Choosing a trade career has felt natural for me because I’ve always loved working with my hands and seeing real results from my effort. I was first inspired to pursue a vocational path when I realized how much satisfaction I get from building, fixing, and learning practical skills that matter in everyday life. Welding especially stood out to me because it combines focus, creativity, and strength. I enjoy the feeling of turning raw materials into something solid and useful, and I like knowing that welders help build the structures, vehicles, and equipment that keep our communities running.
Along my journey, I’ve faced obstacles that tested my confidence. At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d be taken seriously in a trade field, and I worried about whether I’d be good enough. I also didn’t have many people around me who worked in skilled trades, so I had to learn a lot on my own—what certifications matter, what safety standards look like, and what the environment in a shop is actually like. Instead of letting those things hold me back, I pushed myself to ask questions, take every learning opportunity I could, and practice consistently. The more I learned, the more confident I became. Each challenge helped me see that I’m capable of growing and improving when I stay committed.
My goals are to become a skilled welder, earn my certifications, and build a career where I can support myself and continue advancing in the trade. I’m passionate about welding because it’s hands-on, practical, and creative. It takes patience and precision, but it also gives you freedom to develop your own style. Skilled work matters because it keeps everything in society functioning—bridges, buildings, pipelines, transportation, and manufacturing all depend on people who know what they’re doing. I want to be one of those people who contributes something real and lasting.
This scholarship would make a huge difference in my journey. It would help me afford the equipment, training, and classes I need to continue learning and improving my skills. It would also take some financial stress off my shoulders so I can stay focused on school and hands-on practice. With this support, I’d be able to keep moving toward my goals with confidence and pride.
I’m proud of the path I’m on because it reflects who I am: hardworking, determined, and willing to learn. Pursuing a trade has shown me that success isn’t just about following the usual route—it’s about finding the path that fits you and giving it everything you have.

Uniball's Skilled Trades Scholarship
I am pursuing a career in welding because I love working with my hands, solving problems, and creating something solid and useful out of nothing but metal and heat. Welding allows me to focus, be precise, and push myself to learn new skills every day. I enjoy the challenge of getting a perfect bead and the satisfaction of knowing my work will support real structures, machines, or equipment that people rely on. Welding also feels like a trade where I can grow, stay active, and always improve, which motivates me to keep learning.
After completing my welding education, I plan to earn certifications, build experience, and eventually secure a stable full-time position in the field. I want to master different types of welding so I can work in a variety of environments—whether that’s manufacturing, fabrication, or working on bigger projects. Long term, I hope to become the kind of welder people can depend on for strong workmanship and responsibility. I also want to gain enough experience to help out younger welders one day, just like others have supported me.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was staying focused on my goals while balancing school, responsibilities, and the pressure of figuring out my future. There were times when it felt overwhelming, and it would have been easy to give up or choose an easier path. Instead, I pushed myself to stay consistent, ask for help when I needed it, and remind myself why I’m working so hard. I leaned on the people who support me—my friends, my family, and the people who believe in me—and that helped me stay motivated.
What really helped me overcome this adversity was learning to break things down into smaller steps and celebrating my progress instead of worrying about everything at once. I learned that I’m capable of staying committed even when things get tough. That experience showed me that I can handle challenges directly, and it made me even more determined to build a future I’m proud of. Welding gives me that chance, and I’m ready to keep moving forward.
I also think about my nieces and nephews, who look up to me more than they know. They inspire me to stay focused and work for a better future. Overcoming that adversity taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of believing in myself even on the tough days. It made me more determined to succeed in welding and build a future I can be proud of.
John Geremia Memorial Industrial Trades Scholarship
I am a hardworking student who is focused on building a future in the trades because I enjoy hands-on work and being part of a team that gets real results. I have applied to a lineman training program and plan to continue developing my skills so I can eventually work as a journeyman lineman. I’m motivated by the idea of doing work that keeps communities connected and supported. My goal is to build a stable career where I can grow, learn, and take pride in the work I do every day. In any trade, especially one like being a lineman, teamwork and leadership are key to getting the job done safely and correctly. One moment that taught me a lot about stepping up as a leader happened during a group project in school. We were assigned to build a small model structure that had to hold weight, and everyone in the group had different opinions about how to start. People were frustrated, and nothing was getting done, so I decided to take initiative. I suggested we step back, divide the tasks, and agree on one design before rushing into building. Even though I wasn’t “in charge,” the group listened because they wanted to move forward.
Once we had a plan, I helped everyone figure out what role fit them best—some worked on measurements, others cut materials, and I focused on making sure everything stayed organized and safe. This approach helped us finish on time, and our project ended up being one of the strongest in the class. That experience showed me that leadership isn’t about bossing people around; it’s about noticing when the team needs direction, communicating clearly, and making sure everyone feels included. Those skills matter in any trade, especially in high-risk environments where clear decisions and communication are essential.
Looking back, there are still things I would do differently. At first, I jumped too quickly into trying to fix the situation instead of listening more deeply to everyone’s concerns. With hindsight, I understand that stronger leadership comes from patience, not just action. Next time, I would let everyone talk through their ideas before suggesting a plan. This would help the team feel more supported and create an even better outcome.
Overall, that experience helped me understand how leadership, teamwork, and responsibility play a role in moving from apprentice to expert in any trade. It’s a plan to carry

Lynn Welding Next Generation in Welding Scholarship
Choosing a career path in welding feels natural to me because I’ve always been drawn to hands-on work. I like being active, solving problems, and creating things I can actually see and be proud of. Welding gives me the chance to do all of that. I enjoy the challenge of learning different techniques, paying attention to detail, and pushing myself to get better with every project. The more I learned about the field, the more I realized it fits who I am—someone who likes to work hard, stay focused, and use my skills to build things that matter.
I’m also motivated by the stability and opportunity welding offers. It’s a career where skilled workers are in high demand, and there’s room to grow into specialized areas like fabrication, pipe welding, or even underwater welding. Knowing I’m choosing a field where I can build a strong future for myself gives me confidence and excitement for what’s ahead.
I believe welding plays an important role in today’s society because it’s behind almost everything we depend on. Welders help build bridges, buildings, pipelines, vehicles, and equipment. Without welding, our communities wouldn’t have the infrastructure we rely on every day. Even as technology grows, welders continue to be essential because machines can’t replace the precision, creativity, and decision-making that skilled workers provide.
Welding also helps drive progress. From renewable energy projects to modern transportation and manufacturing, welders help turn ideas into real structures and solutions. Being part of a field that literally builds the world around us makes me feel like I’m contributing to something bigger than myself.
Overall, welding is more than just a job to me it’s a path that lines up with my interests, my strengths, and my goals for the future. It allows me to use my hands, challenge myself, and make a real impact on my community and beyond. That’s why I’m committed to pursuing this career and growing as much as I can within it.
Welding matters in today’s world because almost everything around us relies on it. From buildings and bridges to cars, pipelines, and equipment, welders help create the structures and tools that keep our communities moving. It’s one of those careers people don’t always think about, but without it, nothing would stand or function the way it should. Even with new technology, skilled welders are still needed, because precision and hands-on decision-making can’t be replaced.
Payton S. Osborn Memorial Scholarship
My name is Jayme Clayton and one of the biggest things I've discovered about myself is that I love working with my hands. Welding became something I enjoy because it lets me focus, be creative and build things that are strong and useful. I like learning new skills, and welding gives me the chance to keep improving and trying new things every day. It's the kind of work I can see myself doing for a long time because it's challenging but also really awarding.
Outside of school and welding, I'm a person with a lot of interests. I like fishing because its peaceful and gives me time to clear my mind. Being out by the water helps me relax and think about my goals. Playing pool is another thing I enjoy because it takes patience, stradgey, and practice, kind of like welding. Both of these hobbies remind me that focus and consistency matters, whether you're working on a weld lining up a shot or waiting for a bite on your fishing line. They help me stay balanced and keep a positive outlook.
I'm also the type of person who cares a lot about the people in my life. My nieces and nephew mean a lot to me, and they motivate me to work hard and make good choices. I want them to see that if you put in the effort, you can build a good future. My dog and my best friend are also big parts of my life, and they've helped me stay positive and keep moving forward even when things are stressful.
I plan on going to a technical school to study Welding so I can earn my certification and start my career. A technical college feels right for me because I learn best by doing things hand-on. After finishing schools, I want to work in the welding field, whether its fabrication, construction, or another area where I can grow my skills and stay busy.
I'm hardworking, determined, and ready for the next phase in my life. I might not have everything figured out, but I know what I enjoy and what type of career I want to build. Welding is something I love and I'm 100% committed to that field of work. I yearn to keep learning new skills and keep pushing myself forward. I can build a solid career field for myself, and my family.
Receiving this scholarship would help me pay for school and the tools I need to get started. It would take some pressure off financially a reaching my goals. I'm excited about my future, and I'm ready to work hard to make that happen.
