McCutcheon | Nikitin First-Generation Scholarship
The motivator that has had the biggest impact on my life has been Dr. Dana Hubbard at Cleveland State University. As a first-generation who at a young age was encouraged to continue my education, Dr. Hubbard provide wisdom and information that helped me complete my undergraduate studies and continue on to graduate school. She has pushed students beyond goals and encouraged me to seek advanced-level education to further equip myself for the ever-changing workforce. As a multiracial minority, LGBTQ member, and raised in a lower societally economic status who was abandoned by birth mother and raised in foster care no one ever encouraged me to seek additional education out of the bachelor level. With Dr. Hubbard's guidance, I'm currently setting sight on my PH.D program after completion of my master's degree. Also due to the influence of not allowing where you come from to decide your fate. If your assistance I would be able to make my dreams a reality.
My interest from the beginning was about survival when it related to education. Watching children around me in the inner city give up on education at the age of 11 and 12 years old was depressing. I notice as a kid that education is one thing someone can't take away from me and it doesn't matter where you are from hard work and applying yourself in school you could be educated even if I was poor and family wasn't around. Later reuniting with my biological father and removing different social barriers I was able to blossom into a life longer learner today. Encourage students not to only pursue bachelor's degrees but to seek out advanced degrees options. If awarded this scholarship I would be forever grateful and appreciate it. This would allow me to continue with my current goal of completing graduate school. I'm also happy that If anything I got to share my brief background, growth, and about an educator who only encouraged and motivated me for the better.
Thank you for hearing my story.
