Bio

My biggest goal in life is to become a veterinarian. I grew up around animals all my life and I have a deep passion for veterinary medicine. I work hard for what I want even if the task seems daunting. Coming from a low income household, money has always been a topic of conversation. I want to have a chance at pursuing my education debt free so that not only can I support myself and my future children but, my family as well.

Team Crosby Forever Veterinary Medicine Scholarship
When I was about eight years old, I became best friends with a dairy cow called with the number 7224 attached to her ear. Every day after school, I would take a stroll out to the dairy located nearby to find her. She would greet me with a loud bellow and then proceed to lick my hand whenever I got close. However, one day she was nowhere to be seen. I remember hearing a cow in distress and their pitch was somewhat similar to 7224. Well, it turns out that she was calving and seemed to be struggling. Something took over my mind and I ran inside the pen to be by her side. Surrounded by her fellow cows, all I could think about is if she was going to be okay. After some time, she gave birth to a beautiful, brown and white, heifer calf whom I named Maggie. It was after this experience that I realized I wanted to help animals because I felt so useless at that time. I asked my parents if a job like that existed and they said that I could become a veterinarian. Since then, I have dedicated my studies to achieving the goal of becoming a livestock veterinarian. I want to help animals who can't help themselves. I want to help owners keep their animals happy and healthy so that they could experience what I did with 7224. However, aiding animals in crisis is one influence as to why I choose to study veterinary medicine. I want to educate the public about what it takes for one to become a veterinarian. Sure, this profession can be all puppies and kittens but, it's often surrounded by guilt and compassion fatigue. I want to encourage the public to be nicer to veterinarians because they never know how their actions can affect them. With more people leaving the profession than coming in, I believe that I must turn that number around. As I pursue my education, I want to gain as much knowledge and experience as I can so that not only can I become the best veterinarian I can be but, inform others about the positives of the profession. I want to show them how it can be very rewarding in some aspects such as seeing the gratefulness on the owner's faces after saving their pet's life. I truly believe that I can accomplish these items using my education from the University of Idaho. The courses, professors, and advisors here strive to do the best they can for their students. With this scholarship, I hope to further fund my education so that I can make a difference in veterinary medicine.
