Social Anxiety Step Forward Scholarship
Throughout my entire life, I have lived with such severe social and general anxiety it has prevented me from doing a lot of things I feel I would've enjoyed. Throughout high school and even now I've grappled with the difficulty of making friends. Despite yearning for meaningful connections, the grip of anxiety often renders me unable to express myself verbally. My mind constantly feels like it has this invisible barrier of shame and fear that prevents words from escaping my mouth, leaving me feeling isolated and misunderstood. This struggle to express and communicate has led to intense feelings of frustration and loneliness, watching others effortlessly navigate social settings while I struggled to even say a word and break through the confines of my anxious thoughts. My anxiety has cast a shadow of shame and fear over my daily experiences. This constant sense of unease and apprehension clouds my mind, making even the simplest tasks feel daunting. It was as though I was constantly on edge, subconsciously anticipating the worst possible outcomes in every situation. There was always this dreadful feeling that made it challenging to fully engage with the world.
Despite the overwhelming impact of anxiety in my life, I remain determined to pursue a college degree. For me, high education represents the opportunity to break away from the limitations my anxiety imposed and pushes me towards personal growth and fulfillment. More specifically, choosing to attend LIM College is a decision that holds significant meaning and promise for me. Despite my anxiety, my love and passion for fashion have remained a constant source of inspiration and motivation that drives me to pursue my dreams despite the obstacles in my path. The supportive and inclusive community at LIM College provides a sense of belonging and acceptance that is invaluable to someone who has grappled with feelings of isolation and self-doubt due to anxiety. My decision to attend college let alone LIM College symbolizes more than just an academic institution, it represents my commitment to pursuing my dreams in the face of adversity, a belief in my ability to overcome challenges, and a determination to create a better future for myself filed by creativity and resilience.
My experience with anxiety has underscored the importance of pursuing a college degree as a means of personal and professional growth, as well as a pathway to overcoming the obstacles that have hindered me previously. Despite the challenges, i am committed to pursuing a higher education as a means of realizing my full potential and achieving my goals.

TBC Academic Scholarship
As sad and as typical as it sounds, it is still a prevalent problem for a mass majority of BIPOC students today. I grew up in a single-family home living off Section 8, and food stamps, and still even near homelessness. My mother was the backbone behind every single dream I still have. For years throughout high school, the idea of college was automatically shut down for me by me. The notion of breaking out of this drowning cycle of poverty through education felt elusive, it felt like something you'd only see in fiction or once in a lifetime. I never thought I would have the chance or the option to pick up a college pamphlet and say I want to go here. Right out of high school, going to college was no longer on my radar, I settled for a low minimum-wage job was my only option and I stuck to that for a while. Yet, for that first year and a half of watching all my friends get that college experience, and all the loss I experienced, my perspective seemed to change drastically. I did a lot of research and a lot of hoping and maneuvering to get myself to even the point of asking for help. Still nothing perfect, I'm still dealing with the financial aftermath of the dreams I hope to achieve and the goals I have but the sense of purpose it brought me feels like I overcame a tremendous obstacle. The sacrifices that were made for me to be in this position, to go from having such horrible depression and a 2.3 GPA to now having a 3.9 GPA and the opportunity to explore NYC like I've dreamed of since I was a kid.
Sure I am still figuring things out, and still paying for my dreams.. but it's a messy journey where I found a purpose that goes beyond the financial struggles that weasled its way into defining my path. My goals in attending LIM College aren't just about overcoming obstacles anymore, it's about providing myself with that sense of stability and peace I know I deserve and more people deserve. it's about being amongst the few blips of representation of humility and authenticity that is needed in the arts and fashion industries, building a beacon for others navigating similar journeys and really telling them not to give up hope even when things are difficult and stressful.

It empowers individuals by imparting knowledge, honing skills, and fostering critical thinking, enabling us to navigate life's complexities with informed decision-making and self-confidence. Jillian Ellis Pathway Scholarship
Resilience, to me, is more than a quality; it's a way of life. Growing up in a single-parent household, reliant on Section 8 housing, and enduring periods of homelessness has been the crucible in which my determination was tempered. These experiences have not only shaped my character but have also solidified my commitment to using my education to uplift African-American and BIPOC fashion creatives from underrepresented communities.
The challenges I faced during my upbringing were not easy. Financial instability was a constant companion, and there were times when my family and I had no place to call home. These adversities, however, did not deter me; they fueled my resolve to overcome them. They instilled in me a deep appreciation for the transformative power of education and the opportunities it can provide. My journey toward a degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Fashion Marketing and Visual Studies is a testament to my unwavering belief in the potential of education. It's a journey that holds profound significance for me, as it represents the culmination of years of determination and hard work.
But my aspirations extend far beyond personal success. I am resolutely committed to using my degree as a means to uplift others who share similar struggles and dreams. The fashion industry, like many others, is often an exclusive space that lacks diversity and representation, making it particularly challenging for African-American and BIPOC fashion creatives. My vision is to change this narrative. I plan to establish a platform that not only provides mentorship and resources but also acts as a bridge to connect emerging talents from underrepresented communities with industry professionals. Through this platform, I hope to break down the barriers that have traditionally hindered access and success.
Additionally, I intend to collaborate with like-minded organizations and initiatives that are dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in the fashion world. By actively participating in these efforts, I aim to contribute to a more inclusive industry that recognizes and celebrates talent from all backgrounds.
Moreover, my long-term goals include the establishment of a clothing brand that not only showcases the rich cultural diversity of underrepresented communities but also empowers them economically. This brand will serve as a beacon of hope, creating sustainable job opportunities and promoting fair labor practices within the fashion industry.
In conclusion, my resilience, forged through a childhood marked by financial instability and homelessness, has become the driving force behind my determination to uplift African-American and BIPOC fashion creatives. My journey toward a degree is not just about personal achievement; it's about leveraging my education to break down barriers, create opportunities, and inspire others who have faced similar challenges. As I pursue my degree, I am resolute in my commitment to transforming adversity into positive action, changing not only my life but also the lives of those I aspire to uplift and empower.

I, Aura Woods have always dreamed of captivating the art and fashion industry. I loved illustrating fashion designs but I wasn’t much of a designer. I didn’t find enjoyment in the sewing aspect of fashion. I’ve dabbled in graphic design ventures and instantly found a passion for it. I decided that I should research ways these goals and interests could be connected and stumbled across my current school LIM College. LIM offers many forms of education for fashion careers that are typically behind the scenes, which I felt was perfect for me. This passion for working in the fashion industry drives my ambition to excel as a Fashion Advertisement and Promotions Manager. This role isn't just a destination; it's a stepping stone towards becoming a Creative Director and establishing my fashion marketing agency. Fashion, to me, is an art form that tells compelling stories, and I aim to blend my artistic sensibilities with strategic acumen to craft captivating campaigns. I see myself as a visionary, always seeking innovative ways to market and promote fashion brands. In the long term, I aspire to build a team and create a platform for emerging designers, leaving a lasting impact on fashion marketing. Attending college away from my current environment is crucial for my personal and professional growth, and this scholarship is pivotal in turning my dreams into reality.
I've faced numerous challenges throughout my life, both financial and emotional, which have often limited my opportunities. However, my unwavering belief in education's transformative power drives me to overcome these hurdles. I envision immersing myself in New York City, aiming to receive a comprehensive education in Business Administration with a specialization in Fashion Marketing and Visual Studies, a field I'm deeply passionate about. This scholarship would bridge the gap to access this education and empower me to pursue my dreams. It would alleviate financial burdens, signifying an investment in a dedicated and determined student. My aspirations extend to owning a marketing agency and fashion empire, creating an influential magazine, and establishing my clothing brand. This scholarship would not only ease financial constraints but also enable me to make positive contributions to the fashion and marketing industry, inspiring and collaborating with others.
In closing, this scholarship offers a profound opportunity for transformation and personal growth, freeing me from current constraints and fueling my pursuit of dreams in fashion marketing and visual studies. With your support, I'm confident that I can seize this opportunity to construct a better life, enrich society, and demonstrate the life-changing potential of education. Helping others touches beyond the very core of our existence. It creates a personal and vulnerable connection for maybe a split second or more between humans that binds us all. Personally, assisting others has been enriching and has allowed me to experience firsthand the transformative power of empathy and compassion. The college process especially has tested me beyond belief when it comes to needing assistance and being that assistance and shoulder for people in my position. It has grown and created beautiful friendships for myself and others I have observed. Being a help to others creates a sense of peace in the world, it shows that person that they're not alone and may even give them a sense of motivation and that very thought and idea creates a pathway for me personally to want to continue helping people. Helping others is how you create a way that is instrumental in creating a tight-knit and supportive network. It aids those in college through the process and helps them get through the harsh reality of change and being away from the comfort zone they continue to live in. On a personal level, lending a hand to others has been a source of insane growth and fulfillment, Through volunteering and supporting others, it's helped me hone incredible life skills like effective communication, conflict-solving, and leadership. Helping others when starting with yourself creates a ripple effect. Helping others may inspire them to pay it forward and so on and so on, creating a significant difference in someone else's experience of life. The chain reaction of positivity creates a sense of purpose in my life and it might be the same for others. Helping others can shape the outcome of the country and even the world. It can create a community and it has created communities of like-minded people whose voices can impact the many changes needed for the world around us to succeed and continue to thrive. It can create a community for those with the same beliefs who want to make significant impacts but lack the voice they feel they need to create that change. It can create a sense of power within people to get up and push through the moments they didn't think they'd ever experience. Helping others can aid so many people struggling with mental health and depression. I struggle and I know what's keeping me here every day is the support I receive and the love I feel from those who understand and help me keep my head up every single day.
Helping others shape the world, everyones community, and everyone. I hope to continue to help people and further forge a brighter, more compassionate path for everyone around me.

My vision for developing my apparel line is to create a brand that goes beyond just selling clothes; it is a movement that embraces inclusivity, diversity, edginess, and confidence for my generation. My apparel line will be a platform that fosters a sense of belonging and empowers individuals to embrace their true selves with pride and confidence.
One of the main reasons why this vision is essential to me is because I have personally experienced the impact of fashion on self-esteem and identity. As a young fashion enthusiast, I have always believed that clothing should not merely be a means of covering the body, but a form of self-expression that celebrates individuality. However, the fashion industry often falls short in providing this empowerment, as it continues to perpetuate unrealistic beauty standards and lacks genuine representation of diverse cultures and identities.
Through my apparel line, I want to challenge these norms and redefine the fashion narrative. I believe that every individual, regardless of their background or appearance, deserves to feel seen, valued, and represented in the clothing they wear. By embracing diversity in all its forms, my brand will celebrate the richness of different cultures, body types, and personal styles.
Moreover, my vision for the apparel line extends beyond just creating beautiful clothing; it is about making a positive impact on society. I am deeply committed to promoting body positivity, mental health awareness, and social responsibility through my brand's messaging and community outreach initiatives. I believe that fashion can be a powerful tool to address social issues and inspire positive change.
Creating a sustainable and ethical fashion brand is also a crucial aspect of my vision. I recognize the environmental impact of the fashion industry and am determined to practice responsible sourcing of materials, reduce waste, and adopt eco-friendly production practices. By setting an example for ethical fashion practices, I hope to contribute to a greener and more conscious industry.
Ultimately, my apparel line is not just a business venture; it is my way of leaving a lasting mark on the fashion world and society as a whole. I want to build a brand that inspires future generations to embrace their individuality, challenge societal norms, and make a difference in the world. This vision is important to me because it aligns with my core values of inclusivity, creativity, and social responsibility. By pursuing this dream, I hope to create a positive ripple effect in the fashion industry and empower individuals to express themselves authentically and fearlessly through clothing.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
In my life, I have faced the weight of being in a family with undiagnosed depression, borderline personality disorder, and severe anxiety. It hasn't been easy, but amidst the darkness, I discovered an unexpected source of solace: art. I channeled my pain and emotions into writing, pouring my heart into two books during my most challenging moments.
These books became more than just words on paper; they became the pillars of my dreams and aspirations. Through them, I found my voice, my purpose, and a newfound appreciation for the power of creation. Each word I penned became a stepping stone towards understanding who I truly am and what I can achieve.
The journey of crafting my books deepened my understanding of the world. As I delved into my characters' minds, I found myself connecting with their struggles on a profound level. It allowed me to empathize with others' pain and brought a sense of solidarity to my own journey.
Moreover, my books provided me with a platform to reach out to others, sharing my experiences and stories of hope. As I ventured into the world of self-marketing, I learned the importance of presenting my work authentically and connecting with an audience that could resonate with my message.
Through the creative process, I discovered the strength that comes from embracing vulnerability and turning it into something powerful. Art has become not only a means of expression but also a beacon of light during my darkest times.
With each sentence I write, I find myself moving closer to the person I want to become. Through my writing, I hope to inspire others, to show them that no matter the struggles they face, they too can find their own path to healing and self-discovery.
So, I will continue to create, to share my story, and to shine a light on mental health issues that are often hidden in the shadows. My art has become an integral part of me, shaping my goals and relationships, and reminding me that there is strength in vulnerability and hope in the face of adversity.
