Black Medical Students Scholarship
My name is Jaylnn smith im a senior at central high school. Im 18 years old and live in Tuscaloosa Alabama. After I graduated from high school I want to continue my education. I want to go to school for nursing. I have been thinking about being a nurse every since when I was little I always want to help and take care of people and work in the medical field. I think it would be better for me to continue my education after high school. My biggest goal is to become a nurse. Sometimes it is hard for me because I struggle with financial needs which I need to pay off which I'm scared of if I don't have enough for college. know that medical school is going to be a time for me to learn about the different paths my career can take. As of right now, I have a real interest in surgery, oncology, or something specializing in infectious diseases. These are all areas that I feel meet my overall goal to incorporate both research and service work into my career. Regardless of the speciality I choose, I plan to work to do most of my patient care in underserved communities both nationally and abroad. I have wanted to work with Doctors Without Borders for almost ten years now. As a kid I showed an interest in helping people and in medicine, and my grandpa really encouraged this. He would give me all of his Alert magazines from MSF so that I could read and try to really understand what the organization does. I plan to work with Doctors Without Borders multiple times throughout my career. My commitment to research has been established more recently. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer with an ALK-positive mutation in the spring of 2015. She has been managing the disease with Crizotinib for a little over a year, and hopefully, this will continue to work. I know that eventually, she will progress on this drug, but what is amazing to me is that when she does, she will have more options... she can try Alectinib, or Brigotinib, or Lorlotinib, maybe immunotherapy at some point. To me, it seems we have reached a pivotal point in cancer research
What do I hope to achieve in my career in medicine is While the experience was invaluable not only in terms of my future medical career but also in terms of developing leadership and creative thinking skills, it put my undergraduate studies on hold for over two years. Consequently, my carefully-planned journey towards medical school and a medical career was thrown off course. Thus, while ten-year plans are valuable, I have learned from experience how easily such plans can dissolve in situations that are beyond one’s control, as well as the value of perseverance and flexibility.

I want o major in nursing to become a registered nurse. Why I want to become a registered nurse I want to help people and also take care of people in life. I always dream of been nursing and I want to accomplish that after I graduate from high school.
My goals is to become registered nurse. I am very confidence about this career goal and that next thing I want to achieve in my life. I always want to go out in medical field and work which would be opportunity for me.
Asides from my values, I’m truly passionate working in the medical field. I always wanted to be a nurse since I was sixteen years old . My strong interest in the medical field allowed me to open up my shell in certain situations— when I became sociable to patients in the hospital as a volunteer.
After graduation, I plan to develop a strong Accomplishment on achieve this career goal . Based on my values, interests, and planned future, I’m applying for scholarships because not only will it financially help me, but it can give motivation for me to academically push myself. I hope to use this scholarship in applying for a study abroad program, where I can learn More and achieve my education.
I plan to continue my success in the classroom and do everything to the best of my ability as I know that under my current circumstances it can all be ripped away from me at any moment. Growing up with my situation has taught me to not take advantage of a single opportunity.
There has been continued support around me past and current and I know there are people out there rooting for my success. I will strive to be the first generation in my family to graduate from an American University and I will set a stepping stone for my future family so they will not have to struggle as I did. My citizenship is not a setback, it is a mere obstacle that I will always learn to work around. if it means giving my future children a better life, just like my mother did for me.
What I'm doing today to better myself around people is being to myself .I always try stay focus on me and focus on my life. Through the day when I get done with school I try to sleep to relax my mind. I be kind to myself. t’s hard to be a person in the world today — or, really, any day, but today’s what we’ve got. Humans are striving creatures, and also empathetic ones, so most of us are always looking for an opportunity to improve ourselves, even in tiny, literary ways.
