My life has been very curvy. I became a mother at the young age of 17. I was not able to obtain my GED until 19. I then spent many years working customer service. My daughter is my inspiration for breaking into the nursing field and since, I have loved every minute it! She is my youngest child, diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 6 months old. The care that was provided to her was above amazing. The nurses were my saving grace. I inspire to provide that care for another person and have them know there are people that genuinely care.
I didn’t know where to really begin once I had decided nursing was what I wanted to do. I met with a counselor at Parkland Community College who introduced me to Medical Assisting in 2013. I have been working in Family Care, OB/GYN, Peds, Urgent Care Clinics and in the labs drawing blood. The diversity of the MA allowed me to float to departments where I was needed the most. This gave me the perfect opportunity to learn, absorbing all that I could.
I have returned to Nursing School to further my education and allow me to provide more care to patients. Currently I’m enrolled in Practical Nursing at Ivy Tech Community College and set to graduate July 2022. I do not plan to stop there. My goal is to proceed into the Registered Nursing program next Spring.
I have given thought to pursuing further in the future to Nurse Practitioner but one step at a time.
