Nice to meet you! My name is Jessica and I am enrolled in a Bachelor Graphic Design program! I have many loves and hobbies, but my favorite one would be painting. I grew up under parents who taught me that you've got to work hard for what you really want and to never take anything for granted. If you choose me for a scholarship, I will forever be grateful and honored.

My interest in Art has always been there since I was very young. I grew up painting and scrapbooking with my mom, and I have continuously loved it ever since. Any school project that was due, any homemade gift for a family member I made, I would always go above and beyond. Art classes were my favorite and I would look forward to them every week until I graduated. If there was one thing I knew I could do, it was create with my hands. When I first started taking painting seriously it was sophomore year of high school. I was enrolled into a beginner basic art class, and I decided to ask the teacher personally if I could move into his more advanced painting class instead. He put the request through and the next week I was sitting at my desk with oil paints and a canvas. Throughout that year and next, after every project, the teacher would keep a stack of old, blank canvases in a corner to reuse. I would then take multiple canvases home to paint for future paintings. This started leading into Senior year where I would eventually start selling and taking commissions for my art. In the beginning of 2020, by February my art was hanging up in my local coffee shop, and I was told that school would be cancelled for two weeks. In those two weeks, I had made it a goal to take many of the old canvases home so I could fill up my time with projects that I could then turn in for credit. Since then, painting has been a constant part in my life. Coming from a family that has pushed college and the effort to get a good degree, I started my first few semesters online in fall of 2020 at my local community college. I had been on track to finish my basic courses and Associate's in Science to then transfer into a Speech Pathology program. After two semesters passed, I was told that I had to drop school and work to pick up and move out to Colorado. I took a year off from school to help out a family friend's business. Working in the Safety and Medical industry, everyday every training class, I have been told that I should become a nurse. I would like to and I know that I would be good at it, but looking at all of the local programs online and in-person, it doesn't feel right for me. Now could I pursue it once I settle down and have kids? Of course! But for now, and day that passes, all I want to do is focus on my art. In the last year or so, my everyday-joke is "I should open up an art gallery and host get-togethers and dinner parties." That is what I truly want to do with the rest of my life. A dream to be able to have an open art studio where someone besides myself can just come in, and sit down to work on their art projects. Even to just enjoy a small dinner with friends learning how to paint for the night. For now, I will continue school, and continue doing what I love, so I can show and help others to do the same. Art isn't, just a painting, a photo (etc.) it's supposed to make you feel something, to see life in a different way and I want others to experience that for themselves.

Inspiration is best defined as 'to feel something, especially to do something - creatively". I am most inspired by the states I live and have lived in. Residing in Colorado there are neverending views of lakes and mountains to even sand dunes in the south. One of the art pieces I have recently finished is "A Tribute to a Year in CO". Not only was it dedicated to the year I have lived here, but it was also the first time since my early years in high school that I have used oil paints.
In my day-to-day life, there are many other inspirations that I have incorporated into my paintings. The music I listen to, the flowers I bought that week, and also the biggest one - my dad. Any painting that I have created, there is never one that I have not heard "If there's anyone on this Earth, if no one tells you, just know I am proud of you."
Art will always be a part of me and I will forever be grateful that I get to do and learn more about what I love.
