It all started on a typical Saturday morning while I hurried on to turn the TV on. When I was younger, I watched a show called ‘Doc McStuffins’ where the main character, Doc, possesses the magical ability to bring her toys to life. She communicates with them and diagnoses their condition. She provides them with the necessary treatment needed to relieve their discomfort. I admired her kindness, gentleness and attentiveness to her patients' needs, which became the foundation of my passion for healthcare. I aspire to become a nurse because I want to be able to make a positive impact on the lives of my patients. From a young age, I knew I wanted to help people, guided by the values of kindness, respect and thoughtfulness that was instilled in me by my mother. The satisfaction derived from helping, no matter how small the act, has been meaningful to me. I see nurses as true heroes, passionately attending to their patients’ needs, caring for their well-being, and bringing smiles to their faces. Nurses are people who give their all to see their patient have the best care under conditions that change spontaneously. I want to be a nurse so that I am able to connect with patients on a deeper level that doctors may not be able to, advocate for them, have their best interest at heart, be their friend, and give them the proper care they need. I observed a lack of diversity in healthcare professionals that didn't look like me during my visits to doctors with my parents. I know for myself and my parents it made us feel more comfortable to see diversity and representation of our people in the hospitals and in the Doctor’s office. This has inspired me to break those boundaries and help people who may not know English very well. Growing up, I often found myself translating medical terms to my parents, highlighting the need for health professionals who can bridge language gaps. Through nursing, I believe that I will be able to contribute to breaking down those language barriers. Regardless of their language proficiency they will receive the proper care they need and the understanding they deserve. In our school district, there’s an annual “Back to School’ event where they give bookbags to kids that need them. There’re companies such as health insurances, and the Brentwood Public Library that support the event and provide valuable information. There’s a stand for free checkups. In this stand you can talk to a nurse or health professional about any concern you may have, and they are more than willing to help you. Inspired by this, I want to participate in community outreach programs, offering people information and assistance that they may be hesitant to ask their local Doctors. Nursing offers a variety of specialties, and you can travel to different countries or states. With my nursing career I envision travelling the world, providing inaccessible services to those who are in need or don’t have the resources to afford them. Traveling to these different countries would help me learn more about diverse cultures and meet new people. Contributing to the world and changing someone’s life, even by simply being there to lend an ear, would fulfill my goal of making a meaningful difference.
