Coming from Haitian descent, I’ve learned that everything in life must be earned. My great-grandfather was industrious, owning acres of land and building multiple mansions. My grandfather and his wife had five children. The oldest, my grandmother, stopped attending school to care for her younger brothers due to my great-grandparent’s heavy work habits. One of my uncles moved to the U.S. to pursue the American Dream. He saved enough money to bring his siblings along. Though adjusting to life in America and learning English was difficult, they persevered. If it weren’t for them, my family wouldn’t have the life we do now, and I'm so greatful Similar to my great-grandfather's leadership traits, I've served as a junior coach for the Tamarac Cougars cheerleaders for the past four years. Through this role, I’ve mentored young athletes, teaching them valuable life skills such as teamwork and perseverance. Volunteering in this way has reinforced my belief in the power of service. To add on, I was the 2024-2025 North Broward Chapter gems President, helping lead girls my age in the right direction helping out mentors teach them about financial literacy and helping conduct fundraisers for better causes. The passing of my paternal grandmother from bone cancer deeply impacted me and strengthened my desire to enter the nursing field. Her struggle with quality care highlighted the need for effective nursing. This experience has fueled my passion for improving healthcare, ensuring it is accessible and efficient, especially for minority populations. This experience opened my eyes to the critical importance of effective nursing. I saw firsthand how the lack of resources and proper management can negatively affect patient care. It made me realize that there is a significant need for improvement in the healthcare system, especially for vulnerable and underserved populations. My goal is to improve the healthcare system by ensuring it is accessible and efficient for everyone. I want to make a difference in the way healthcare is taken into consideration, so that no one has to go through what my grandmother did. I am particularly passionate about making sure that underserved communities receive the care they need and deserve. How I plan to actively engage with communities is to advocate for change and contribute to the ongoing fight for social justice and unique challenges faced by minority communities in accessing quality healthcare. This perspective drives my commitment to making a meaningful difference. I plan on starting my journey of making a difference this fall as i attend Florida Agricultural And Mechanical University on the pre nursing track. In conclusion, my commitment to community service, leadership, and academic success is driven by a desire to make a positive impact. As I continue toward higher education, I look forward to contributing to my community and making a difference in others’ lives. By becoming a NICU Nurse, I aim to honor my grandmother’s legacy and ensure others receive the care they deserve.Receiving this scholarship would greatly assist me in achieving my educational goals. It would help cover the costs of tuition, books, and other expenses, allowing me to focus on my studies and my mission to improve the nursing field. I would be the first generation to attend college which is a really big thing for my family and I. Thank you for considering my application. I am determined to make a positive impact in the healthcare field, and I am grateful for any support that can help me achieve this goal.

      Rosa A. Wilson Scholarship
My name is Je’Nai Desravines, and I am a rising high school senior with a GPA of 3.9. I am applying for this scholarship to support my dream of pursuing a major in Nursing. I’ve always known I wanted to be in the medical field, but I was unsure of the exact path I wanted to take. The passing of my paternal grandmother from bone cancer, however, deeply impacted me and solidified my resolve to enter the field of health administration. Watching my grandmother struggle with her illness was incredibly difficult. It was not just the pain she endured, but also the challenges she faced in receiving adequate care due to resource limitations. This experience opened my eyes to the critical importance of effective nursing. I saw firsthand how the lack of resources and proper management can negatively affect patient care. It made me realize that there is a significant need for improvement in the healthcare system, especially for vulnerable and underserved populations. My goal is to improve the healthcare system, ensuring it is accessible and efficient for everyone. I want to make a difference in the way healthcare is took it to consideration, so that no one has to go through what my grandmother did. I am particularly passionate about making sure that underserved communities receive the care they need and deserve. How I plan to actively engage with communities, advocate for change, and contribute to the ongoing fight for social justice and equity is to be a positive remodel for the youth. Giving them an example of hard work, showing them that I may not be the best person but I try my best. Everything may not be perfect, but it’s not the picture that matters, it’s the drawing behind it. As a Black woman, I understand the unique challenges faced by minority communities in accessing quality healthcare. This perspective drives my commitment to making a meaningful difference. I believe that with the right education and determination, I can help create a more equitable healthcare system. I plan to attend Florida A & M University.
