My educational journey took an unexpected turn during my junior year of high school, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This period of uncertainty had a profound impact on my mental health, turning what was supposed to be a time of growth and learning into one of the most challenging phases of my life. As the world around me flipped upside down, my mental well-being deteriorated significantly. The isolation and drastic changes brought about by the pandemic created an environment where I felt utterly misunderstood. My parents, though aware of my struggles, could not comprehend the extent to which I was suffering. I found myself neglecting my health, both physically and mentally, becoming a person I hardly recognized. My days started with logging into virtual classes, brushing my teeth, and washing my face, but I wouldn't eat until our scheduled lunch break, which often consisted of meager snacks. I vividly remember one day when my "lunch" was a small bag of Goldfish crackers and water. Despite this feeling of shame, I felt powerless to change it. My life became confined to my room, glued to my schoolwork to the point where I completely neglected my basic needs. I often used the excuse of being busy to avoid addressing my mental health. It reached a point where completing my schoolwork became a prerequisite for attending to my basic needs, almost as if it were a reward. Despite my mother's lack of understanding of my situation, she recognized my need for help and enrolled me in therapy. Initially, I was resistant to the idea, convinced that therapy would not make a difference. During my therapy sessions, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Phobia, and Major Depressive Disorder with recurrent episodes. Hearing these diagnoses was a shock. I thought the struggles I was facing were a normal reaction to the pandemic. I believed that everyone was experiencing the same level of difficulty. While it was true that many were struggling, my experience was far more intense. I had always suspected I had anxiety but it had never been officially diagnosed. Being labeled as the "shy" and "quiet" kid led me to believe that the anxiety I felt in social situations was normal because of these labels. However, my first therapist's kindness and understanding helped me gradually open up. This initial experience with therapy, combined with my mother's unwavering support, marked the beginning of a transformative journey. Therapy became a cornerstone of my life, teaching me how to manage my anxiety and depression. Through therapy, I discovered aspects of myself that I had never acknowledged before. What I once considered "normal", I learned to address and work through it. The process was enlightening and empowering, though I realized I still had a long way to go. During this period of self-discovery, I found my calling. Inspired by the significant impact therapy had on my life, I decided that I wanted to become a therapist. While I have yet to determine my specialization, my goal is clear: to help as many people as possible. If someone needs me to sit with them in their moment of despair, I am committed to being that source of support and understanding. This experience has profoundly contributed to my personal growth. The challenges I faced with my mental health during a global crisis taught me resilience and the importance of seeking help. I am forever grateful to my mother and my therapist for their roles in my recovery. Their support not only changed my life but also shaped my aspirations.

From her debut album to the transformative "Eras Tour", Taylor's music has mapped my emotional journey, helping me discover and understand facets of my identity and experiences in ways I never imagined. Taylor's music is so diverse; there's an album for every emotion. Her self-titled album captured the innocence and optimism of youth. "Fearless" embodies the excitement and confusion of first love. "Speak Now" taught me the power of self-expression and owning my story. The raw honesty in "Red" spoke to heartbreak and self-discovery. "1989" was an anthem of reinvention and embracing one's true self. "reputation" explored the complexities of fame, betrayal, love, and resilience. "Lover" celebrated love and connection in all forms. "folklore" and "evermore" offered introspective storytelling about the human experience. Finally, "Midnights" and "The Tourtued Poets Department" dive into reflective moments, which solidifies Taylor both as a pop icon and a poetic storyteller. My journey with Taylor began unknowingly with "Our Song", but it was during the "Red" era that I officially became a fan. Hearing "I Knew You Were Trouble" on the radio had solidified me into a swiftie. The blend of pop and country, the raw emotion, and the infectious energy had captured my heart. From that moment, I adored Taylor and her music. Her ability to articulate emotions so precisely and her dedication to her craft is unreal. Seeing Taylor live during "The Eras Tour" in Arizona was a life-changing experience. I'm pretty sure I blacked out the first couple of songs out of excitement. It was the very first time I saw her live, and I was completely starstruck both nights. The concert was not just a performance; it was a journey through my own life, with each era representing a different stage of my own growth and self-discovery. Every era of Taylor's career has mirrored a part of my own journey. "Taylor Swift" and "Fearless" echoed my childhood dreams and optimism of youth. "Speak Now" and "Red" resonated with my struggle of starting and making friends at school, as they quickly became my companions who taught me to voice my thoughts and feelings. "1989" and "reputation" were my anthem of self-acceptance and strength as I navigated middle school, leaving to attend high school. TEAM ROX Scholarship
From a young age, I have always been fascinated by the intricacies of human behavior and the profound impact that a supportive presence can have on an individual's life. This fascination has evolved into a purposeful passion to help others be their best selves. This journey began in high school, where I took my first psychology course. As we explored the brain, various therapy styles, and more, I found myself deeply engaged and eager to learn more. Concurrently, I became a confidant for my friends and family, which taught me the importance of active listening--truly hearing what others were saying without judgment or interruption. I quickly realized that I had become a safe space for others to express their feelings. I felt privileged to be entrusted with emotions that were not shared with anyone else. These early experiences revealed my desire to provide a supportive environment for those around me. As I matured, I understood that helping others required more than just being a good listener. It demanded a deeper understanding of own emotions and mental health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I faced significant personal challenges that tested my emotional resilience. The pandemic's unique stressors and isolation led to a huge decline in my mental health, prompting me to seek therapy for the first time. This experience opened my eyes to the complexities of mental health and the importance of professional support. Through therapy, I learned to manage my emotions and maintain my mental health. Although I am still in therapy, I have made significant progress and gained invaluable insights that have strengthened my empathy and equipped me to support others more effectively. Now that I'm in college, I chose to major in Behavioral Health Sciences, where I can delve deeper into the human psyche and the various factors that influence behavior. My coursework and practical experiences in psychology labs allowed me to develop a nuanced understanding of mental health issues and therapeutic techniques. I became very good at offering advice from multiple perspectives, understanding that every individual is unique and that solutions must be tailored to fit their specific circumstances. This ability to see situations from different angles has been instrumental in providing effective support to others. In addition, I have also sought to be a source of support in everyday interactions. Whether it's helping a friend through a tough breakup or offering guidance to a stressed-out classmate, I strive to be a consistent, reliable presence in the lives of those around me. This everyday practice has been instrumental in refining my skills and solidifying my passion for helping others. Looking forward, I am committed to continuing my journey. I aspire to become a licensed therapist, where I can apply my skills and experience to make a broader impact. I believe that everyone has the potential to be their best self and with the right support, they can overcome their obstacles and achieve their goals. My purpose is to be that support, to help others navigate their paths with confidence and resilience. In conclusion, my development of skills and passion for helping others to be their best is deeply rooted in my own personal growth, academic pursuits, and practical experiences. The therapist I had during the COVID-19 pandemic was a pivotal moment that opened my eyes to many aspects of mental health and solidified my dedication to this field. I will forever be grateful for that experience. Through attentive listening, emotional maturity, and a compassionate approach, I have dedicated myself to being a beacon of support and guidance. If I could have everyone in the world read just one book, that book would be "Little Women," by Louisa May Alcott. This timeless novel captures the essence of human experience, weaving together themes of girlhood, friendship, family, and the myriad challenges faced by women. Through the lives of the four March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy--Alcott paints a rich and beautiful tapestry of individual aspirations and collective strength that resonates across generations and cultures. "Little Women" celebrates the vibrant diversity of personalities and dreams. Each sister embodies very distinct characteristics and ambitions: Meg, with her desire for a peaceful life; Jo, with her desire for independence and literary aspirations; Beth, with her gentle, selfless spirit and love of music; and Amy, with her artistic skills and social aspirations. These differences highlight the unique paths each sister can take while still being bound by familial love and support. In a world that is becoming more fragmented, the novel's depiction of unity amid diversity delivers a powerful message about strength found in community and understanding. Moreover, the struggles the March sisters face are very symbolic of the challenges that women have historically encountered and continue to confront today. Alcott's portrayal of their struggles, whether it's economic hardship, societal expectations, or personal loss, provides a nuanced look at the resilience and courage required to overcome adversity. This makes "Little Women" not just a story of its time, but a timeless guide for navigating the complexities of life with grace and fearlessness. The book also emphasizes the importance of personal growth and self-discovery. Each sister's journey towards self-realization is marked by moments of triumph and disappointment, mirroring the real-life process of maturing and finding one's place in the world. For example, Jo's struggle to balance her ambitions with her responsibilities highlights the universal challenges of balancing personal desires with external pressures. In a society that frequently emphasizes material achievement over personal fulfillment, "Little Women" serves as a timeless reminder of the lasting significance of love, compassion, and resilience. It teaches us that while our paths may differ, our shared humanity binds us together in a quest for meaning and connection. By reading this book, individuals from diverse backgrounds can grasp the significance of family, friendship, and pursuit of happiness. Therefore, it serves as a crucial tool for nurturing empathy and understanding within our community.
    1989 (Taylor's Version) Fan Scholarship
“New Romantics (Taylor’s Version)” by Taylor Swift is more than a catchy tune; it’s a reservoir of life’s wisdom, encapsulating resilience, growth, and the invaluable lessons gathered from life’s rollercoaster ride. In its spirited melody lies a profound narrative guiding us through life’s complexities: embracing resilience, celebrating imperfections, evolving, and finding strength within a community. Swift’s rendition of ‘New Romantics’ extends this narrative, emphasizing personal growth by acknowledging and learning from past mistakes. It champions the idea that setbacks aren’t endpoints but vital stages in self-discovery. This anthem transcends its catchy rhythm, echoing a profound message of individual development. In the journey of personal growth, this year has been transformative. Confronting fears and surpassing self-imposed limitations became a hallmark of my progress. One profound challenge I encountered was my fear of freeway driving, a hurdle that persisted since acquiring my license. However, a pivotal moment arose in September when, I impulsively ventured onto the freeway, triggered by the serendipitous melody of “New Romantics.” As the familiar tune resonated, I found solace in the lyrics, using them as an anchor to navigate my anxiety while merging. Despite initial jitters, I sang along, using Swift’s music to redirect my focus, eventually transitioning from trepidation to a newfound sense of ease. This uncomfortable experience highlighted the power of perseverance, turning fear into achievement. Overcoming personal challenges has been an integral part of my journey, and one significant hurdle I confronted was the discomfort I experienced in public spaces, especially when venturing out alone. Large gatherings used to evoke a sense of unease, leading me to avoid such situations altogether. The apprehension of engaging with strangers further intensified my aversion to socializing outside the confines of my home. However, my determination to break free from this constraint became evident during Record Store Day in April. Despite my usual reservations, I convinced myself to attend this event aimed at supporting locally-owned record stores and featuring limited edition media available for just one day. Drawing strength from my passion for music, I convinced my father to join me, knowing his presence helped alleviate my anxiety. However, a subsequent challenge arose during Record Store Day Black Friday when my friend unexpectedly canceled. Contemplating whether to abandon my quest for a specific vinyl, I engaged in a profound internal debate. Eventually, I decided to embark on the solo endeavor, arriving 30 minutes after the store’s opening and letting fate guide my journey. As doubts surfaced during the drive, my determination prevailed. Armed with my headphones and a playlist, I approached the line with a deep breath. Stepped into line, the familiar tune of “New Romantics (Taylor’s Version)” played through my headphones, providing a reassuring reminder that I had the resilience to navigate this journey alone. This defining moment showcased my ability to overcome social anxieties and reinforced my belief in thriving independently. The experience shaped my capacity to confront challenges and underscored the transformative power of self-reliance, highlighting the profound impact of music on my resilience. Swift’s anthem became my figurative co-pilot, guiding me through anxious moments and teaching me that setbacks aren’t defining but transformative. Just as the “New Romantics” proudly sing of heartbreaks, I learned to acknowledge and learn from difficulties, cherishing the strength they’ve endowed. Life’s playlist resonates uniquely, yet “New Romantics” remains a universal anthem of resilience and personal evolution. It’s not just music; it’s a beacon, urging us to dance through the pain and emerge fortified. As I traverse this journey, I carry the song’s lessons, embracing challenges as stepping stones toward personal growth.
