to cope with my lupus, one day at a time. I’m not letting lupus affect my future! I will accomplish every goal that I have planned for myself. In life everything is not easy, this is just another obstacle that I will overcome! I will be attending college to receive a biology degree to assist and ameliorate the future of others! A biology degree gives you more of an insight into the human body, and how it functions. Considering that I want to go into the medical field, understanding the human body, will be a tremendous help. After I receive my biology degree, the first four years after college I will be attending medical school. I decided to go the medical route because I will be helping others to live a healthier lifestyle. I know that medical school is not going to be easy and that it will be a challenge. Medical school will help me become one step closer to changing the lives of others. After medical school, I will be in my first year of residency! I can’t wait to use the knowledge that I obtained in medical school and apply it to my first residency year. When in my residency, I will be learning a little bit about each field. I have decided that I want to become an anesthesiologist. The reason I chose to become an anesthesiologist, is because even though the other doctors are doing surgery to help save the patient's life, and anesthesiologists job is super important. An anesthesiologist is responsible for making sure that the patient is sleeping properly, so they are able to receive the surgery needed to help them with the malady that they have! In order to accomplish all the things that I discussed above, I will have to take one day at a time. By obtaining a proper method that will help me focus and study the materials needed, I can receive the grades that are necessary to accomplish all the goals that I have planned. If everything in life was easy, then everyone will be a doctor! I know that I will do everything that is required to become the successful person that I envision for myself!
