My name is Jhantierra McCline, and I'm currently pursuing an ADN degree to become a Registered Nurse. My future plans include me eventually working toward becoming a nurse practitioner, specializing in mental health or labor and delivery. I graduated as an LPN in 2017, and most of my experience has been in geriatrics and mental health, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working in this field. I grew up watching my mother experience epilepsy, as well as other medical issues she experienced that have led to my interest in the medical field. She has been my main inspiration for being persistent and pursuing my degrees because I've seen her exhibit resilience. Over time, it led to my interest in helping people. I never quite knew what field I wanted to enter, but I always knew I wanted to help, whether it was teaching, nursing, or social work. I decided on nursing after developing a deep interest in biology and how the body works, but nursing does beyond that. After working as a nurse, I found that I enjoyed being an advocate for my patients. I have enjoyed being an educator and assisting my patients with areas of life where they need help. As I stated above, my interests are between labor and delivery and mental health. During my clinical experiences, these are fields that I found myself thriving and enjoying it. My main goal is to continue being a patient advocate. I like to be the voice for my patients and to eliminate any obstacles if there is a way I can help. In mental health, sometimes being a voice of reason or just a listening ear for support can make a major difference. Overall, I love every aspect of nursing. I love that it involves a team to provide care, and each role is equally important.
