Bio

I’m Javier Fernandez, and ever since I started at Jacksonville University, my dream of becoming an airline pilot has only gotten stronger. My major is Aviation Management and Operations, and I spend my weekdays in class and doing flight training at Craig Airport, where each flight reminds me why I’m so dedicated to this path. The financial demands of training are high, and to help cover the costs, I work weekends at The Plantation at Ponte Vedra, a gated community. I’d truly appreciate any scholarship or financial aid that could ease the burden, bringing me one step closer to reaching my goal of flying for a living. Thank you for considering being a part of this journey with me.

I hold a Private Pilot's License and am currently working on my Instrument Rating. I have accumulated 101.9 hours of flight time, including 12.5 hours as Pilot-in-Command. My next goal is to achieve my Commercial Multi and Single Engine ratings. I chose a career in aviation because, from a young age, I was captivated by the magic of flight. Some of my earliest memories are of pointing out planes to my family, watching them in awe until they disappeared from sight. As a child, I’d stretch out my arms, mimicking an airplane, dreaming of the day I’d fly for real. This passion only grew with time, and when I finally began flight training, I knew I had found my purpose. Aviation is incredibly meaningful to me; it’s more than a career—it's a lifelong calling. I am the first in my family to attend a university and pursue a degree far from home, a commitment that I’ve made because of my goal to become an airline pilot. Aviation isn’t just about flying; it represents exploration, dedication, and personal growth. Every time I step into a plane, the experience fills me with a joy and fulfillment that I struggle to find elsewhere. The thought of turning this passion into a profession is truly inspiring. In addition to achieving my Commercial Multi and Single Engine ratings, my long-term goal is to work for an airline like JetBlue or Delta. I want to travel the world, continuously learn more about the aviation industry, and inspire those around me. I’m also dedicated to setting a good example for my three younger siblings, who look up to me as a role model. I want to pave a path for them, showing them that hard work and dedication can make dreams possible. One personal goal I hold dearly is to teach my father to fly someday. My dad has always dreamed of earning his Private Pilot's License, and I want to be the one who helps him reach that milestone. This goal embodies why I find aviation so special—it’s not only about personal accomplishment but also about sharing the joy of flying with others and fostering a love for aviation in those around me. Aviation is significant to me because it combines everything I love into one field. Learning about aircraft, enhancing my skills, and flying are things I never get tired of. Each flight is an opportunity to grow, adapt, and immerse myself in the technical beauty of aviation. Every hour spent in the sky strengthens my passion, and every hour on the ground is spent looking forward to the next takeoff. My dedication, choices, and lifestyle all stem from my dream of becoming a pilot. I believe that if I stay focused, I’ll one day reach my destination in the cockpit of a commercial airline, ready to explore the world and inspire others along the way.

My name is Javier Fernandez, I am currently a freshman attending Jacksonville University pursuing a degree in Aviation. As a kid, I was always amazed when I looked up and saw an aircraft in the sky. I lived right near an airport, so I got to see them every day. And growing up I was always fantasizing about being an airline pilot. I can't wait to be in the left seat of an Airbus A320 and be able to safely fly civilians to their desired destination. I always enjoyed helping people as I was growing up, there's nothing better than seeing the smile on someone's face after you've helped them. It gives you this warm feeling inside, the same warm feeling I get when I smoothly land a Cessna 172 on the runway. Nobody in my family has gone to college, so I am the first to go. I am also the oldest, I have to pave a path for my two sisters and brother to follow. They have always looked up to me, and I am determined to reach my goal of being an airline pilot. Just so I can be the hero they have always thought I was. My father was the person that helped me take the final step in pursuing aviation. When it came time to apply for colleges he pointed out the idea of actually being an airline pilot. I had always fantasized about it up to this point, but I never actually thought it was possible because of the amount of money it takes to do so. My family doesn't come from wealth but by pursuing my degree in aviation I will be able to break that cycle and help put the rest of my siblings through college. The ways I have been involved in my community stretch from picking up trash I see on the sidewalks, and at the beach, to volunteering at my small-town events. The most memorable event I volunteered at was a color run for my elementary school, I was in high school at the time, and I got the opportunity to help out at this event. At first, the event started with everyone lined up at the starting line, and my job was to throw these little color packets at the kids while they raced around the field. It would make such a mess, but their faces would light up with happiness. Then the kids would throw color at the adults overall it was a great time. Then it was time to cook the burgers and hot dogs that everyone was going to eat. That was a great day, everyone involved had a huge smile on their face the whole time. Even at the end when we had to clean up the mess from five hundred elementary school kids. That was just one of the memorable times I've helped in the community. I wanted to spend my last few words expressing my condolences for Kyle, I know how hard it is to lose a family member from experience. I greatly appreciate this opportunity you have given me to apply for this scholarship.
