    Calculus is important in the STEM field because it provides the foundation for understanding change, motion, and relationships between variables in the real world. Unlike basic math, which often deals with fixed numbers, calculus focuses on how and why things change over time. This makes it essential for solving complex problems in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. For someone interested in civil engineering like myself, calculus is especially important because it helps explain how structures behave under different forces and conditions. In engineering, calculus is used to analyze things like load distribution, structural stability, and material strength. For example, when designing a bridge, engineers must understand how weight is spread across different parts of the structure and how it changes depending on traffic, weather, or materials used. Calculus helps engineers model these changes and make sure the design is safe and efficient. Without calculus, it would be much harder to predict how structures will perform in real-life conditions. Another reason calculus is important is because it helps describe motion and physical systems. In physics, calculus is used to understand velocity, acceleration, and force. These concepts are directly connected to engineering because every structure and system must be designed with these forces in mind. Whether it is a building resisting wind or a road handling traffic flow, calculus allows engineers to create accurate models and make informed decisions. Calculus is also essential in technology and innovation. In fields like computer science, data analysis, and artificial intelligence, calculus is used to optimize systems and solve complex problems. It helps in designing algorithms, analyzing large amounts of data, and improving efficiency. This shows that calculus is not just limited to engineering but is a key tool across all STEM disciplines. For me personally, learning calculus is important because it will prepare me for the challenges of civil engineering. It will allow me to understand the technical side of designing infrastructure and ensure that my work is both safe and effective. It also gives me the confidence to approach complex problems and find solutions that are grounded in mathematics and science. Overall, calculus is a powerful tool in the STEM field because it explains how the world changes and interacts. In the future, I hope to build a civil engineering–related business, possibly an engineering consulting firm or a company focused on sustainable infrastructure and community development.     One problem I have noticed, both in my own experience and in my community, is how difficult it can be for students to stay organized, access academic support, and manage stress while balancing school, work, and personal responsibilities. A lot of students have the motivation to succeed, but they don’t always have the tools or guidance to stay on track. If I had the money and resources, I would create a community-based student support and learning center designed to help students stay focused, organized, and prepared for their future careers. This center would be a free or low-cost space where students could go after school to study, get tutoring, and receive guidance on college and career planning. One major part of the center would be tutoring programs in subjects like math, science, writing, and STEM-related topics. These sessions would be led by trained volunteers, college students, and educators who can provide one-on-one help or group workshops. Many students struggle in silence, so having a place where they can ask questions without feeling judged would make a big difference. Another key part of the center would be academic and career mentorship. Students would be paired with mentors in fields like engineering, healthcare, business, and technology. These mentors would help guide students through high school, college applications, and career decisions. Since I am interested in civil engineering, I would want to include engineering workshops where students can learn basic design concepts, work on small projects, and understand how engineering impacts real life. The center would also include financial literacy programs to teach students how to budget, save money, apply for scholarships, and prepare for college expenses. Many students do not learn these skills early enough, so giving them access to this knowledge would help them become more independent and confident in planning their futures. To support mental well-being, the space would include quiet study areas, stress-management workshops, and access to counseling resources. Many students feel overwhelmed, so having a safe and supportive environment could help them stay motivated and balanced. I know from my high school experience that it has been an issue with that. Overall, this center would solve the problem of students lacking academic support, guidance, and resources outside of school. My goal would be to create a place where students feel encouraged, supported, and prepared for their future. With the right resources, I believe this idea could help many students succeed and build stronger, more confident communities.

    My personal experiences with finances have mainly been shaped by learning through real-life situations rather than formal financial education. Growing up, I saw that money has to be managed carefully and that financial decisions can have a big impact on daily life and long-term goals. Because of that, I started to understand early on that things like saving, budgeting, and planning ahead are important skills, even if they are not always taught directly in detail at home or in school. I have had to become more aware of the value of money and how quickly expenses can add up, especially when thinking about future goals like college. This has made me more cautious and thoughtful when it comes to spending and more focused on finding ways to be responsible with the resources I have. I also started paying more attention to opportunities like scholarships, part-time work, and financial aid options because I know they will be important in helping me continue my education. As I continue my education, I plan to strengthen my financial knowledge by learning more about budgeting, saving, student loans, credit, and long-term financial planning. I know that understanding how money works is just as important as my academic studies, especially because I want to be independent and successful in the future. Learning financial literacy will help me make smarter decisions during college so I can avoid unnecessary debt and manage my expenses effectively. In the future, I plan to use what I learn about finances to build stability for myself and my family.
