Bio

My life goal is to become a captain of a large vessel. I aspire to sail for years until I feel content with the life I've given the sea. I am most passionate about starting my career as a young man in the mariner industry. I believe I am a great candidate because I've chosen a demanding and meaningful career path as a future Merchant Mariner through SUNY Maritime College. My goal is to earn my Third Mates Unlimited License and work my way up to become ship captain. It is a career that requires dedication, discipline, and strong leadership. "The sea is selective, slow at recognition of effort and aptitude, but fast at sinking the unfit."

My grandfather has always been the person who shaped how I see myself as a leader. He was a man of discipline, resilience, and quiet strength. Someone who believed in working hard, staying humble, and never giving up no matter the challenge. Watching him live by those values taught me that true leadership isn’t about power; it’s about example, consistency, and the willingness to serve others. As a first-generation college student at SUNY Maritime, I carry his lessons with me every day. The maritime path demands exactly what he stood for - discipline, focus, and endurance. From early mornings and demanding coursework to preparing for life at sea, I’ve learned that resilience and structure are not just habits, but necessities. My grandfather’s work ethic motivates me to push forward as I train to become a U.S. Merchant Mariner, to earn my Third Mate Unlimited license and one day captain a ship. His legacy drives me to uplift others the way he uplifted me. I aim to give back by mentoring future cadets, encouraging younger students in my community to believe that success through discipline is possible, and representing my family with pride as the first to enter this profession. My journey is a reflection of his, rooted in resilience, built through leadership, and carried forward with the same focus and determination he lived by. My grandfather often told me that life is like the ocean; calm one day, rough the next. But if you keep your hand steady on the wheel, you’ll always find your way home. That lesson has stayed with me, especially as I’ve faced the pressures of balancing college, financial responsibilities, and preparing for my maritime career. There have been times when things felt uncertain, but I reminded myself of how he faced challenges with patience and composure. I want to be that same steady presence for others, for my peers who feel overwhelmed, for my family who looks to me as an example, and for the next generation who will sail after me. Becoming a Merchant Mariner is more than a career goal; it’s a calling to serve, lead, and navigate not just the seas, but the challenges of life with courage and purpose, just like my grandfather taught me. Carrying my grandfather’s strength, my family’s hope, and the legacy of generations who dreamed of sailing beyond the horizon is extremely important to me. I will succeed.
