Somebody Cares About Science - Robert Stockwell Memorial Scholarship
Ever since I was young, I have wanted to work in a field that had science and can help with people’s lives. My name is Jaylene Gomez, I’m a high school student who’s working her hardest to graduate early and achieve her dreams faster. I have always a strong passion in health and medical science. Growing up I always loved the way nurses cared for their patients and had that sense of comfort. I love working with children, I help babysit and overall a very curious person who wants to know the science within medicine. The thing that motivates me the most for that would be knowing I made a difference in someone life making others happy. I have always enjoyed working with others, knowing how the body works, and helping find solutions to problems. With my curiosity about the human body and working with kids inspires me to go into a career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Science is very meaningful to me because Its always evolving and has new discoveries allowing me to connect with people in new ways. In my perspective science isn’t just about books but also using the same knowledge that found and finding ways to heal others. From what I’ve learned I found out science is extremely important in the medical field and plays a big role of how things are done. For me knowing that I would be able to take away a kids pain or assure a parent their child is going to be fine would be one of the best parts of my career. My goal for my future is being able to get my degree in nursing, gain experience as a registered nurse to then get further into the medical field becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I want to work in clinics and hospitals where I can give medical treatment to younger patients and save lives. I hope to be able to achieve my goals and reach farther than I could of imagined. Science and medicine is also improving as time goes by and I want to be a part of that journey of growth and be someone who never stops learning because every child deserves the best care they could ever imagine. For me, nursing has been a major part of what I want to do into later in life. Nursing for me not only represents the strength, and respect you can earn from your job but also trust and connection between yourself and the patient creating a special bond between one another. Becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner would allow me to live with those values everyday while making differences in many families lives. This scholarship would truly help me a lot and take my desires another step further allowing me to focus on my studies, clinical practices, and community service. With a lot of hard work, passion, and dedication I’m determined to turn my passion for science into a lifelong career that helps others heal and feel safe.
