I decided to pursue a STEM-related field because I’ve always been drawn to understanding how things work—especially machines. From an early age, I had a deep interest in powersports vehicles like dirt bikes, ATVs, and snowmobiles. I wasn’t just interested in riding them—I wanted to know what made them run, how to fix them when they didn’t, and how to make them perform better. That curiosity led me naturally to Powersports Technology, a field that combines elements of science, technology, engineering, and math in a hands-on, practical way.
What excites me most about this STEM field is the constant evolution of the technology. Modern powersports machines are equipped with advanced fuel systems, electronics, and diagnostic tools. Working on them requires a solid understanding of mechanical systems as well as the latest tech tools and software. I enjoy the challenge of solving problems, diagnosing complex issues, and applying both logic and creativity to get machines back in top shape. Powersports Technology allows me to turn that passion into a career while staying engaged with cutting-edge technology.
My career goal is to become a certified powersports technician and eventually open my own repair and customization shop. I want to be a trusted expert in my community—someone people come to when they need their machines repaired, upgraded, or maintained with care and precision. Long term, I also hope to mentor others entering the field, especially students who are interested in STEM but may not see themselves in a traditional classroom setting. I believe that technical careers like this one deserve more recognition, and I want to help show that there are many rewarding paths in STEM outside of the standard four-year degree.
Community service is also important to me, and I want to use my skills to give back. One goal I have is to organize free or low-cost maintenance clinics for youth and riders in my community who may not have access to proper repair services. I’d also like to volunteer at local schools or youth centers to teach basic mechanical skills and inspire kids to consider careers in trades and technology. Being deaf in my left ear and having gone through financial struggles due to my father’s cancer battle has taught me the importance of resilience, support, and helping others when you can. I want to be that helping hand in my community.
Pursuing a STEM-related career in Powersports Technology is more than a job choice for me—it’s a path to independence, growth, and service. I’m committed to using my skills not just for myself, but to contribute to the people and community around me

From the time I was old enough to hold a wrench, I’ve been fascinated by engines and machines—especially anything that moves fast and kicks up dirt. Powersports vehicles like dirt bikes, ATVs, and snowmobiles have always caught my attention, not just for the thrill of riding them, but for the way they’re built and how they work. I didn’t grow up around brand-new machines or high-tech garages, but I found myself constantly tinkering, fixing, and learning. That passion is what led me to choose a career in Powersports Technology.
What draws me to this field is the combination of hands-on work, mechanical problem-solving, and the unique culture that surrounds powersports. These vehicles aren’t just tools or modes of transportation—they’re part of a lifestyle and a community. As someone who enjoys fixing things and helping people get the most out of their machines, I saw a natural opportunity to build a career doing something that truly excites me.
Another reason I chose Powersports Technology is because it’s a field that offers constant growth and learning. Technology in this industry is always evolving—new fuel systems, electronic components, diagnostics, and performance upgrades are introduced all the time. This keeps the job interesting and challenging. I don’t want a career where every day looks the same. I want one where I keep learning, keep improving, and take pride in seeing results from my work.
My decision was also shaped by some of the challenges I’ve faced. I was born deaf in my left ear, which has forced me to adapt in a world where clear communication and careful listening are essential—especially in noisy environments like workshops. Rather than letting that hold me back, it taught me how to stay focused and work even harder. In addition, my family has been through financial hardship due to my father’s long-term cancer treatments. These struggles pushed me to find a career that I could be proud of—one where I could contribute meaningfully, support myself, and help relieve the burden on my family.
Choosing to attend a powersports technology program was an easy decision once I found a school that offered hands-on training, knowledgeable instructors, and industry connections. I wanted to be in a learning environment where I could get real experience—not just sit in lectures, but work on engines, troubleshoot problems, and leave with skills that employers value. I’m proud of the path I’ve chosen and excited about the future it can bring.
Ultimately, I chose Powersports Technology because it gives me the chance to turn my passion into a career. It’s a field where I can make a living doing something I love, constantly grow as a technician, and become part of a strong, hardworking community. I’m determined to take full advantage of this opportunity and build a future that reflects my dedication and drive

I chose a career in powersports technology because it combines two things I’m truly passionate about: working with my hands and being around engines, speed, and performance. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been fascinated by dirt bikes, ATVs, and motorcycles. I would spend hours watching videos, reading manuals, and helping friends fix their machines. I quickly realized that this wasn’t just a hobby—it was something I wanted to turn into a lifelong career.
What really draws me to powersports technology is the blend of mechanics, diagnostics, and the evolving use of electronics and software. These machines may look simple from the outside, but the level of precision and technical knowledge needed to repair and maintain them is complex and constantly evolving. I enjoy the challenge of figuring out what’s wrong and fixing it, but even more than that, I love seeing something roar back to life after I’ve worked on it. That feeling never gets old.
When I was researching schools, I knew I needed a place that offered hands-on training, experienced instructors, and up-to-date equipment. That led me to choose a technical college that specializes in powersports technology. The program stood out because of its strong industry partnerships, modern training labs, and job placement support. I didn’t just want a classroom—I wanted a place where I could get my hands dirty and learn from people who’ve worked in the field.
Yes—this journey hasn’t been without its challenges. I was born deaf in my left ear, which sometimes makes communication and focus in loud environments more difficult. But I’ve learned how to adapt and never let it stop me from going after my goals. My family has also faced financial hardship, especially due to my father’s long-term battle with cancer and the cost of his treatments. Despite these struggles, I’ve stayed committed to my education and my dream of working in powersports. Receiving this scholarship would ease some of the financial burden on my family and allow me to focus fully on my training. I’m determined to make the most of every opportunity and to build a future I can be proud of.

I developed a passion for powersports the first time I drove a Polaris Rzr. This sparked my interest in learning more about the different parts of side by sides. When installing different accessories on my side by side, I always think about how they could be made to be more effective and serve their purpose better.
A career in the trades will empower my future in many ways. It will allow me to have less debt than a degree from a four-year degree. It will also allow me to start out with a more competitive salary. Many trades are drawing less interest and cannot be replaced by other technologies such as robotics and artificial intelligence. Along with the competitive salary that the trades offer, it can help achieve the American dream, to be an entrepreneur and operate your own business. What a great way to build a future!
The opportunity to have a career in the trades also allows me to develop special skills which will always be in demand. Having a career in power sports and precision machining will allow me to use critical problem-solving skills. The trades will allow me to contribute to my community by using my passion and skills to help others. Having a business through the trades will allow me to help my community create tax revenue for the town, as well as having creating jobs for potential employees. These skills such as sociability, attention to detail, and problem-solving will help make me more professional in the workplace, but also in everyday life challenges.
By pursuing a career in the trades, I am building my career, but I am also creating the future for myself. The trades will allow me to have ideas and create them, support my family, and make an impact in the industry I love with fixing and diagnosing problems. I hope to share my passion in powersports and precision machining with others that are wanting to get into the trades which will help the trades in future generations.

My father has influenced me the most because growing up on the farm I have always been around machinery and I have always liked to fix things and do repair work. He has always encouraged me to continue fixing things as well as when something is not going right to never give up. Throughout my life he has had a rare form of cancer that has made him get extensive treatment in other states. This caused me to do many of these tasks on my own and try to figure them out. His dedication to never give up has been a perfect role model and reminds me to be determined and pay attention to detail. I was also diagnosed very young that I was deaf in my left ear. This led me to learn through other ways such as hands on tasks. With these challenges i would like to show others that no matter what you might think is difficult or impossible there is always a way and to never give up.
