From the time I was born to where I am now, music has constantly surrounded me. I have been passionate about it for as long as I can remember. In my younger years, I wanted to become a composer, but as I grew older, that dream began to fade. I began to recognize that one needs to be extremely well-versed in music just to make a small living. During my first years of high school, I struggled to find another passion I could dedicate my life to. Gradually, the idea of composing came back to me, but not in the same way. I remembered attempting to make electronic music using software and how rewarding it was, so I decided to revisit it. Since then, I have become extremely passionate about music production. I hope to pursue multiple routes, whether that means film scoring, recording engineering, or potentially becoming an independent artist. Coming into these next few years, utilizing a college degree to gain experience, make new connections, and broaden my horizons, are my main intentions. As I have out the hard way, you can only learn so much online. The aspect of having mentorship from knowledgeable professionals and hands-on college experience will offer the training and expertise necessary to create music exactly as I hear it in my mind. The connections I make in the music community are just as important, as they could lead to potential job offers. Pursuing this dream does come at a cost; most quality college music production programs are not cheap. This scholarship would allow me to start my post-college journey without a heavy financial burden weighing me down. Making a living in music takes time and patience, and an enormous loan would hinder my ability to fulfill this career path. Apart from simply enjoying and creating music, I have spent almost my entire life learning and practicing multiple instruments. On the piano, I regularly play in recitals and competitions, performing a variety of Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern literature. On the violin, I perform in recitals and string groups, and I am a member of the Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, I am first chair trumpet in my high school band, consistently play piano for my church worship services, and have performed at numerous weddings. While most of my friends played sports, I committed solely to music, frequently sacrificing social time and fun activities to practice. I understand that music, like many things in life, requires practice, effort, time, and dedication to achieve success. Music is also very rewarding to me. I am rarely paid for musical events, but the joy and appreciation from others when I share my abilities with the community tops any amount of money. Using my talents to lift others up is extremely important and remains my primary goal. In music production, those motivated solely by money often pump out generic compositions with no character. Because money is not my motivation, my intention is to bring the best possible experience to the listener by crafting a unique sound and putting my full effort into each work I create. I am excited for the opportunity to share my story, work, and aspirations during my college journey. I hope to contribute to the college community while continuing to grow as a student and as a person, bringing the gift of music with me to everyone I meet.
