My mom has always been a source of inspiration to me. I don't know how she does it. Ever since I was little, she’s cared for me and my twin sister despite being a single mom. She has worked endlessly so that I could have a better future than her. She never had the chance to go to college so I’m a first-generation student. Additionally, I come from a low-income family so all we have now has come from all the sacrifice my mom has put in. Although she had two jobs, she always attended my school functions. I'm forever grateful for that because it drove me to continue pushing forward with my academics. I’ve always strived to be a top student earning good grades and awards. Her proud face made me think it was all worth it. She’s been by my side this whole journey.
As a high school student, I’ve been involved in the Klein Forest Orchestra. There have been countless rehearsals and events that I’ve had to attend. And, guess what? My mom’s been the one that’s taken me to every single one. My schedule has always been full and busy but she’s invested so much time for me so that I can succeed. In addition, ever since I was younger, I desired to become a teacher. During my childhood, I experienced the best elementary years I could ask for. My mom and my teachers were so devoted to my education and they inspired me to want to be a teacher one day. Many people don’t think teachers are important. I believe that they are often underappreciated. Knowing this, I still told my mom about my dream career. She’s done nothing but support me. She said the world needs good teachers. I have had many people tell me “Teachers don’t get paid well”, or “Being a teacher is too much work”. Even though that may be true, I really want to be a teacher and my mom made me feel that it’s a dream I can achieve.
In conclusion, I plan to go to college to major in education. Throughout the years, my family has gone through financial hardship making it difficult to pay for expenses. Going to college won’t be easy since I won’t be able to rely on anyone to pay for my college education. I can only hope and work hard which is what she’s taught me. I want to pay it forward by showing my mom that her sacrifices are worth it. By becoming a teacher, I would also be positively impacting children’s lives just as how my mom and teachers did to mine.
