After completing my its completion, I embarked on a transformative 9-week volunteer trip through my school to Kolkata, India. Unbeknownst to me, I signed up to serve as a 'nursing assistant' in the Mother Teresa homes for women and children (Shanti Dan) and the home for the dying (Kalighat). Despite the monsoonal weather, I discovered an unexpected sense of purpose that ignited a profound passion within me. This experience, set against the backdrop of challenging circumstances, marked a turning point that would shape my future. Upon returning home, I found myself in a coffee shop, meticulously planning how to transition into a field that had captured my heart during my time in Kolkata. Nursing had become not just a profession but my passion and life's purpose. This journey, coupled with my unwavering commitment, dedication, and desire to challenge myself, is further evidenced by my ability to climb Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the United States. My journey toward nursing excellence continued with active participation in the Student Nurses’ Association where I took on the role of Social Chair and successfully fostered a sense of community, support, and collaboration among my peers. Additionally, I assisted in facilitating the inaugural nursing symposium on ethics at CSU Channel Islands, which is in the process of being published. This serves as a testament to my commitment to staying informed and contributing to the field of nursing. My role as a Student Nurse in the medication administration and care of pediatric oncology patients at Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, and my preceptorship in the Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles only solidified my desire to pursue pediatrics. If I was awarded this generous grant towards my student loans, I could finally breathe. Pursuing a second degree has been tremendously financially straining. However, I know it will be worth it. My parents have endlessly supported me throughout my journey and I look forward to repaying them one day.
