Growing up, my mother was the heart and soul of our home. While my father was away for work for six years, she single-handedly took care of me, becoming both my pillar and backbone through every challenge we faced. No matter how difficult things got for her, she always put my well-being first, ensuring I had everything I needed to succeed. Her resilience, determination, and unwavering love have shaped me into the person I am today. Now that we all live together again, I see the toll that years of hard work and sacrifice have taken on her. She suffers from chronic hip pain, a constant reminder of how much she has endured for our family. Seeing her struggle with pain every day has only strengthened my resolve to pursue a career in medicine, specifically psychiatry. While my focus will be on mental health, I believe that healing is both physical and emotional, and I want to be the kind of doctor who treats patients with the same care and compassion my mother has always shown me. My mother’s journey has inspired me to work harder and push forward, no matter how tough things get. She has given everything for me, and now it’s my turn to give back, not just to her, but to others who need support and care. Through psychiatry, I hope to provide a safe space for people who feel unheard and misunderstood, just as my mother always made sure I felt seen and valued. In the future, I see myself using my talents to do good, uplift others, and bring relief to those in pain, both mentally and physically. I want to help patients, families, and communities access the mental health resources they deserve, breaking stigmas and offering real solutions. And most importantly, I want to ensure that my mother, the woman who has sacrificed everything for me, gets the care, comfort, and peace she has always given so selflessly. Her strength fuels my ambition, and her love inspires my purpose. One day, I will earn the title of doctor, not just for myself, but for her, for every sacrifice, every late night, and every moment she stood by me. This is my way of giving back, of honoring her, and of ensuring that no one has to suffer alone. Her sacrifices have shaped my dreams, and I will continue to work tirelessly to make them a reality. One day, I will be the doctor she and so many others deserve, providing care, comfort, and hope to those in need.

One of my greatest passions is the study of medicine; a field that combines science, compassion, and the ability to change lives. The human body and mind fascinate me, and I am deeply committed to understanding how medicine can heal not just physically, but emotionally as well. My ultimate goal is to become a psychiatrist, using my knowledge to support those struggling with mental health challenges, especially young individuals who often feel misunderstood. Beyond medicine, I have always been captivated by the power of reading and writing. Books have been my gateway to different worlds, perspectives, and emotions, allowing me to see life through the eyes of others. Reading has also played a significant role in my passion for healthcare, as it has exposed me to stories of resilience, healing, and the profound impact of mental and physical well-being. Whether through medical journals, psychological studies, or fictional stories that explore the human condition, I am constantly learning and growing through literature. Writing, on the other hand, is my way of expressing thoughts, emotions, and ideas. It allows me to reflect, analyze, and connect with others on a deeper level. I love weaving words together to tell stories, advocate for mental health awareness, and explore the complexities of human emotions. I believe that medicine and storytelling share a unique connection, both require deep empathy, observation, and the ability to communicate effectively. A good doctor, like a good writer, must understand people, their struggles, and their hopes. The combination of medicine, reading, and writing gives me a unique perspective on healthcare. I aspire to use my love for storytelling to educate others about mental health, break stigmas, and create a space where people feel heard and understood. Whether it’s through writing research papers, patient advocacy, or even crafting narratives that highlight mental health struggles, I hope to make a difference through both science and words. These passions fuel my ambition and remind me why I chose this path. Medicine allows me to heal, reading allows me to learn, and writing allows me to share. Together, they shape who I am and who I aspire to be.

My name is Jaspreet Kour, and I am passionate about mental health and its impact on individuals, especially adolescents. My goal is to pursue a career in Psychiatry, where I can provide support, guidance, and treatment to those struggling with mental health challenges, particularly teens who often feel unheard or overlooked. Growing up, I witnessed as well as struggled with mental illness and it affected many people’s lives around yet for some unknown reasons they are dismissed. This ignited my desire to become a psychiatrist, not just to diagnose and treat but to listen, understand, and advocate for those who feel alone in their battles. Teenagers, in particular, face unique challenges as they navigate identity, relationships, and societal pressures. Many suffer in silence due to fear of judgment, lack of awareness, or limited access to proper care. I want to change that by creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where young individuals feel heard, valued, and supported. I have always wanted to be a doctor but after watching things and experiencing them myself I found what speaks to me personally and makes me want to make a difference. Psychiatry combines my love for medicine, psychology, and human connection. I am fascinated by the complexity of the mind and how biological, psychological, and social factors intertwine to shape mental well-being. Through my future career, I hope to not only provide direct care to patients but also advocate for better mental health education, early intervention programs, and community support systems that can make a lasting impact. I have seen firsthand how compassion, understanding, and proper guidance can change lives. These experiences have fueled my commitment to pursuing a field where I can make a tangible difference. My journey in healthcare is driven by the belief that everyone deserves to be heard, understood, and supported, especially young individuals who are still discovering who they are. I aspire to be the psychiatrist who not only treats but empowers—helping teens build resilience, self-acceptance, and the confidence to chase their dreams. I am excited about the journey ahead and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the field of mental health. Every step I take brings me closer to my goal of advocating for those who feel unheard of and providing them with the care they deserve. With dedication, compassion, and perseverance, I hope to contribute to a future where mental health is prioritized and supported. This is more than a career for me—it’s a lifelong mission to heal, uplift, and empower.
