I am a mother of two boys, I had big dreams of pursing a law degree or even becoming a forensic psychologist, however life happened. I married and the military moved us from Texas to North Carolina, after the military, life once again happened. Finding a steady career became priority and then we had a baby. During this time, my dreams were put on the backburner, so to speak, to make sure that our child didn't lack any necessities since we had very limited family to rely on. Both my parents are gone and my in-laws were hours away. Making sure his needs were met became the priority, we now have 2 children and while there needs remain our top priority, I have dreams I'd like to make a reality.
Returning to school and obtaining my Master's in Public Administration, while not what I had dreamed of as an undergraduate, I know this degree will help me make a difference in my current profession. This graduate degree will also help me show my boys that no matter what obstacles are in the way or how old you are, it's never to late to set, pursue and achieve a goal. My husband and I continue to be good role models for our children and hope that our hard work and determination to pursue goals will be etched into their minds and lives for as long as they live.
My hope is that by obtaining this graduate degree, I will have the opportunity to move up within my agency and modernize and make the needed changes the juvenile system I currently work in desperately needs.
