As a male educator, I plan to make a positive impact on the world by serving as a role model, fostering inclusivity, and bringing diverse perspectives to the classroom. By building strong relationships with students, you can address both academic and social-emotional needs, especially for boys who often lack male mentors in school. Male instructors have a unique ability to form strong, positive relationships with children, contributing to their social and emotional development. The goal is not only to guide them academically, but also to help them cultivate vital life skills, such as resilience, empathy, and effective communication. People learn best from those who they feel similar to or are familiar with. In the classroom, boys who are often more prone to behavioral health struggles in their early and adolescent years than girls can benefit greatly from having a person of familiarity, like a male teacher, in their life. By succeeding and being visible as a male educator, you can help change the perception of teaching as a low-reward career for men, inspiring more young men to consider entering the field. Your presence can help fathers feel more comfortable and engaged in their child's education. This can bridge communication gaps and connect more families with school resources. Some studies suggest that male teachers can help high-energy students, particularly boys, better regulate their behavior by modeling calm, collected conduct. You can connect with students in unique ways, such as using a common hobby to increase engagement or presenting information in a way that is more relevant to boys. You can use your interests, such as sports, to create engaging, relatable classroom activities. This can increase student engagement and excitement for school. You can develop meaningful and trusting relationships with students who may feel more comfortable opening up to a male mentor. By taking on roles typically associated with women, such as an early childhood educator, you break down traditional roles and promote inclusivity from a young age. Your relationships with students can provide a safe space for them to develop essential life skills, such as empathy, communication, and conflict resolution. Every teacher has a unique style, and a mix of male and female educators enriches the classroom experience for everyone. Your unique viewpoint can offer fresh approaches to problem-solving and can inspire creativity and critical thinking. As you establish your professional reputation, focus on authentic connections with your students and let the quality of your teaching counter any initial biases.

WinnerHello, my name is Jimmerion Elliott. I am a PFC in the United States Army. I recently completed 10 weeks of Military training. After high school I return to Missouri to complete my AIT training. The military had always been an interest for me. I’m currently the Sgt. Major of my high school JROTC program. I would like to become a JROTC instructor one day. To attend college is very important for me. My mom is a single parent and she works hard to provide for ma and my brother. I was very proud when I was accepted as a Soldier in the military. I’ve encouraged my friends to join as well. This is was a life changing experience for me and my family. It wasn’t an easy 10 weeks, but it was worth all the sweat and tears. I think that every high school senior should go to a college or join the military. We know that college is not for everyone, but a trade of some sort would be helpful to land a career. We have all of these that visits our school during our senior year and I encourage my friends and classmates to find something that they’re interested in and find out what they need to do to get into that program. I’m very excited on where I’ve landed at this time in my life. I’m still working on college applications and scholarships so that I can figure out what works best for me. I’m an honors to see that you’re offering a scholarship in his name for his services in the military. I don’t know him, but he’s my brother and I thank him for his services. I’ve read over the article twice and it the story touched me because I’m so young and I’m serving my country. We as black Americans don’t realize the importance of doing something that makes us stand out from others. I stand tall in my uniform and proud to be an American Soldier. I with be all I can be. I won’t disappoint my ancestors and this like him that made a sacrifice for us. This means a lot to me. This is one of the first scholarships that I’ve applied for and it’s giving me motivation and encouragement to continue to apply. I would like to thank you advance for this opportunity and may God continue to bless you.
