Playing chess always felt daunting. During free time in school, I remember always seeing the chess board in class and no one would want to play. My only experience with chess was playing online using the hint button. It took me playing with my nephew to learn how to stop fearing the game. I learned that one needs to have patients, especially towards the end of the game. It is very easy for anyone to lose focus because before they realize what’s happening, on the next move it's checkmate. I felt very confident because I was winning, and suddenly I heard my nephew say “Checkmate, I win.”. His tower took over my king. My experience with chess left me reflecting on how I need to stop fearing new things and be patient. Like chess, when reaching for my goals, if I lose, I'll just have to reset and keep on going with a new strategy. I’m already implementing this strategy by applying to scholarships because before, I felt they were always unattainable. Now, I know it is all about going forward no matter what strategies you have to use in order to reach your goals.
