Role models are always around us, and there can be a number of people who inspire and motivate you to be the best version of yourself. I have had multiple role models in my life, and the only constant role model I have had has been my grandmother. My role model in life has been and always will be my Grandmother. My grandmother's passing has affected my family forever, and as a way to cope, we share memories and use religion as a way to keep her memory alive. My grandmother had 12 kids with her husband and after 20 years of marriage, he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away months after, leaving her to raise their 12 kids as a single mother. My grandmother's greatest wish was to work hard enough to provide for her children and for them to get a proper education. She made such an impact on all of us and instilled morals and values that my whole family has been able to prosper and better ourselves. My grandmother lived in a state of such poverty in the Dominican Republic that my parents and siblings were not able to afford a college education. Upon arriving in this country my grandmother helped raise me while my mother worked 2 part-time jobs. At one point, we were living in a shelter. Later on, my grandmother started to take care of children to earn extra income. She left such an impact on all of the children that she cared for. She was the type of person who could do it all. She could handle anything and everything. This part of my person, I got from her, she has always been that woman to never give up. Without a college degree, she was always able to excel with a natural intelligence in everything she did. She not only was there for the family but for everyone in the neighborhood. She instilled in the family to always do our very best no matter what is was we were doing. Since she helped raise me, I would spend a lot of time with her and she spoke to me about her experiences. I was able to learn through those stories of her struggle, and that gave me strength to want to better myself so that I can provide for her, and take care of her when the time came. Unfortunately, she has passed, and she will not be able to see me graduate college but I know how proud she would be that all her hard work paid off.
