Dear Members of the Scholarship Committee, I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for considering my application. I am excited to share my journey and the real-life struggles I have faced to pursue my dream of obtaining a degree in Criminal Justice. Growing up in a financially unstable household, I witnessed firsthand the challenges that come with limited resources. Despite the adversities, especially when I nearly loss my life at 13 and had my large intestines removed, I remained determined to break the cycle of hardship and create a better future for myself and my family. Pursuing a higher education in Criminal Justice has always been my aspiration, driven by a deep-seated desire to contribute meaningfully to society and make a positive impact on the lives of others. My journey to higher education has been marked by resilience and perseverance. After I loss my father to stomach cancer when I was 15 I took on additional responsibilities. I faced numerous obstacles, including a lack of access to educational resources and mentorship. However, these challenges only fueled my determination to succeed and motivated me to work harder. Despite the odds stacked against me, I have maintained a strong academic record with a 4.0 gpa and actively participated in community service initiatives such as bringing awareness of mental health challenges. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the power of education and its ability to transform lives. My passion for criminal justice and my commitment to social justice issues drive my academic pursuits and community involvement. I plan on making real changes in the law enforcement community. Starting with police officers being involved with the community getting to know people as individuals, work on communication and to have more understanding about mental health issues that is on the rise. Receiving this scholarship would not only alleviate the financial burden of my education but also provide me with the opportunity to focus wholeheartedly on my studies and extracurricular activities. It would enable me to invest more time in internships, research projects, and community outreach programs, allowing me to gain valuable practical experience in the field of criminal justice. The police force plays a crucial role in the maintenance of law and order in society. It is essential that the police force is well-equipped and well-trained to perform their duties effectively. Here are a few improvements that could be added to the police force to enhance their efficiency. Firstly, the police force needs to be more diverse. It is important that the police force is representative of the communities they serve. This is vital as it helps in building trust and reducing the perception of bias. Therefore, the recruitment process must be restructured to increase the representation of minority groups. This can be done by using targeted outreach to universities, community organizations, and other underrepresented groups to encourage them to apply. Secondly, the police force must adopt modern technology. It is crucial that the police are equipped with the latest technology to help them perform their duties more effectively. The use of body cameras can help in ensuring accountability and transparency. In addition, the use of facial recognition technology can help in identifying suspects more accurately. The use of drones can also be valuable in conducting surveillance and gathering evidence in difficult-to-reach areas. Thirdly, training is key. The police force needs to be trained in a way that is up to date with current best practices. It is important that the training includes a focus on implicit bias, cultural sensitivity, and de-escalation techniques. These aspects help in ensuring that officers are not only effective but also impartial in their duties. Additionally, specialized training modules should be considered for specific areas like cybercrime, domestic violence, and hate crimes. This will allow officers to better handle these unique challenges. Fourthly, community policing should be expanded. Police officers should be encouraged to interact with the community they serve beyond just enforcement. Community policing aims to build trust and collaboration between the police and the community. Engaging with community leaders and organizations, participating in community events, and developing communication channels to share information will help strengthen relationships. Lastly, the police force needs to prioritize mental and emotional wellness. Police work can be physically and mentally taxing. The police force needs to invest in programs to support officer’s mental and emotional health. This could be done by incorporating regular wellness checks, offering access to counseling services, and creating support groups. In conclusion, there are several improvements that can be introduced to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force. These improvements include diversity, modern technology, training, community policing, and prioritizing mental and emotional wellness. Implementing these improvements will help create a more trusted and accountable police force that can better serve the needs of the communities they serve.

Hello my name is Jeremy Hall and I am a junior in High School. I have always wanted to be a police officer. I think most kids are inspired by movies to be some kind of super hero. Real life heros are the ones that come to you when you call 911. Born and raised in Phoenix the 5th largest city in the United States. My local community being Central Phoenix with a very high crime rate. I've lived in areas where they don't even deliver pizza. I'm going to be the officer where people will see a friendly face, feel comfortable to confront and talk to. This alone can prevent many crimes from ever even happening. I want kids to know that they're being protected and feel safe. Just changing the negative thoughts will have a big impact on my community. I am the first person in my family that has never done drugs, been arrested or has a criminal record. I have even inspired my peers to do better. Last year I lost my father to stag 4 Stomach cancer unexpectedly. So financially things have been difficult. This scholarship is a blessing to whomever receives it. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to apply. Jeremy Hall

ARFID ? Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. I know... Still sounds strange to me. When it comes to eating disorder I bet this one didn't pop up. It's comforting to know that there's a name for the way I have been eating my whole life. So many things revolves around food. This is extremely stressful. I'm labeled as picky eater kid. School lunches, family gatherings and holidays are hard. I'm currently seeing nutritionist and dietitian to help me gain weight. Many people think that it's no big deal "Just eat a hamburger " they say. I really wish I could. This is why every week I go to therapy. Three years ago I had to be rushed to the hospital because my intestines twisted up and pushed my stomach over. I was in surgery for five hours. They did a mal-rotation and removed the first part of my large intestines. I thought maybe my eating habits would improve. That did not happen. I am 16 Junior High School male weighing 95 lb. Last year my Dad passed away to stage 4 stomach cancer unexpectedly. I watched him wither away down to 85 lb. This scares me. My weight has affected many different aspects of my life. I avoid swimming, going to the lake and wearing shorts because of my thin legs. I wear a pull over sweater every day even if it's 114 degrees outside, which is common in Arizona. Going out to restaurants to try new foods is difficult. I would love to join sports and be part of the ROTC program. I now attend a private school that is flexible with me and my eating schedule. I was going to drop out of school with all the issues I went through. Seeing my Dad do chemo and wear an ileostomy bag taught me that it can always get worse, so never give up. My goal is to be a police officer when I become an adult. After I gain 20 lbs I will be accepted into the cadet program of law enforcement. I have to graduate high school and then study to get a degree in criminal justice. Everyday is a hill to climb and I think about how courageous my Dad was when he did treatment. This gives me strength. I want to bring awareness to this not so recognized eating disorder it seems to be overlooked and misdiagnosed.

My plans for college is to have a degree in law enforcement and criminal justice. Being a police officer and making a difference in my community is my future. To obtain this dream I must gain weight. This is challenging due to my strange and awkward eating habits that I currently in treatment for. One pound increase a week until I reach 20lbs. In one year I will be a cadet police officer for the city. Once I am an adult is when I will be in the law enforcement field. I plan to always be in school learning forensic Science and criminal justice. New laws are always being passed and new technology is always coming out to solve cases.
