I am a senior in high school, dual enrolled in community college, and on track to graduate in 2025 with a 3.82 GPA. As a first-generation college student, I’ve embraced opportunities to grow academically and personally while balancing a variety of roles and responsibilities.
I want to pursue a career in veterinary science because I’m passionate about animal care and well-being. My experience in the Mayor’s Youth Internship Program gave me hands-on exposure to animal welfare, including administering medicine and learning about the responsibilities of the Animal Services Division. This solidified my interest in working with animals and making a difference in their lives.
As a tri-sport athlete, student apprentice, and participant in multiple internships, I’ve developed strong leadership, time management, and communication skills. I’ve also attended leadership camps and been actively involved in school organizations, which have helped me grow as a responsible and compassionate individual.
Outside of academics, I enjoy mentoring younger students, staying active, and working on projects that let me connect with and serve my community. I’m committed to making a positive impact and look forward to continuing my education to become a veterinarian.

I have always shared a unique relationship with animals as I grew up. Whether being responsible for a family pet or helping with community functions with livestock, I was at ease and content being in their company. As I grew older, that relationship turned into an immense love for the care of animals and farm work. Now, as a senior in high school—dual-enrolled in a community college and graduating in 2025 with a GPA of 3.82—I'm excited to make a career of veterinary science, where I can turn my hobby into a life career.
As a first-generation college student, I've had to learn much on my own. It's that autonomy that has toughened me into a tougher and more committed individual to pursue a career at something that I am so enamored with. I've always believed that animals, just like humans, ought to be treated with compassion, care, and respect. That feeling was strengthened even more when I worked in the Mayor's Youth Internship Program under the Animal Services Division. I helped with tasks like administering medication, feeding animals, cage cleaning, and observing professionals at work in the field. It was hard physically and emotionally, but I enjoyed every second of it. The experience showed me that not only do I want to work with animals—I need to.
Aside from my internship, I've done everything I can to learn skills that will be helpful in agriculture and animal care. I'm a tri-sport athlete, and what this has provided me with is discipline, teamwork, and time management. I'm also a student apprentice in a third-grade classroom where I've learned to be patient, a leader, and able to communicate well with others—skills that are just as important when working with animals and their owners. I've attended leadership camps, completed several internships, and stayed active in community service. Through all these experiences, I’ve learned the value of hard work, empathy, and resilience.
One of the largest challenges I've encountered is feeling unwanted or forgotten. That made me want to prove myself not only to others, but to myself. Working with animals made me feel needed and like I belonged. Animals don't judge; they rely on you to take care of them. That makes me want to continue learning, growing, and being the best version of myself.
Agriculture and animal husbandry aren't just about feeding animals or working on a barn—those are about building a better tomorrow for our communities. I want to be a part of it. Whether it's veterinary medicine, public outreach, or community engagement, I want to use my talents and experiences to support animal health protection and promote responsible agricultural practices.
I understand that the path won't be easy, but I'm ready for it. I've worked hard to get where I am, and I'm excited to keep pushing forward. My passion for animals and agriculture isn't just a career goal—it's who I am.

Science and math are the foundations of innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking. As someone passionate about education, I want to use my love for these subjects to inspire future students and equip them with the skills necessary for success in an increasingly complex world. Through engaging teaching methods, hands-on learning experiences, and a focus on real-world applications, I aim to make science and math accessible, exciting, and meaningful for all students.
One of the biggest challenges in education today is making science and math enjoyable and relevant. Many students struggle with these subjects because they find them difficult or disconnected from their daily lives. To address this, I plan to incorporate interactive and project-based learning in my future classroom. By using real-life examples, such as exploring the physics behind sports or the chemistry in cooking, I can show students how these subjects apply to their interests and everyday experiences. Demonstrating the practical applications of math and science will not only help students grasp difficult concepts but also cultivate their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
Another way I hope to impact future students is by encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Science and math are not just about memorizing formulas and equations; they are about asking questions, analyzing data, and finding creative solutions. By fostering an inquiry-based learning environment, I will encourage students to think critically, experiment, and embrace mistakes as part of the learning process. This approach will not only strengthen their understanding of the material but also prepare them for future careers that require analytical and innovative thinking.
Hands-on learning is another key aspect of my approach. Conducting science experiments, engaging in mathematical puzzles, and using technology to simulate real-world problems can make these subjects more dynamic and engaging. For example, using coding activities to teach mathematical logic or conducting chemistry experiments to explore molecular interactions can make abstract concepts more tangible. Providing students with opportunities to explore and experiment will help build their confidence and deepen their understanding.
Additionally, I am passionate about making science and math education more inclusive. Many students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, may feel discouraged from pursuing careers in STEM fields due to a lack of representation or resources. As an educator, I want to create a supportive learning environment where every student feels capable and encouraged to explore these subjects. By highlighting diverse scientists and mathematicians, providing mentorship opportunities, and fostering a growth mindset, I hope to inspire students to believe in their abilities and pursue their interests without fear of failure.
Beyond the classroom, I also want to promote STEM education through community engagement. Hosting science fairs, math competitions, and workshops for younger students can ignite a passion for these subjects at an early age. Partnering with local organizations to provide hands-on STEM experiences can further bridge the gap between education and real-world applications. Encouraging students to take part in STEM-related extracurricular activities can help them build confidence and develop a lifelong interest in these fields.
In conclusion, my love for science and math drives me to create an engaging, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment for future students. By incorporating real-world applications, hands-on learning, and critical thinking strategies, I hope to make these subjects more accessible and enjoyable. Through my passion for teaching, I aspire to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers, innovators, and thinkers, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in an ever-evolving world.

Life does have its challenges, but that doesn't close the door to success. Perhaps the toughest challenge I have ever faced in my life was overcoming feelings of not being wanted and finding my sense of belonging. It has made me the strong, compassionate person I am today, and it has given me the will to help others find their own sense of purpose and value.
Being adopted has always been a fundamental part of who I am, although it was not always simple to accept. As a kid, I struggled with questions about my biological family, my purpose for being, and where I ultimately belonged. These unknowns sometimes left me feeling disconnected and strange compared to other people around me. As I moved into young adulthood, these feelings became intensified and revealed themselves in the form of self-doubt as well as episodes of emotional exhaustion. I sometimes had to prove myself to others, challenging myself to do well academically, athletically, and extracurricularly so that I might feel as if I belonged.
Yet rather than allowing these feelings to have their way with me, I was capable of finding strength in those people surrounding me. My support system—my adoptive family, friends, teachers, and mentors—showed me that wanting has nothing to do with biology but with the amount of love and care we have for us. I learned to embrace my story and make it a driving force rather than a cause for doubt. Instead of letting my past determine my fate, I transformed my life experiences into personal growth and resiliency. I started examining the positives in my life—my opportunities, my support, and my ability to create my own future. I found that while I couldn't alter my past, I could alter the way I moved forward.
This realization has had a lasting effect in shaping me into the person I am today. It has also sparked my passion to work with children, particularly those who might feel unnoticed or unsure of their own potential. As a student apprentice in an elementary school classroom, I work to provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere where each child is made to feel special. My life experiences have afforded me a special insight and compassion that enables me to reach students who are facing challenges of their own. I want to be the kind of mentor who helps children believe in themselves, as my mentors have helped me.
Beyond the classroom, facing adversity has taught me a deep understanding of resilience and adaptability. Life is unpredictable, and challenges are inevitable, yet I have found that setbacks do not define us—our perseverance and how we overcome them do. My experiences have made me stronger, more compassionate, and more determined to make a difference in the lives of others.
Looking forward, I plan to take these lessons with me to my own teaching career, ensuring that every student I encounter feels valued and understood to be full of potential. I try to create a comfortable and safe environment in my classroom for all students to be who they are and grow. I hope to help children visualize that their challenges do not define them but shape them into resilient and strong creatures that they were born to be.
Life may be full of challenges, yet they are mere stepping stones to success. It is through overcoming them that we become the best that we can be. My journey has taught me to embrace resilience, ask for help when I need it, and share my experiences to motivate others.

One of my favorite activities in the local community that I have been fortunate enough to be involved in is the annual Animal Services Adoption Fair. The fair, organized by the Animal Services Division, brings together community members, volunteers, and animal lovers to help find forever homes for rescued animals. My involvement in this activity was a byproduct of my internship with the Mayor's Youth Internship Program, Animal Services Division, where I gained exposure to real-life work on animal welfare and advocacy.
The Adoption Fair meant a lot to me because it was a merger of my passion for animal welfare and my desire to contribute to society in a positive way. During the event, I assisted in the setup of adoption booths, ensuring that animals were being well cared for, and helping potential adopters find the perfect pet for their home. The look on people's faces when they connected with an animal was pure happiness. Seeing a once-neglected pet find a safe and loving home reaffirmed my own belief in community service and responsible pet ownership.
Other than the adoptions, the event also provided positive learning experiences for the public. Volunteers and staff educated the visitors on proper pet care, how to be a good pet owner, and how spaying and neutering would help prevent overpopulation. The majority of the families, especially those with young kids, learned how to interact safely with pets as well as make good decisions prior to bringing a pet into their home. Watching these conversations exchange was an experience that made me realize how significant awareness is in reducing the count of stray and abandoned animals within our society.
Maybe the best prize of the Adoption Fair was cooperation among different segments of the community. Sponsors were donated by local companies, free check-ups were offered by veterinarians, and volunteer efforts were done by high school students like me to help with a multitude of things. This coordination showed how one goal could bring together different people towards making an actual difference.
While the event was successful at finding homes for many animals, there are changes I would want to see implemented in my area due to it. One of the biggest necessities would be having adoption fairs more frequently and in more places. Having a number of them a year throughout different areas would enhance adoption numbers on pets and enable more contact with families that may not have been able to visit a once-a-year gathering.
In addition, I would also like to see more educational courses on responsible pet ownership. Schools can incorporate lessons on animal welfare into their curriculum, and community centers can offer workshops for families who are considering adopting a pet. Increased awareness of the problems associated with pet ownership would result in fewer instances of pet abandonment and neglect.
Last but not least, I would also appreciate more local policy makers making a commitment towards animal welfare activities. This could mean funds for more shelters, stiffer punishments for animal cruelty, and incentives for residents to adopt rather than shop from breeders. All in all, the community can ensure that every animal gets a fair chance at being adopted by a loving and secure home.
The Animal Services Adoption Fair was more than an event—it was a powerful reminder of the good which can be accomplished when a community comes together with a common cause. My experience reinforced my desire to serve and advocate, and I look forward to being able to make a positive impact in the lives of animals and individuals in the future.
