My fascination with Computer Science wasn’t a lightning bolt of realization; it was more like a gradual unveiling—a series of moments that collectively ignited a passion within me for this ever-evolving field. It all started with the innocuous allure of video games. I was captivated not only by the immersive worlds and captivating narratives but also by the intricate mechanics that made these virtual realities come to life. Curiosity drove me to dig deeper, to understand the mechanisms behind these digital marvels. I found myself intrigued by the codes that breathed life into pixels, transforming lines of instructions into immersive experiences. As I delved further into this technological labyrinth, I discovered that Computer Science was more than just gaming. It was the backbone of our digital age, the driving force behind innovations shaping our world. The versatility of this field was astounding—it wasn’t confined to a single realm but rather permeated every facet of modern life, from artificial intelligence to cybersecurity, from data science to software engineering. My interest in mathematics and problem-solving provided a natural bridge to Computer Science. I reveled in unraveling puzzles, finding patterns, and devising solutions—a skillset that seamlessly aligned with the logical thinking required in programming. Each code snippet resembled a puzzle waiting to be solved, a challenge urging me to decode its intricacies. The more I learned, the more I realized the vastness of the field. The beauty of Computer Science lay in its continuous evolution. It was a canvas that encouraged creativity and rewarded innovation. It was a discipline where learning was not a finite destination but an ongoing journey a prospect that excited rather than intimidated me. Exploring introductory programming languages was my gateway to understanding the power of coding. Witnessing lines of code manifest into tangible outputs was both empowering and addictive. It was the perfect blend of creativity and precision, where every semicolon had significance, and every function had a purpose. Moreover, the problem-solving aspect of Computer Science resonated deeply with me. The thrill of encountering a bug-riddled code and meticulously debugging it until it functioned flawlessly was a challenge I relished. It taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of meticulousness—a valuable lesson transcending the boundaries of programming. My dad’s veteran status isn’t just a part of his past; it’s a facet of our family’s present, a thread that weaves through our lives, infusing it with unique perspectives, resilience, and a deep sense of patriotism. Growing up, the echoes of his experiences as a serviceman resonated through our home. His stories, sometimes vividly detailed and at other times veiled in the quiet shadows of memory, painted a picture of sacrifice, honor, and camaraderie. I didn’t just hear about his service; I felt it in the unwavering sense of duty he instilled in me—the importance of integrity, discipline, and respect. While his time in the military might seem like a distant chapter, its impact on our family’s dynamics and values is palpable. The discipline and orderliness that characterized his military life subtly found their way into our household, shaping our routines and attitudes. There’s an unspoken understanding of the importance of responsibility, loyalty, and service ingrained in our family ethos. His veteran status serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals and families in service to our country. It’s a constant reminder of the fragility of peace, the importance of unity, and the value of freedom. It instills in me a profound sense of gratitude for the liberties I enjoy and the sacrifices made to secure them.

My name is Jason Johnson, I love sports and music. I plan to attend college majoring in Computer Science and play sports. My dad served in the Marine Corps, one of his brothers also served in the Marine Corps and served in the Army after his tour was over, another served in the Army. I also have a great uncle who retired as a Chief Warrant Officer(he made history as the first person to advance to the rank of CWO5 after its introduction), I have several cousins also serving in the Navy, and aunt and uncle who served in the Airforce. The military has had an impact on my life in a few ways. The structure that comes with having family who is serving keeps me grounded and what I have learned from my dad has kept me safe and out of trouble. I have peers who have either been to jail or have made decisions that they will never recover from. I see the difference in working hard for what I believe in and doing nothing at all, and I know how it feels to be proud of my involvement in doing the right thing. Being able to interact with my family who are serving and those who have served has taught me also to be a man of integrity, to have morals, and speak up for what I believe in. Also to be loyal and remain true to whatever and whomever I am connected to. The military lifestyle is characterized by a strong sense of community. The tight-knit bond among military families created a support system unlike any other. Whether it was organizing events, providing assistance during deployments, or simply offering a listening ear, the camaraderie within this community fostered a sense of belonging and unity. I witnessed firsthand the sacrifices made by service members and their families, developing a profound respect and appreciation for their dedication and selflessness. As a veteran dependent, my life has been shaped in profound ways by the influence of the military. Growing up in a household where sacrifice, duty, and service were integral values, I've experienced a unique perspective that has left an indelible mark on my character and outlook on life. It is my opinion that books have been the silent mentors guiding individuals towards shaping their thoughts, beliefs, and actions. They serve as windows into different worlds, offering insights and perspectives that can profoundly influence the way we perceive and interact with the world. For me, several books have been instrumental in shaping the impact I aspire to make in the world. The first book, "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by Susan Cain is one such book that significantly influenced my outlook. This insightful piece shed light on the strengths of introversion in a world that often celebrates extroverted qualities. It made me appreciate the power of introspection, deep thinking, and the value of quiet leadership. It inspired me to advocate for inclusivity and understanding of diverse personality types, influencing my desire to create spaces that accommodate and celebrate introverted individuals, fostering environments where their unique qualities are recognized and valued. Additionally, "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg, which is on of my favorites, unveiled the mechanics behind habits and the incredible potential for personal and societal change. It emphasized the significance of identifying and transforming habits for personal growth and societal progress. This book fueled my interest in behavioral psychology and solidified my belief in the transformative power of habits, steering me towards a focus on promoting positive behavioral changes that can ripple through communities, fostering constructive habits for a better world. Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers: The Story of Success" challenged conventional notions of success, emphasizing the role of opportunity, practice, and cultural legacy in achieving greatness. It shaped my belief in the importance of equal opportunities for all and highlighted the impact of community and cultural factors on individual success. This book ignited a passion within me to advocate for equal access to resources and opportunities, driving me to work towards creating platforms and systems that level the playing field for everyone, regardless of their background. Moreover, "Thinking, Fast and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman provided profound insights into the human mind and decision-making processes. It delineated the intricacies of our thought patterns, biases, and heuristics, enlightening me about the complexities that underlie human decision-making. This book instilled in me a deep-rooted interest in cognitive science and behavioral economics, motivating me to explore ways to apply this knowledge practically. I aim to utilize this understanding to develop interventions and policies that consider human cognition, fostering better decision-making in various spheres of life, thereby positively impacting individuals and communities. Each of these books, in its own right, has contributed to my vision of making a positive impact in the world. They collectively shaped my perspective on inclusivity, behavioral change, equal opportunities, and cognitive influences. These readings have inspired me to strive for a world where diversity is celebrated, habits are transformed for the better, opportunities are equitable, and decisions are made more mindfully. In conclusion, books hold immense power in shaping our aspirations and visions for the world. They act as catalysts, igniting the flames of change within us. The lessons learned from these books have collectively steered my ambitions towards creating a world that is more inclusive, equitable, and mindful, where individual strengths are celebrated, and opportunities are accessible to all, ultimately fostering a better and brighter future for everyone.
