Not only has this new information helped me learn more about nursing itself but it made me want to become either a pediatrics nurse or a informatics nurse. I’m deciding between these two pathways because I have a knack when it comes to communicating/caring for kids and since I’m the youngest in my family I’ve always wondered what’d it be like to have a younger sibling that I could help take care of as well. When it comes to informatics nursing I like researching, and doing my fair share of work electronically because I can catch on quickly when it comes to doing new things specifically online. Nurses are professionals who dedicate their lives to helping and bettering people’s lives. Nurses aid everyone from the time of birth to the time of death as well as many life stages in between. Loved ones of those who are helped by nurses rely on nurses to help make their sister, brother, child, or parent healthier. The wish that everyone has for their loved ones to be treated with respect and compassion is determined by the passion and hard work a nurse has. I believe that one day I will be able to be a nurse who has a great amount passion for helping people and the determination to do all I can to help those in need. There are many reasons why I want to achieve my goal of being a helpful nurse and pursue a career in nursing. I believe my continuous dedication in school will be beneficial to me during my time in the nursing program. My attention to the information received will help me while I am in clinicals and the various labs throughout the program. I have always been a very hard-working student and I always put my education first. I think it is very important to attend classes and ask questions when information is not clear and I do not understand. I believe that there are not many other careers that can help individuals on a personal level that can help as many lives as nursing does. Nursing will give me opportunities to showcase my organizational and quick decision-making skills while maintaining compassion and a calming presence. I have always been interested in pursuing a career in nursing ever since entering the LPN program at Inlet Grove Community High School. I feel that Practical Nursing sets the stage for a Registered Nurse. I have always wanted to be a Registered Nurse as well. After completing these two short-term goals, I am going to pursue and reach my long-term goals which are, getting my BSN in nursing, taking a gap year to strengthen my abilities as a nurse, going back to school to get my master, and doctorate so I can open my own clinic one day. The first long-term goal that I mentioned is getting my BSN in nursing. Having your BSN in nursing opens so many endless possibilities and opportunities to help those in need and allows you to go into any path of nursing that interests you. Finally, I feel that I should be considered for this scholarship because of the unique abilities I can put to use when I graduate, and earning this scholarship will help me get one step closer to being able to pay for nursing school moving forward. When I was little I was always scared of going to places like the hospital or doctors office but one person changed my mindset one day and that was my doctor. Unlike my past experiences of going to a doctors office and usually being scared to get a shot this doctor I had actually took my feelings into consideration on how I felt scared about getting a shot and reassured me that it would pinch but it would help to keep me healthy which lessened my fears a bit. As I grew up, I realized that I wanted to be a person that someone could rely on if they’re scared or have someone to listen to them because it feels like no one else is. This experience made me realize that I wanted to go into the healthcare field specifically in nursing. The nursing industry interests me as a career choice because it’s not just about caring for your patients but seeing that your actions towards the care you put in for them made a difference. My goals for a successful career would be to pass my exit and NCLEX exam in the nursing program that my high school offers so I can get my LPN license, and finishing my pre-requisites at Palm Beach State to continue my nursing education further and one day become a nurse practitioner owning my own clinic one day. Some personal accomplishments of mine that have helped me to pursue these goals were keeping my grades and GPA in tip top shape so I could enter the nursing program and passing my major tests along the way to continue being in the nursing program. Some medical experience I have includes going to nursing homes to shadow CNA’s while they worked, volunteering in the Big Brother Big Sister program in a school for autistic children and adults, going to different schools to teach them about different topics such as how to stop the bleed, how to do CPR, and how to prevent infections. I've stayed optimistic through tough times by reminding myself that I don't go through things alone and that there are others who most likely go through the same things I do and knowing that they are there for me and are only a call or a text a away. Another way I've stayed positive is by cutting out all the things in my life that give off negativity and only focusing on the things that radiate positivity to me and the people around me as well. All of these things have taught me that as I get older it's not abnormal to end relationships with people who you might've known your whole life because it's normal for people to grow in two different directions and give their full attention to the different priorities in life that they may have compared to you. On top of that, it's taught me that as a person I shouldn't let any external factors limit my growth in my life for other people's benefit and that I should be proud of myself for my accomplishments and learn to believe in myself more no matter what anyone says or the obstacles I may face while achieving what I want in life.
