Have you ever wanted to achieve your goal so badly but weren’t sure what steps to accomplish it? I once had that same problem too before I understood some of the steps that I needed to take to help soon accomplish it. My name is Jazmin Buford and I’m from St Louis, Missouri and I currently live in the City of Florissant. I am currently a Junior and attend Hazelwood West High School and North Tech for Health Science and I’m on the track of wanting to finish up school to graduate. My current hobbies are painting, drawing, and writing I see all three of those as an outlet to be able to express myself freely without anyone else having a say so in how I chose to do it. My hobbies while in school were being apart of community service and the TUF program (Girl Scouts Organization), in the community service group I helped around my school and community. In the TUF program, we went around neighboring elementary schools to teach kids a lesson and read to them about certain topics and we were seen as role models to them and to set a good example. I loved the time I spent there because I love kids and it felt good to see the impact that I had on some of their lives and how some students missed us when we came back to our visits and loved the lesson we taught them. But that’s mostly what I do in my free time and in and out of school, my dream is to become a pharmacist. My other dream I would also love to accomplish is to be able to attend a historically black college or university because I love how all of them showcase black excellence and want their students to be great, and the environment and the campuses. My overall goal for when I finish High School is to become successful in college and graduate with a degree in pharmacy to be able to become a successful pharmacist. But the steps that I have taken so far are applying to programs that have what I’m interested in such as the Best program, and other pharmacy programs in the St. Louis metropolitan area that they have to offer. I also maintain my grades in school and set a goal for myself to keep them at an A-B range and try to keep my GPA at a 3.0 average. I also apply to scholarships to be able to help fund myself for college so I can have savings put away so most of my expenses would be paid for so my parents wouldn’t have to help as much. I say that because I know that college is expensive and if I just put in the extra work like applying to scholarships I can help them out just a little more. I always push myself to want to do better to become successful because I know nothing in life is just handed to you especially as a young black woman we have to work twice as hard for the opportunities or goals that we want to achieve. I believe that with a little hope and whatever goal that chose to set your mind to in life that if you work hard for it or something that you want that it’ll come to you in the long run and you'll be rewarded for all your hard work.
