Bio

My passions are always growing and include insatiable learning, social justice, and evidence-based lifestyle. A project is in the works to create an organization that helps those involved inside the justice machine become lifestyle ambassadors for the communities they serve and in turn holistically heal the systemic causes of addiction and risky behavior: solve recidivism and the generational cycles of trauma which lead to justice involvement.

Before dad's cancer, I didn't know that was a question worth asking. Didn't know I was worthy of having a long or healthy life. "Research" was attempted in the years after his diagnosis but it wasn't until shortly before his death that I started applying what I was learning to myself. With death brings life. I put research in quotes for a reason. As you know, we live in an age of information saturation and profiteering as a result. It's difficult enough to find truthful information yet my own natural biases can be an enemy of truth. After being taught how to look for proper research citations by a gifted chemist and armed with the gift of awareness of my own ignorance, I had new eyes and wisdom to seek knowledge. There are over 30,000 health books available on Amazon. A few of them are reliable. I stumbled into lifestyle medicine for a reason, though, because coincidence is God's way of staying anonymous. (Thanks Einstein.) I learned that Hippocrates' was right in advising, "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." An evidence-based lifestyle was the new standard for me with a drastic shift in how I lived. It wasn't an easy shift. A whole-food, plant-based diet is the new standard for me, though. 60lbs lost and kept off for five years. I will never fully phase out meat because celebrations come seldom and should be enjoyed with all the trappings. But I'm in it for the long haul -- to finally be a man of consequence for those I love. And hopefully to consequentially influence those I love to choose long life packed with an ever-increasing baseline for happiness. This is the legacy I want: a life that will keep giving long after I'm gone.
