Bio

I am an undergraduate pursuing a BFA in Digital Art and Animation at DigiPen Institute of Technology. My goal in life is to pursue a career that I'm passionate about and let my work be something that inspires others in the same way that my life was inspired. As a trans Southeast Asian person, I never really got much representation. I want to normalize representation in media, I want queer people of color to feel seen and feel represented in a normal way, to be able to see themselves in the characters they love and love who they are, be proud of who they are. By pursuing my degree, I am opening the opportunity to make these changes happen. I've always been the type of person to "live in my head," creating entire fantasies and worlds. The best thing about art is anything is possible. I've been inspired by other's people art; it's been the light that's guided me in some of my darkest times. Although it may seem trivial to others, I know how important art is for some people and I want to dedicate my life to creating art that helps people in the same way it did for me.

My dream for my life is to work in the career I'm passionate about, art, I want to make media, be it cartoons, animations, games, etc. that represents minorities like myself, who so often lack representation, while also inspiring others. I want my work to be a positive light people look forward to in a sometimes-mundane life and make them proud of who they are through representation. I want to create characters for people to cheer on and resonate with, fantastical worlds to explore, stories to be hooked on, real life has limitations, but art's only limitation is one's imagination.

Ever since I was young, I have loved art. I drew all the time, my family knew how much I loved art, I got my fair share of $20 art kits for birthdays and Christmases, definitely more than needed or wanted. In 1st grade I made a painting for my school’s art reflection contest that made it all the way to the county. In 3rd grade, my uncle, who was in art school at the time, gave me a DS game called Art Academy. I learned the basics of art through this game at a young age. Although I had always enjoyed drawing, it wasn’t until 7th grade when I dived headfirst into art and knew it was my passion, what I wanted to spend my life doing. In 7th grade I moved from California to Washington. I had moved a lot in my life before, but this was the first time I was moving away from all my family. Growing up in a family of immigrants, I had always been close with my family, but now I had to leave all of them behind. It was a difficult time for me, I felt alone, I missed my family and friends, but because of this, I directed all my time into art. It got me through one of the lowest points in my life. Art was the light that guided me through the dark. Something as simple as looking forward to the next episode of a cartoon was enough to get me through the week. Seeing other people’s work being brought to life on the screen inspired me and brought me joy. It made me want to be able to do the same thing. I wanted to create work that would inspire people like it did for me. I knew it was the right path for me because in all the art classes I took, it never really felt like work, I was just doing something I enjoyed. I could spend hours upon hours working on art, I have spent countless hours working on a piece, I lose myself in it. I want to go into this field because I want a job that I’ll enjoy doing, something that feels meaningful. I want to create and inspire others through my work, and I think this is the perfect field for that.
