Ever since I was a young child, I had a kidney ailment called Acute Polynephrotis. Having part of my organs compromised prevented me from playing too many active sports and this disorder sheltered me from fostering bonds with my adolescent peers. However, instead of this shortcoming, I became passionate and driven to read medical journals, abstracts, and other science and health-based books to emboss myself in the world of medicine. I am proud to say that I am a friendly advocator wherever I go in my day-to-day, as well as having served my free time under a couple of volunteer programs and learned from those experiences what it means to give back to the community. When I was in high school, I volunteered for 'Feeding America' during the summer and winter of 2010-2014 and the reward of helping others in their compromising situation truly made me feel privileged, grateful, and inspired to continue my pursuit of helping those that need assistance. Whether those needs are immediate or in passing, I plan to expedite my time and energy to finding ways to help others from the micro-level of daily conversation and trying to gauge others feelings and trying to remediate them, or by making them smile by telling them a joke, or asking about a particular family member that's popped up in previous banter. By showing consideration, patience, and the wherewithal to engage others in discourse that is fruitful and informative, I plan to inspire their headspace so that they can attain a brighter mood to spread on to others. There is a saying that goes like this: "Pay it forward." Even though I am not properly trained in the hands-on fundamentals of patient care or hospital work, I am confident in my abilities as a driven individual who will rise to the call of duty to help others. Being attentive, conscientious, and willing to sacrifice my needs for the benefit of others is something I am used to doing and am prepared to do once I finish attaining the necessary degree's that will lead me to a facility that will require my assistance. That is why I feel that Nursing would be the perfect path for me to accomplish my altruistic and empathetic side of understanding human interactions as well as facilitating a moral obligation to saving lives. Working side by side with fellow medical workers, especially in the tumultuous times of today's current pandemic crisis is nothing short but self-assuring for my capabilities to mentally and physically strive for the opportunity to follow my dreams of taking part in helping others in the health care industry is one way I can whole-heartedly say I have given back, just like the nurses and doctors that helped me with my kidney abnormalities since I was a young child. By pledging myself to this scholarship I aim to stand out from my peers not just by merit, but by intent. The intent to help others has undeniable value to my modicum as an individual and I am honored to take up your time to even have the chance to be considered.
