My freshman year in high school not only taught me so much about myself, but it taught me quite a bit about life in general. I was recruited to attend St. Albans School, a prestigious all boys private school in Washington, DC, to play basketball. I was coming from virtual learning during COVID-19 in middle school when I started ninth grade at St. Albans. I learned that I am not only mentally strong, but I can fight through adversity in the classroom and on the basketball court. When I started high school, I thought I was strong in all subjects, but I ended up not being as advanced in some courses as I initially thought.
My ninth-grade year taught me quite a bit about my preferred learning style. For example, I took notes and always reviewed them after class or even watched videos a few times to absorb the information. I learned that I am a visual, audio and active learner. It is important for me to review information from the classroom and repeat plays on the basketball court to thoroughly absorb the details. The best way for me to perfect a basketball move is to watch someone do the move, and then practice the move with a trainer or another skilled player.
It will be very important for me to learn as many technical skills in college as a computer science major, so that I can utilize my specific technological skills in order to assist other young people in the field. I plan to give back to society by mentoring other young black males who are interested in pursuing degrees in computer science. My plan is to coordinate with programs that encourage and help to develop young men into successful Information Technology professionals. I feel as though if I am provided the opportunity to learn computer science and information technology, then I want to be able to help bring young African American males who are younger than me along for their development and enrichment. It is so important that my success in the technology industry does not just remain with me. Pulling others up with me as I continue to learn and develop as a computer science major and eventually becoming an information technology professional is very important to me.
I believe that individual success is commendable, but providing opportunities for others to be successful is more important and impactful. Therefore, when I make strides in the technology industry, I plan to ensure that others who are younger than me have similar opportunities to excel in the technology field as well. Sometimes it is a matter of making sure that others have the opportunity to pursue their career goals, because individual success is a good thing, but sharing that success with others is so much more satisfying. I do feel comfortable only focusing on my individual goals, because I believe that supporting other young men while I pursue my career aspirations will be more important.
I plan to continue to grow as an individual because I am pursuing my academic and athlete goals and dreams. I plan to major in computer science in college, which I plan to use to help others by showing that student athletes can balance a challenging major while playing collegiate basketball. On and off the court I do my best to show leadership and be a role model for the younger student athletes on my varsity basketball team. Securing this scholarship would allow me to continue to pursue my goals in college.

Earning scholarships is an essential goal for me, because in order for me to be able to pursue my goals to become a computer science major while playing collegiate basketball, I need the financial support. Having the necessary funding to be able to successfully complete my studies will provide me with a special opportunity. I hope to be able to study and play basketball at the collegiate level.

Community service has been something that I have been involved in during my time in middle and high school. There were several opportunities where I served food to the homeless or I gathered food and supplies for those in need. There were several opportunities to serve in high school, and I enjoyed knowing that my ability to help others was going to be appreciated. I also served in any capacity that I could at my high school during some of the basketball tournaments that my school hosted for younger players. I helped to sell tickets or helped by being a referee for some of the games.
It will be very important for me to learn as many technical skills in college as a computer science major, so that I can utilize my specific technological skills in order to assist other young people in the field. I plan to give back to society by mentoring other young black males and females who are interested in pursuing degrees in computer science. My plan is to coordinate with programs that encourage and help to develop young men into successful Information Technology professionals. I feel as though if I am provided the opportunity to learn computer science and information technology, then I want to be able to help bring young African American males and females who are younger than me along for their development and enrichment.
However, in order for me to be able to pursue my dream of becoming a computer science degree holder, I will need considerable financial support. Unfortunately, the cost of pursuing a college degree is so expensive, and my parents cannot afford to send me to college without some financial aid or scholarship support. Therefore, I am working very hard to apply to as many scholarship opportunities as possible in order to hopefully secure funding for my dream to attend a four-year university.

Once I have my degree in computer science, my goal is to give back to younger high school students so that they can pursue their dreams for higher education and pursuing degrees within the technology field. I want to make sure that as I succeed that I continue to give back to members of my community. Having a positive impact on other young African American males and females so that they can successfully pursue their dreams is of the utmost importance to me.

I also want to make sure that young people are able to remain safe as they spend time online. Cyberbullying is a very serious situation so I plan to help children remain safe while using their mobile devices and/or spending time online on their computers. I would provide them with tips on how to protect themselves from others while they spend time online. People may think that cyberbullying is not a credible threat or concern, but it is probably more dangerous than in-person bullying that can happen in schools. One way that I would plan to help children protect themselves from cyberbullying is by making sure that their parents or other trusted adults are aware of their online activities.
In terms of helping to protect children from in-person bullying it will most likely be a little more challenging, because I would not be able to shadow them in school. However, I would suggest to a child who is experiencing bullying in school to reach out to a trusted adult who can hopefully provide support to that child from the bullying.

My mother has worked in the energy field for more than 15 years of her career, and she has shared with me how important it is. For example, there is so much of our everyday lives that involves or is dependent upon energy. She has inspired me to learn about how we can find alternative ways to power some of the things that we use all of the time. I have always been very fascinated by cars. so my interest in studying alternative fuels for powering vehicles. I would love to study ways that vehicles could be powered by a source of energy that goes beyond gasoline or electric power. My plan is to establish some alternative fuel options for uniquely designed vehicles that will be kind to the environment.
Studying efficient and environmentally-friendly fuel sources for specially designed vehicles will be exciting for me, because I have always had an interest in cars and protecting the environment at the same time. My mother's work in the energy field has inspired me to pursue a career that involves energy. It may take quite a bit of research and work to try to figure out alternative fuel options for vehicles, but I am willing to work in order to achieve my goals.
I believe that when I am able to achieve my goal of developing alternative fuel sources for vehicles, it will be better for the environment and for the many car drivers. My contribution to the energy industry will be a better way to power cars other than just by gasoline or electric power. This would allow consumers another way to power their vehicles.
