Dice rolled across the board, and pieces moved space by space as family game night turned into an unforgettable lesson in money management and preparation for life. My initial encounter with Monopoly at age five stirred a passion for negotiation, competition, and financial strategy. What started as an introduction to basic economics slowly morphed into a personal journey, parlaying my own personal "monopoly game" that I refer to as Life. This curiosity about strategy has made me seek out experiences that would make me know more about economics and investing. I have thrown myself into courses such as accounting, personal finance, and economics, supplementing independent study of numerous companies and their respective market behaviors. With the staunch encouragement of my family and friends, I started investing at a young age. When I realized how a lot of people my age were either too busy or did not know anything about investment and/or financial management, I created a step-by-step guide to investing on YouTube called "Investment Buddies." It turned out to be my own personal venue where I share insights and strategies that helped other people understand the basics to investing with important terminology, history, business strategies, and investing strategies, while in return, facilitating the solidification of concepts in my own mind. Continuing with my educational career, I look forward to further development of my knowledge and skills in finance at a similarly ambitious college. Through the receipt of a scholarship, there would be a strong lessening of the financial constraint associated with being in school, enabling me the capability of focusing on my studies and involvement in extracurricular activities without constant financial pressures. This support would afford me invaluable access to various resources, networking opportunities, and mentorship programs that I consider crucial to my growth in the finance industry. In this career based on business and finance, I aspire to encourage financial independence, security, and success among others, whether in personal or corporate finances. More importantly, this scholarship is not only about financial assistance, but it represents an essential milestone in reaching my objectives, and I relate this to my community: helping empower people by realizing their financial goals. This scholarship will create a ripple of positivity and support to those around me as I lead by example, showing that financial freedom is about the small steps we take toward our future, eventually creating a culture of financial literacy and responsibility through the investment in my education.

The echoing emptiness of the halls felt lifeless without the elementary school students running and laughing boisterously. Sitting on the bench outside the classroom, I pondered what my parents and my second-grade teacher, Mrs. C, were discussing. After what seemed like ages, my parents exited the room. I eagerly jumped up, excited to get home and catch the next Wild Kratts episode, but I noticed a somber look on their faces. At home, they sat me down at the kitchen table and said, "We need to talk." My IOWA exam results showed I had fallen below the 10th percentile for my age due to a speech impediment and struggles with reading. My parents feared I might be held back a grade. In response, I worked with tutors, spending hours after school practicing to catch up and surpass my classmates. My tutor’s dedication showed me the power of small, yet impactful actions—efforts that help others fulfill their potential. I’ll never forget the pride in Mrs. C’s eyes as I gradually caught up, and how their pride fueled my own joy and accomplishment. Their belief in me inspired me to look beyond my challenges and to one day bring the same joy to others. Entering middle school, I was given my first opportunity to tutor younger students and support teachers through the school’s volunteering club. Due to limited availability, fewer than 20% of applicants were selected. Fortunately, teachers believed I was well-suited for the role, and I was thrilled to be reunited with Mrs. C, the teacher who had invested so much in me. As I tutored grammar, math, and spelling, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and fulfillment. I could see my students’ smiles grow as they grasped new concepts—just like I had, years before, under Mrs. C’s guidance. Working with Gabriel, a second grader, on math and reading reminded me of how Mrs. C’s efforts sparked my passion for learning and success. Gabriel taught me that true giving back isn’t about completing tasks but about creating lasting impact. I helped him develop study strategies tailored to his needs, and seeing his progress was a reward in itself. As I transitioned to high school, I committed to embracing new challenges and opportunities. Serving my community has become a source of personal fulfillment, and I’ve made it my mission to enrich the lives of those around me. Though moving across the country during high school was unsettling, I found strength in resilience and perseverance. I was able to adapt quickly, make new friends, and maintain strong academic performance despite the adjustment. Looking back, I no longer see the boy who fell below the 10th percentile. Instead, I see someone who turned early struggles into triumph. I developed an inclusive mindset and learned to recognize hidden struggles in others—struggles that require empathy and attention to overcome. The lessons instilled in me through my elementary school pledge—to act with integrity, produce quality work, love God, love others, and lead a life of service—continue to guide me. Today, I strive to uplift others, encouraging them to grow just as I once grew. This scholarship would provide invaluable support as I pursue my academic and career goals. It would not only ease the financial burden of college but also empower me to focus more on my studies and service initiatives. As I aim to study law and help others overcome challenges, this scholarship will help me continue to grow as both a student and a community member, allowing me to further invest in my future and the futures of those I serve.

I believe the most crucial relationship that needs nurturing between law enforcement and the African American community is that of neighbors and friends. It is a relationship that requires respect and understanding for the gap between these two groups to be mended. This relationship, however, has been strained due to a long history of systemic inequality. While freed from slavery, African Americans have endured a long history of educational discrimination, redlining, and government underfunding, which result in disparate socioeconomic hardships. This has been the result of forcing many African Americans into hard conditions and systemically hindering them in their pursuit of success. The issues appear in such forms as increased rates of poverty, domestic violence, substance abuse, and crime-all of which have contributed to heightened tensions between law enforcement and the community. It is not a consequence of flaws within the African American population but from the consequences of systemic marginalization. This would involve a multi-layered approach-one that encourages connectivity, accountability, and reform. Community events have been some of the most useful in trying to bridge the gap between law enforcement and African American communities. Through neighborhood picnics, youth mentorship programs, or collaborative town halls, shared experiences and open dialogue can be had. When the police are not just perceived as mere enforcers of the law but part of the community in achieving certain ends, trust and understanding can begin to build. Accountability from both sides cannot be removed. The police must make sure law enforcement officers are held accountable for their actions through processes that are transparent, independent review boards, and clearly spell out consequences for misconduct. The community, too, must take equal responsibility for itself through non-violent, peaceful protests and work toward conflict resolution without escalation of tensions. Accountability begins first with education, however, which is why police training reform and cultural competence both remain crucial. It means frequent training for officers on how to address implicit biases and deep-seated learning regarding the history and culture specific to African American communities. It can also help the officers understand the communities better so as not to create conflicts. Increasing diversity within law enforcement is paramount. A police force reflecting the communities they serve will be better equipped to show empathy and, therefore, handle any situation much better. By encouraging individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in law enforcement, we can build better representation and strengthen relationships not only between law enforcement and African American communities, but also across a wide range of groups. In closing, community-police relations will only improve with a combination of efforts in the form of community outreach, accountability, reform of police training, and diversity among the force. We now have the unique position of being able to drive change toward an increasingly fair and just society as we tackle these policies across the board.

The echoing emptiness of the school halls felt lifeless without the joyful noise of elementary students. Sitting on a bench outside my classroom, I wondered what my parents and my second-grade teacher, Mrs. C, were discussing. After what felt like ages, they emerged, and I jumped up, eager to get home for the next episode of Wild Kratts. In my haste, I overlooked the solemn expressions on my parents' faces. Once home, they sat me down at the kitchen table and said, “We need to talk.” I learned that, due to a speech impediment and struggles with reading, I had fallen below the 10th percentile for my age on the IOWA exam. My parents feared I might be held back a year. Determined to catch up, I worked with tutors and spent hours after school practicing. My tutor’s dedication showed me the impact of meaningful actions—efforts that enhance and nurture others’ skills, helping them reach their potential. I remember Mrs. C’s eyes glistening with pride as I gradually caught up with my peers. Luckily, the teachers believed I would be a good fit. I was thrilled to reunite with Mrs. C, who had invested so much time in my development. As I tutored grammar, vocabulary, math, and spelling, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. Each morning, our school recited a pledge emphasizing qualities important for personal growth. Over the semester, I witnessed the knowledge and smiles of my tutees grow—a reflection of the enthusiasm for learning that my tutors had ignited in me. One student, Gabriel, a second grader, reminded me of my own journey. Working with him on math and reading brought back memories of Mrs. C and deepened my understanding of the impact she had on my success. Gabriel taught me that giving back isn’t measured by hours spent but by the lasting effects you create. This became evident as I helped him develop effective, personalized study strategies. Transitioning into high school, I resolved to embrace new opportunities and confront challenges head-on. Serving my community has always been fulfilling. I dedicated my time to a life of service, enriching the experiences of those around me. Moving cross-country during high school was unsettling, but my resilience and willingness to help myself and others proved invaluable. I adapted quickly, made new friends, and maintained my academic progress in a new school environment. Reflecting on my journey, I no longer see the boy who fell below the 10th percentile but a person who transformed feelings of defeat into triumph. I’ve learned to cultivate an inclusive mindset and recognize the hidden struggles that require attention. The values from my elementary school pledge—integrity, quality work, love for oneself and others, and a commitment to service—continue to resonate with me. They inspire me to uplift those in need of encouragement, helping them grow and thrive.

From an early age, I didn’t consider myself particularly athletic. I tried basketball, baseball, soccer, and swimming, but none of these activities felt like a natural fit for me. Eventually, I lost interest in sports and shifted my focus towards my academics and my future by taking up activities like chess, debate, and speech but they could not reflect the competitive feeling of a sport. One day after debate practice, a newcomer named Alex approached me and asked if I played any sports. He was shorter than I was and seemed more secluded than the other kids, so his approach caught me off guard. When I mentioned that I didn’t play any sports because I didn’t feel competent enough, he simply looked at me and said, “If you would be interested in trying something new, meet me at the front of the school after practice tomorrow.” Intrigued, I agreed, unaware that this decision would profoundly influence my high school experience. The following day, I found Alex waiting for me with two tennis rackets. He dedicated the afternoon to teaching me the fundamentals of tennis. I was far from skilled, but Alex remained encouraging. He motivated me to practice daily, and through his patient guidance, I gradually improved. What I didn’t realize at the time was how his faith in me would stick with me in the long run after I transferred to a new school in my sophomore year. When I arrived at my new school, I was eager to create a similar positive influence on others, just as Alex had done for me. I joined both the debate and tennis teams, hoping to forge new friendships and enhance my skills. At my new school, I met Shivem, a fellow member of the debate team of Indian descent. He shared Alex’s reserved nature and seemed hesitant to engage in sports. One day after debate practice, I invited him to play tennis, recalling how Alex had once reached out to me. I explained that tennis wasn’t solely about being the best; it was about showing up, putting in effort, and improving over time. Shivem agreed to give it a shot, and we spent the following weeks practicing together. Witnessing his growing confidence was fulfilling, and I often reflected on how Alex had helped me gain my own confidence in tennis. I made a conscious effort to be inclusive and welcoming to everyone, regardless of their skill level. My experiences taught me that dedication and encouragement could help anyone improve. Alex had believed in me when I struggled to believe in myself, and I aimed to extend that same support to others. Watching Shivem thrive on the court reminded me that sometimes, all it takes is an invitation and a belief in someone’s potential. Inspired by Alex’s kindness, I committed to passing along that encouragement and cherishing the lessons he imparted.

What began as a simple family game-night tradition—rolling dice and moving pieces around the board—soon became a profound lesson in money management and preparedness for life. I was first introduced to Monopoly at the age of five, and from the start, I found joy in the negotiation, competition, and financial success the game offered. What started as a fun introduction to basic economics evolved into a personal journey, inspiring me to think of life itself as my own "monopoly game." This early exposure sparked my passion for understanding how the world of business and finance works. As I grew older, I actively sought ways to deepen my knowledge. I enrolled in courses on accounting, personal finance, and economics, which provided me with a solid foundation in the principles that drive markets and businesses. Eager to apply my learning, I began researching companies and business practices, exploring how they succeed or fail based on their financial strategies. Encouraged by my parents, I started investing at a young age and quickly became fascinated with the complexities of financial markets. One day, while having lunch with a group of friends, we were discussing our future plans and how we hoped to achieve financial success. When I mentioned that my father had introduced me to investing in stocks and companies as a way to gain an edge in the future, I was surprised to learn that none of my friends had started investing. Many had tried, but their parents' explanations left them confused, and they had given up. This conversation sparked the idea for Investment Buddies—a YouTube channel where I could break down the basics of investing for teenagers, providing a simple, step-by-step guide to get started. I worked with my friends to set up their first investment accounts, teaching them the essentials of stock market strategies and long-term financial planning. Over time, I saw them gain more confidence in their ability to manage their money, and I was proud to see them become active investors, preparing more adequately for their futures. It was incredibly rewarding to help my peers bridge the knowledge gap, and it further fueled my desire to make financial literacy accessible to young people everywhere. Looking ahead, I envision myself working in private practice, helping business owners navigate legal challenges related to malpractice, misconduct, and other disputes involving employees, customers, or competitors. With a background in finance, I believe I’ll be uniquely positioned to offer legal counsel that integrates financial strategy and legal expertise. I am excited to further develop my skills in college. Colleges emphasis on leadership, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary learning aligns perfectly with my goals and that is why I believe college is the best step towards my future. I look forward to the opportunity to work with faculty and peers who share my passion for business and law, building a solid foundation for my future career and furthering my ability to help others achieve financial success.
