My values of wanting to succeed in college are very important to me. Studying long hours, creating new friendships, and joining organizations can all be things that can help me. Although I want to study Software Engineering, it will be challenging, and I need to be disciplined to earn my degree. Mississippi State University will develop me to have a job after graduation. The thought of pursuing a Software Engineering degree stems from my wanting to change the way the state of Mississippi is viewed. The reason why I say this is because I live in the poorest state in America. The state where we have the highest obesity rate in the nation. The state where we have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. The state where in terms of completing high school, is dead last among others. The state needs a lot of uplifting and money to come to fix the problems that we have now. The only problem is, there is no uplifter. No one wants to come back and help the state that sometimes cannot even provide running water for people. An uplifter means a person who is engaged in or devoted to social or moral impact. Uplifters can range from anyone as long as they are devoted to the task; this is where I come in. I want to work for a company that can help out the state, and brings more tech jobs to Mississippi. Also, it would be helpful to teach students, who live in underfunded areas of the state, about computer science so they could pursue a STEM degree in the future. Once more people learn more about computer science, it can bring more tech jobs to the area and raise the economic quality of the state. Although this may be a dream, if someone could envision the dream I have for the state, then I can have the ability to change the problems that plague the state today. The idea of helping Mississippi has a chance of being at a standstill in the next thirty years, but this envisionment can happen. A nineteen-year-old kid out of Brandon, Mississippi, who has done Cross Country, News Team, and Esports, and has learned the coding languages of Python, Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and more, can help so many people change their lives. My life has so many people telling me I could not do something that I am passionate about, but when I was given the talents of math, science, technology, and STEM, I will not use these talents lightly. I will use my talents to the best of my ability so I can let more people have the opportunity to succeed in life. The degree I’m pursuing will be difficult, but as long as I try my best to study and let other people help me, I will be fine. Mississippi State University will be the place where I can let my dreams come to reality, and if anybody else can believe in me, I will not let them down.

While I was growing up, I was always brilliant at math and science. These skills led me to pursue something in STEM, specifically engineering. In the eleventh grade of high school, my physics teacher made everyone do a coding project. This made me realize how interested I was in programming. All of my past experiences led me to conclude that I wanted to pursue Software Engineering in college. The thought of pursuing a Software Engineering degree stems from my desire to change the way the state of Mississippi is viewed. I want to change Mississippi because it's the poorest state in America. The state where we have the highest obesity rate in the nation The state where we have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country The state where, in terms of completing high school, students are dead last among others The state needs a lot of encouragement and money to fix the problems that we have now. The only problem is that there is no uplifter. No one wants to come back and help the state, which sometimes cannot even provide running water for people. An uplifter is a person who is engaged in or devoted to social or moral impact. Uplifters can be anyone as long as they are devoted to the task; this is where I come in. The degree I’m pursuing will be difficult, but as long as I try my best to study and let other people help me, I will be fine. Mississippi State University will be the place where I can make my dreams a reality.

An eighteen-year-old kid out of Brandon, Mississippi, who does Cross Country, News Team, and Esports, and has learned the coding languages of Python, Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and more, can help so many people change their lives. Although I want to study Software Engineering, it will be challenging, and I need to be disciplined to earn my degree. Mississippi State University will develop me to have a job after graduation. Thousands of students are worthy of scholarships. They could have done hundreds of hours of community service or had multiple awards with excellent grades. Although I have outstanding grades, I also have taken some of the hardest courses my school offers. Classes such as AP Physics or AP Calculus prepare me for the hardships that will come in college. When I take multiple college classes that challenge me, including STEM classes, it will be difficult to weigh all of the courses at the same time. For me, it requires discipline and effort to excel in all college courses someone will take. When I was in seventh grade, I was not doing decent enough in my English course like the other students in my class. I had to do a presentation that year that I went over many times to hopefully do well on. When I presented it to the class, I made a 100 and learned a valuable lesson that as long as someone tries their best, they will succeed. For what I want to do with my life, majoring in Software Engineering and attending Mississippi State University will require the ability to try as hard as I can to succeed with the goal I set for myself. Eight months from now I am going to walk up to the podium to receive my high school diploma. Nobody can get into college without a high school diploma because this will credit someone for passing all twelve years of school. Four years from now, I want to walk up on the podium again except this time, I want to do it at Mississippi State University. I can smile, wave, and watch everyone clap and cheer for me, including my parents, to see them rally for me while finishing college. The transition from college to the workforce will be brutal, but I know during the process that I will be ready because Mississippi State University provides internships and college fairs so I get to meet with recruiters who are looking for Engineering students like me to make an impact in their company. The road from an entry-level job to the dream job will take around five to ten years, but with enough experience, I can earn a six-figure job, luxurious vacations, and the ability to work from home. Although people would be happy at this point in their lives, this is the typical place to stop. Not me though. I want to one day walk up to my boss and have a conversation about how the company I am working for can make an impact in Mississippi. In the Mississippi Delta, as north as Tunica, MS to the south of Vicksburg, MS, I want to bring one of the subsets of the company to the Delta. The subset of the company will be just more than writing code and building applications, I will go to the Mississippi Delta schools and bring coding time inside the classroom. We can teach young, underfunded, and underprivileged children the love of writing code. Once they learn the fundamentals of coding, they will want to pursue it in college. Once the students earn a degree in Engineering in college, this will earn them the opportunity to have a job in tech, leading them to have amazing pay, which will lead them to help their parents and maybe teach others how to code too. The reason for teaching children to write code in the Mississippi Delta can lead to the impact of kids earning a good well paying job, which then can equip Mississippi entirely. Leading more Software Engineers for the future will be needed thirty years from now. The idea of helping Mississippi has a chance of being at a standstill in the next thirty years, but this envisionment can happen. An eighteen-year-old kid out of Brandon, Mississippi, who does Cross Country, News Team, Esports, and has learned the coding languages of Python, Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and more, can help so many people change their lives. Software Engineering is more than just money, vacations, and the ability to work from home, it’s the chance to uplift the state that I call home. Welcome to Mississippi everyone, we will be happy to accept you the way you are.
