I'll start my essay with a warning that in no way am I trying to make this a sob story to pave my way into getting what I want or need. My name is Jilliana, and a little bit about myself is that I have had a rough upbringing in my own opinion. Growing up, I experienced abuse in many forms, rape, and homelessness. Although all those things sound sad, they play a huge role in who I am today and the impacts I choose/ want to make in my daily life and future. Once again in no way am I trying to make this a cry out for help, but circling back to the tragic events I have endured. Those circumstances led me to see the harsh truth of the world, almost causing me to mature faster. I got to see many kids who were going through the same thing as me, such as homelessness/low-income struggles. I saw with my own eyes many families , like my own, struggling to simply afford shoes and often resorting to many local shelters for their needs. I saw my peers who experienced abuse go through changes in therapy in a negative way , often praying I'd overcome that step in healing. I saw what it was like to lay on a hospital bed and wonder, "Why me?" while crying, explaining that no means no. Seeing and experiencing the bad too the world made me want to be the good. I strive to want to help everyone around but a girl can only do so much. I struggled choosing between majors and which one my heart was set in. I know in the end I want to help kids no matter what because I was a kid pleading for help at one point. The career I am choosing is nursing, specifically a Pediatric Nurse or maybe a Public Health Nurse. This field can be specialized with a forensic nurse. All leading to help kids with cases. Cases of abuse, trauma or assault. While the nurses help them they have to carry the weight of being the kids support and care system and so much more. Which is everything I want to be a part of. I plan on making a positive impact through my career for the greater good by playing the role I know many kids need. The role I once needed. I plan on making sure no kid feels alone, allowing them to know there is someone there for them. I want to reassure kids that the bad in the world doesn't define them or the life they will live. Not only will I carry my intentions in my career path, I will also want to pour them into my community and the world as a whole. I will do this by using my knowledge to my best ability and volunteer to organizations like hospitals, clinics, and community centers. I know there will be many other ways I can contribute to my community like mentoring future nurses, fundraising and collaborating with other professions to work together to help address needs of families and children. In the end, there are not enough words to describe how badly I want to help kids who need it. I know deep in my heart though, I will carve a pathway through the positive impacts I make with my career choice for my community around me. I will make sure no kid feels like they have the weight of the world on their shoulder and that nursing can be more than just band-aids and needles.
