In a perfect world, everyone who enters a healthcare facility walks out healthier than when they entered; unfortunately, that’s not always the case. I will use my skills of empathy and compassion to deliver the news as best as I can. Some of the rewards I can predict in the future with my career are fulfillment, giving back to my community, and being able to be that helping hand in someone's recovery. As a future nurse, I look forward to my roles as a mentor, educator, advocate, and counselor. I also see the ability to use my skills to nurture someone back to a healthy state or comfort them in a time of need as a reward. I see my future as a nurse as gratifying, even though the trivializations I may face will be treacherous, I know in my heart this is the career for me. Many people say that nursing is a calling, and I have followed that voice for more than half my life. Now while in the program I know I will be successful. If I can receive this scholarship, my dreams will become a reality and I can finally complete my BSN.

As college approached my parents separated and my mother moved far away. Becoming dependent on only my father was a major financial setback pertaining to college. I dreamed of coming to Nova Southeastern University, but then I was not sure I would be able to attend because of the cost. So, my father worked extra hard and took out loans for my benefit. Now, he is getting elderly and has medical conditions that inhibit him from working as much. If I can receive this scholarship, it will help me in more ways than one. Becoming a nurse is a dream for me; with this scholarship, I could make it a reality. I always faced different challenges unique to my situation that shaped me into who I am today. My barriers cultivated me into a strong-willed and determined individual. I fell in love with the nursing profession through all my successes and errors. For nearly my entire life I have had a passion for taking care of others. In addition, my love for the human body and medicine lead me toward the nursing pathway. Ever since I was young, I cared for my grandmother due to not having the support of my mother. My grandmother suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. I became accustomed to organizing my grandmother's medication and helping her with daily tasks. I was always happy to help my grandmother because on top of her illnesses, she also suffered from depression, and seeing her smile meant the world to me. Once I got older, I took her to doctor appointments and surgery operations. During all my time in the healthcare facilities, I started to admire the nurses who aided my grandmother and treated her with kindness. They were skillful, compassionate, and worked with integrity. I also admired their strength and confidence in my grandmother's successful recovery which gave her hope when she was in great pain. Because of my experiences with my grandmother, I grew a fondness for healthcare and took medical-related electives while in high school. Upon exceeding in those classes I became more interested in nursing and obtaining my BSN. I see my future as a nurse as gratifying, even though the trivializations I may face will be treacherous, I know in my heart this is the career for me. I want to provide for my patients in their most vulnerable state and ensure they come out of the surgery room in good condition. The funds I receive from this scholarship will help me obtain my BSN and implement my dreams into reality. The opportunity of receiving my BSN will open the doors to earning my CRNA. Being able to give back to my family and the community with the skills obtained from the NSU nursing program would be my biggest accomplishment to date. If I can complete my degree, I want to positively impact my community by aiding individuals with minimal socioeconomic benefits. Health disparities especially in underprivileged communities are often overlooked, due to negligence and lack of compassion. I see myself as a future healthcare provider who will take the extra step and advocate for my patient's well-being. I want to provide a safe and inviting environment for my patients where their concerns can be heard without the fear of judgment. I also want to work for an organization or start an organization that closes the gap between underprivileged individuals and healthcare. I believe that effective healthcare should be accessible to all citizens, and no one should be hesitant to seek medical help. Overall, I plan on giving back to the community that aided me in obtaining my BSN.
