Technology gives you knowledge but character decides how you use that knowledge․ Integrity‚ to me‚ is having the courage to do what is right even when nobody is watching and having the wisdom of God to know the difference between what is simply possible and what is truly right․ Integrity has always been one of the values I want to carry into every part of my life․ Success is empty unless you're a person of character․ As someone interested in working in professional cybersecurity‚ technology gives cybersecurity professionals tremendous power and tremendous responsibilities․ People trust cybersecurity professionals to protect their information‚ systems‚ businesses and communities․ I want to be someone who earns that trust by being honest‚ disciplined‚ accountable‚ and strong․ Faith has played an important part in me developing this system of values․ I pray for the wisdom of God to guide my decisions‚ and to help me stand my ground․ God's wisdom teaches me that some things are just not worth doing‚ and that how I do something is as important as what I do․ My faith teaches me to treat people with respect‚ to be humble when I succeed‚ and never to give up when things are challenging․ Because of these values‚ I graduated high school with dual credit courses‚ an Associate of Science (AS) degree‚ membership in the National Honor Society and continued my active participation in student government‚ sports and athletics․ I also competed in multiple cyber competitions including CyberPatriot‚ National Cyber League‚ CyberStart America and picoCTF․ What I learned is that those competitions require a lot of discipline and teamwork‚ and what I also learned is that doing your best means doing the work even if you're not lauded․ Baseball has reinforced that lesson․ There‚ as team captain and three-time First Team All-District player‚ I learned that leadership is not about having the loudest voice․ It is about setting an example․ Teammates see when you show up‚ work hard‚ pick people up‚ and take accountability when things don't go the way you want them to․ I have applied these lessons throughout my academic‚ community service‚ and personal pursuits․ Service has also shown me what integrity looks like in action‚ such as when I volunteered for DART's Santa Claus Christmas program distributing toys and gifts to families throughout the Dallas area․ I thought I was giving‚ but I received something from the experience as well: perspective․ Because people think that leadership is about what you can do for them‚ but it's really about what you are willing to do․ As a student at Clark Atlanta University with a Cybersecurity major and a Finance minor‚ I have come a long way․ I always remember Aaron B․ O'Reggio․ His discipline‚ leadership‚ and dedication are inspiration for me․ They taught me a technology career is about more than landing your dream job․ It should be about becoming the kind of person who deserves these opportunities‚ about using your expertise to empower others․ I want to be respected and valued in my field both for my knowledge and my character․ My faith will inform my wisdom and my values will inform my decisions․ My actions will be a demonstration of my character․

For a long time I thought strength was never being overwhelmed․ I have learned that it really is knowing when something is too hard‚ finding a constructive way to deal with it and moving on․ Anxiety has impacted many aspects of my life․ It's affected my schooling‚ it's affected my ability to make friends‚ and it's affected how I handle new situations․ Sometimes anxiety has blown things way out of proportion and made things seem bigger than they truly were․ Sometimes I've doubted myself‚ worried about the future‚ and placed expectations on myself that I know are unreasonable․ As a student heading into Clark Atlanta University‚ I have to find a way to not let those feelings dictate how my life ends up․ Education means everything to me‚ and I will not let my anxiety destroy what I worked for and convince me that I will never reach any of my goals! One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that when you overcome an obstacle or challenge‚ it does not mean that the challenge goes away․ It means you figure out how to cope․ I've tried to become more organized‚ to give myself some time to process a tough situation‚ to involve people that I trust‚ and to think about what I can affect rather than what could go wrong․ My experiences in school and beyond have helped me develop confidence․ Whether it be getting through a difficult class‚ doing a cybersecurity competition‚ being captain of the baseball team‚ or doing community service‚ I have learned that I can do hard things․ With each success‚ I found another reason to believe in myself․ My anxiety has also made me more empathetic․ You never know what someone has going on just below the surface of that smiling face․ I try harder when I see someone is quiet‚ overwhelmed‚ or unsure‚ simply because I remember what it was like․ I've learned that sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do for another person is just to let them know they're not alone․ As I begin my career at Clark Atlanta University as a Cybersecurity major and Finance minor‚ I know that college will be a blend of independence‚ athletics‚ and fresh opportunities‚ but it will also bring about added stress․ I know that having anxiety does not make me weak‚ and that asking for help when I need it does not make me incapable․ I will take the next step and face this chapter with my head held high․ I refuse to let this diagnosis define me‚ or for it to be all I focus on․ Instead‚ I want it to be a part of my story‚ that taught me resilience‚ patience‚ empathy‚ and self-awareness․ I never gave up on my dreams because my future is brighter and bigger than my present․ And while I feel anxiety‚ I don't give it the power of directing where my journey will lead․

Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Tell-Tale Heart" engages with this very question across the distance of the narrator's repeated assertions of their sanity and the events that cast doubt on every last one of them․ Thus‚ the mental effects of guilt and the consequences of self-delusion are apparent: the narrator's obsessive efforts to prove his sanity serve only to further highlight the insanity they are meant to hide․ The first sentence immediately establishes what position the narrator is in: he is defensive: "You fancy me mad․" He does not speak in an even tone and rationally explain himself: he takes an almost convicting tone․ This is interesting to consider because the narrator seems less interested in telling us what happened than in controlling how we interpret what happened: his repeated insistence that he is rational seems almost an argument he is having with himself․ Next‚ Poe gives the narrator another definition of sanity‚ in which the insane are ignorant: "Madmen know nothing"․ Immediately after‚ the narrator cites his intelligence‚ his caution‚ and his foresight․ This is revealing in that rather than showing emotional stability‚ he sees calm and reason as sanity‚ implying that he sees a systematic approach to something as rational by the nature that it can be planned․ This distinction is essential to understanding Poe's meaning․ Intelligence does not necessarily equate with sanity․ The narrator's ability to reason through a problem does not limit the power of a delusion‚ nor does it indicate that he is in a healthy mental state․ On the contrary‚ this ability makes his denial more credible․ The reference to "with what dissimulation I went to work" is worth noting since dissimulation means both hiding something and feigning an emotion that is not felt․ Thus‚ while not only concealing his intentions from the old man‚ the narrator is also performing his normal identity within the play‚ and enacting his facade of moral normalcy to others․ This performance of kindness culminates in the speaker claiming that he was never kinder to the old man than in the week before he murdered him․ This kindness‚ however‚ contradicts both the speaker's intention and his actions as he expresses his disturbing sense of control․ It is not out of compassion that he is kind; it is part of his preparation․ Poe makes a normal human characteristic into something sinister: kindness as a mask․ Here is one of Poe's principal themes․ A perpetrator can con a victim‚ but self-deceit is much harder․ The narrator thinks he has got it down pat because he was able to control himself․ He believes that if nobody else can see his intentions‚ then his intentions somehow remain separate from reality․ But the story later shows that guilt cannot be controlled in this manner‚ only behavior․ The narrator's attempts to prove his sanity are further evidence of his madness‚ and every time the narrator tries to rationalize / debunk a strange occurrence‚ it only serves as more evidence․ By justifying his actions and explaining his reasoning‚ the narrator feels he is maintaining a version of himself that is still smart‚ rational‚ and justified․ Poe's genius is that he never has to say‚ "This is an unreliable narrator․" The unreliability of the narrator is made explicit within the story itself‚ making the reader an audience of the narrator's mind‚ not just his story․ Thus‚ this paragraph is not just an ominous introduction to a character․ There is more within it than most readers would first assume․ It also establishes the story's key conflict‚ the tension between appearance and reality‚ and asks us to take advantage of what the narrator would have us interpret as careful conduct as evidence of rationality․ At the same time‚ paradoxically‚ the more a person tries to prove that everything has returned to normal‚ the more we can see that something is not quite right․ Ultimately‚ though‚ "The Tell-Tale Heart" can be understood as a study of how the mind processes information that is troubling and finds an explanation for the horrific crime․ He hopes to control the narrative and the reader and his own conscience․ He ironically gives himself away by trying to prove he is sane․ The narrator's failure is not that he cannot convince the reader of his innocence‚ but that he cannot convince himself․ Poe's most important moral is that while we can hide our actions from other people‚ we cannot hide their consequences from ourselves․ It is that‚ despite all his efforts‚ he cannot convince himself․

My faith isn't just about having something stored away in my heart; it should also extend to how I act toward other people and engage in service. Concord has taught me that sometimes service isn't about recognition of one's own efforts, but about being willing to show up, invest a small amount of time, and offer encouragement to someone who is lost or looking for guidance. It is my religion and my community that have shaped my understanding of what service, leadership, and my obligation to the community mean. Concord has also showed me that someone can't truly make a change until he is willing to look past himself. My work at my church led me to understand what it means to be in tune with other human beings and the incredible rewards received from being able to invest myself in someone who may have been placed in my path by God. I realized that you don't need fortune and money to help another person; sometimes the greatest gift you could offer someone is to invest time in listening or just being a person they can feel present with. The program that has had the most influence on me has been DART's Christmas gift program, where I helped distribute presents among people with the officers. Although this did not happen at my church, my faith at Concord guided me in how I handled the program and participated in it. It showed me that what I thought was about buying a gift for someone was really a gesture of love for humankind. Not only were people grateful for the physical gift, but they made time from their day to tell me that my presence mattered. I realized what my faith was telling me, which was that human beings helping and caring for one another was the greatest service they could offer. My faith has pushed me further to actively find outlets for ministrations, rather than just being told about something or waiting for instructions. Leadership also plays a role that I believe is tied very closely to my faith. In my terms as team captain in baseball, as a member of the National Honor Society, and as involved I've been in my school organizations, it has become increasingly evident that leadership goes hand in hand with service. Leadership isn't a title or a name, it's being able to have a great role model in myself. As I move to Clark Atlanta University to pursue my major in Cybersecurity, with an additional concentration in Finance, I want to take the skills I have learned with me. I hope for my college experience to involve programs where I can serve the community, but ultimately hope my career and personal endeavors lead to providing scholarship or internship opportunities for others less fortunate. It is not about personal wealth, but providing a driven individual with opportunity; faith and service will dictate how my education is put to use toward humanity, rather than success alone.

I thought I was going to give gifts at Christmas that day‚ not have a family I had never met give me one of the greatest gifts of my life a new understanding of what community truly means․ I've learned that you don't have to do great things to be great․ It started with a knock on a door for me․ I went along with the DART Santa Claus Christmas program to pass out gifts with DART police officers and other community volunteers to families across the Dallas area․ Before that day‚ I knew families were in need․ But knowing something and witnessing something are two very different experiences․ House after house‚ we met parents doing everything they could to provide for their children despite difficult circumstances․ This family would change me forever․ When we handed out the gifts to the children I thought they would be happiest to receive the gifts inside the boxes‚ but it was very emotional to see the gratitude from everyone in the family that someone cared enough to come visit․ They weren't just grateful for the gifts - they were grateful that complete strangers cared enough to show up․ In that moment‚ I realized that you don't always find hope in big things․ Hope is created when people choose to be there for one another․ That family was an example of leaders‚ service‚ and community for me․ And it taught me that communities are not held together by money but by human relationships․ Kindness tells people they matter․ Service reminds people they are not alone․ Often hope begins in one person being willing to give․ Watching the DART police officers and volunteers spend their own holiday season serving others was an inspiring and humbling experience‚ especially given the lack of recognition they seek․ They just wanted every family to know joy and dignity during the holidays‚ and they showed me that how we lead is determined by how much we are willing to lift others when no one is watching․ Those values stay with me in everything I do‚ whether I'm captain of my baseball team‚ a volunteer for my community‚ or incoming freshman at Clark Atlanta University to major in Cybersecurity․ I want people in my community to know that they are encouraged‚ valued and supported․ I want to impart in others my compassion‚ humility and service-minded spirit because I know how impactful that can be to them․ I want to positively impact the lives of young people through mentoring 1st generation college students and providing opportunities via community service and mentoring․ In time‚ I hope to provide scholarships of my own to contribute to this cause as well․ Success is most valuable to me if it gives hope to someone else․ The family that I met through DART's Santa Claus Christmas may never know how much they changed my life․ They taught me that communities are most powerfully built one relationship‚ one act of kindness‚ one moment of compassion at a time․ That is the future I hope to help build‚ where every individual is recognized‚ every young person feels that someone believes in them‚ and every opportunity I've had‚ I can help to open up for someone else․

"Every move matters․" That's one of the first things you learn in chess: make one move, you create a chance, you close another one․ Success is seldom one great thing, it is always the result of patience, preparation, resilience, and being able to adapt when the unexpected does strike․ As I started doing better both in school and in terms of my chess, I realized that chess is not just on the chess board․ It is played every day in the choices we make, the goals we pursue, and the obstacles we overcome․ This fall, I will be attending Clark Atlanta University where I will be studying Cybersecurity and playing baseball․ I want a career where I protect businesses and people from cyber threats․ I want to help people where there is a fear, I want to use my success to help young people, I want to help invest in communities that don't get investment, and I want to help invest in schools to provide opportunities for those that may not go to college or university for further education․ But chess has prepared me for that future in‌ ways I could never have expected․ Every game requires‌ discipline, critical thinking, and the ability to stay calm under pressure․ Before I make a move, I've got to assess what I can do, think about the problems that are‌ gonna be caused by it, and think ahead․ Same with my‌ education and my career․ As a‌ student-athlete struggling to maintain a balance of academics, leadership roles, community service, and baseball, I have found that careful planning, consistency, and perseverance lead to success․ Perhaps the greatest lesson that chess has taught‌ me is that defeat is not the end of the game․ When you lose a piece or‌ position, there is almost always another way to win․ That's a lesson that's stuck with‌ me ever since․ I had times in high school when it felt overwhelming balancing challenging classes with athletics and leadership roles, and chess taught me to adjust‌ instead of pout․ If it doesn't work, that doesn't mean‌ it's not possible․ It just means that we‌ need to approach it in a different way․ Another one of the lessons I learned was that every piece is useful․ In chess, you can turn the game with a pawn․ That has certainly been my perspective and outlook on people, that everyone has something special they can contribute․ Whether it is through community service, by serving as captain of my baseball team, or by helping my fellow classmates, I have found that it is best to be a leader by serving others․ Receiving the Adrin Ohaekwe Memorial Scholarship would allow me to focus on my studies and lessen the financial burden of attending college․ It would be an investment in someone who is sure to pay that opportunity forward and help their community along the way․ My dream is not just to graduate, but to someday be in a position to mentor students, give other young people opportunities to experience technology, and fund scholarships to help them achieve their goals․ Life is like chess․ Every problem is a new move․ Every mistake is a new strategy․ Every victory is one step closer to having purpose․ I try to make every move in my life meaningful for myself and for the generation of young people I'm trying to motivate․ If selected to receive this scholarship, I will represent Adrin Ohaekwe's legacy by furthering his impact with every step, milestone, and achievement through determination, responsible leadership, and accessibility for others․

You can't pour from an empty cup and for a long time‚ I thought success meant pretending mine was full․ As a student‚ athlete‚ and leader‚ mental health is important to me because it affects every aspect of a person's ability to learn‚ grow‚ and succeed․ Many focus on notice boards‚ grades‚ achievements and accomplishments and fail to see the stress‚ self-doubt and pressure faced by students․ I have learnt that taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health because both are essential for reaching your full potential․ One time I learned this lesson was when I tore a labrum in my shoulder in my sophomore year of high school․ Baseball had always been a huge part of my life․ My identity was wrapped around football․ When I couldn't play in my sophomore year I went crazy․ I had an injury but it wasn't necessarily that that affected me as much as the realization that my worth wasn't based on what happened on the football field․ I also learned the importance of mental resilience‚ self-care‚ and having a support network․ Mental health is important to me because I know that many students struggle with things in silence․ Academic‚ family‚ financial and future uncertainties affect the mental health of many young people from various backgrounds․ It's hard being a first-generation college student‚ low-income‚ and then the expectation of succeeding not just for yourself‚ but for the people who sacrificed for you is also a lot to bear at a young age․ I am a mental health advocate․ I try to create an environment around me that is comfortable for talking about mental health․ As captain of the baseball team‚ I tried to lead by example․ I would cheer them up‚ check in on them on the side if I sensed that they were a little down․ I would encourage them not to feel ashamed to ask for help․ This taught me the importance of listening to others and being kind‚ lessons I learned through my participation in Student Council and community service activities․ Most importantly‚ I advocate for mental health by treating people with compassion and kindness․ Sometimes‚ the most powerful thing you can do is let someone know they are not alone․ Whether it's a conversation‚ a word of encouragement‚ or just being willing to listen‚ everything makes a difference․ As I prepare to attend Clark Atlanta University‚ I hope to continue working to overcome the stigma of mental health by creating authentic relationships and conversations․ Mental health access is essential because every student should be able to succeed as a student and for who they are as a whole․ When we invest in mental well-being we create stronger students‚ stronger communities and a stronger future․

C) The Boy Who Built Possibilities Most of us picture the mad genius as someone locked up in a laboratory full of strange machines‚ speaking in equations nobody else understands․ That's what I used to think․ Then‚ when I was in my sophomore year of high school‚ The funny thing is‚ I saw him in the mirror every morning․ This was not the time when I felt like a genius․ I felt broken․ But a torn labrum in my shoulder had taken me out of baseball‚ the game upon which I had built my life - practice‚ games and training sessions‚ they had all disappeared․ But at that very moment‚ I was sitting in the dugout and couldn't do what I used to․ I was angry at the world for weeks․ Why me? Why now? How had all of my hard work only been able to result in a bench? One day‚ after an especially frustrating physical therapy appointment‚ I was walking down the hall and peeked into a classroom of students who were working on a robotics project; tables covered with wires‚ and tiny motors buzzing․ Computer screens filled with lines of code․ The robot wasn't working․ One student blamed the software․ Another blamed the hardware․ A third said the battery was defective․ Everyone had a theory․ Nobody had a solution․ For some reason‚ I stayed․ Part of it was that I knew what it felt like to be broken․ The robot was a lot like me․ Instead of arguing over what's wrong‚ I started to wonder‚ what if the problem wasn't with the motor? What if this code tried to send contradictory signals? What if the failure was simply caused by half a dozen little problems? Hours passed․ The room grew quieter․ Ideas turned into experiments․ Experiments turned into answers․ Eventually‚ the robot moved․ Not perfectly․ Not gracefully․ But it moved․ The room went wild‚ though․ And I learned something about the nature of genius․ A mad genius is not someone who has the answer․ But a mad genius is someone stubborn enough to keep looking for it․ For the next few months‚ I became a problem solver․ I read about tech‚ cybersecurity‚ and robotics while in recovery from my injury․ I have found in my journey that innovation is not about being perfect‚ but about being curious and not accepting that something can't be improved․ I began to see "mad geniuses"․ A single mother is working two jobs to support her family․ Additionally‚ teachers found creative ways to motivate students․ In coaches helping athletes to believe when they failed․ It was scientists‚ engineers‚ entrepreneurs‚ and dreamers who looked at impossible challenges and said‚ "Let's try anyway․" The more I thought about it‚ the more I saw that every breakthrough in history first happened with someone who decided to think differently․ Someone who was willing to be called crazy before being called brilliant․ As I prepare to take on my studies in Computer Science and Cybersecurity‚ I am reminded that the world of technology is changing at an ever-faster pace‚ with each day bringing new challenges․ The future belongs to those who are willing to challenge the assumptions of the present‚ to experiment with failure․ That is what a mad genius looks like to me․ Not a villain․ Not a superhero․ Just an ordinary person who refuses to stop asking questions․ Because sometimes the most revolutionary thing you can do is believe there is a solution hiding where everyone else sees a dead end․ And sometimes that person who can find that quiet is the one looking back at you in the mirror․

One of the most fulfilling projects where my tinkering skills and problem-solving abilities made an impact was building a robot with some other students․ The robot was really neat‚ but I remember it most fondly because of how it brought us together as a group of friends‚ as well as being our first taste of the wonders of technology․ One of the biggest challenges we faced early on in the project was figuring out how all of these different parts would work together‚ troubleshooting hardware problems‚ and changing things when our initial ideas didn't work․ Sometimes I felt like every solution created a new problem․ Instead of getting frustrated‚ I enjoyed the challenge of a new puzzle‚ of figuring out how to work around a new obstacle․ I helped other people on the team troubleshoot and understand how certain parts of the robot worked․ I helped people learn how to assemble certain pieces of the robot‚ test the robot's movements‚ or troubleshoot problems when something wasn't working․ It was a great experience being part of a team that built something from scratch․ It made me realize that technology is not just about creating things but also about solving problems and helping other people learn along the way․ My best memory? I think it was just seeing the joy of my classmates‚ my teachers and everybody else in the school when we finally revealed the robot after weeks of working on it‚ and they were amazed․ Some of the students asked me questions about how the robot worked and how we built it‚ and it felt good to know that people were interested in our project․ For someone who grew up interested in technology yet had limited access to STEM opportunities‚ the opportunity to contribute to a project that inspired many people reminded me of how hands-on learning experiences can change the course of people's lives․ It showed me how technology can inspire innovation and motivate others to challenge the way problems are solved in the future․ Through my life experience I would like to attend Clark Atlanta University to major in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity as a way to further my technical skills and help other people․ Whether it is in building things‚ teaching younger students‚ or showing the beauty of STEM to others‚ I want my work with technology to help others․ Building that robot taught me that the most valuable creation is not simply the product of our labor‚ it is the excitement‚ confidence‚ and inspiration we create in others․

" A strong, black woman who served as both mother and role model" may be a description for the Most Influential Individual in Your Life. However, although my mother is part of the LGBTQIA community, I have only ever seen her as 'mom.' -the person who has always been the sole provider of meals for my family and met all of our needs, who has always believed in me, and sacrificed so that I may have opportunities she never had. As a result, I've realized that my definition of my mother was a little different from some other peoples'. Over time, I have witnessed others within society making assumptions and passing judgment, often times based on nothing more than sexuality. I've felt the sting of this, simply because I am her son, and I knew who she truly was. I knew she had a good heart. I knew how hard she had worked to ensure my success and I knew her undying love, and commitment to the people she cared about. And I felt deeply for what others had shown, - judgments against people's character, solely because of who they were with, and who they'd been with. I was raised to support and stand for the underserved, and this was where I first came to believe that maybe, if we could really come to understand each other and our circumstances, that we could eliminate all forms of hatred. I believe all humans should have the right to be loved and accepted for exactly who they are - not what color we may be, not our sexual preferences, but rather the goodness and integrity of character we possess. As I go on with my passions for computers and my journey toward college, I will still carry on a legacy of standing up for others, and speaking for their acceptance, and equality. I look to utilize the skills that I will be taught and cultivated through my studies toward Computer Science at Clark Atlanta University to help make many more beneficial changes in the world. However, I don't wish to "make a difference;" I just want to do what my mother did for me - to provide leadership and help uplift others with my actions. My mom, a strong, black woman, has already shown me the path to success and given me inspiration to give back, and I look forward to what may lie ahead - in uncertainty but also with hope that we may see others judged not on their sex appeal or the company that they keep, but on the quality of their being.

As a first generation student‚ I know that I carry both responsibility and opportunity‚ but as an African American student‚ I view my experience in higher education not as an individual experience‚ but also as an opportunity for my family and future generations․ I am the first member of my family to attend a four year college and want to take advantage of this opportunity to make a lasting impact on my community․ Throughout my high school career I have worked hard to be the best student and athlete that I can be․ I have worked hard at both my studies (achieving a 5․18 GPA) and my baseball career․ By continuing to work I made First Team All-District three times and was a positive leader on my team․ Through athletics‚ I have learned discipline‚ accountability‚ and perseverance; values that have helped me tackle many different challenges on and off the field․ One of the biggest challenges I have had to overcome is getting through the college process without having experienced it firsthand․ A lot of kids get help from their families because their parents went to college‚ and that's something I've never had․ So instead of allowing those obstacles to discourage me‚ I sought guidance from the counselors‚ teachers‚ coaches and mentors who believed in my abilities․ They taught me that it's okay to ask questions‚ seek support‚ and remain focused on my goals when the path forward is unclear․ Having volunteered as a member of the Student Council‚ I am familiar with the idea of helping the community․ I have participated in food drives to provide food for families․ I volunteered with the DART police officers as a representative of their DART Santa program‚ where we'd go to homes to visit with children and families and give gifts during the holidays․ I also participated in community service efforts․ I've learned that sometimes even the smallest act can mean a lot to someone․ It was these experiences that inspired me to become someone who not only is successful‚ but helps create success for others․ This fall‚ I will attend Clark Atlanta University‚ where I will study Computer Science with a concentration on Cybersecurity and a minor in Finance․ I have a goal to work in technology helping organizations‚ and people be safe in an even more digital world․ With the increasing influence of technology on the future‚ I would like to use my education to help solve problems‚ create opportunities‚ and inspire younger generations․ I also want to give back to my community․ Whether it's mentoring students‚ helping to grow STEM opportunities or creating pathways for students who do not always see those opportunities available‚ I want to pay it forward․ I have learned that there is so much more to success than awards and accomplishments․ I hope to one day break barriers through education‚ leadership‚ and service․ I hope my biggest accomplishment is making my family proud and bettering the lives of those in my community․ This scholarship would ease the financial burden of college at a time when I need to focus on my studies‚ leadership development‚ and community service․ Beyond the financial aspect‚ it would help support and motivate a student who intends to use his education and skills to make a positive impact․ As a first-generation college student‚ I am determined to maximize every opportunity I am given‚ and to pave the road for others who will follow after me․

Growing up raised by a single mom was one of the most shaping experiences of my life․ I didn't realize it then‚ but the strength‚ sacrifice and resilience it took my mother to raise me and provide me with opportunities for my future shaped everything I am today․ Seeing her push through every day‚ keeping our family first and herself last‚ made me the man I am today and taught me lessons no school could․ I saw my mother do the work of both parents when she worked hard to feed us‚ to give me what I needed‚ and to encourage me to pursue what I wanted․ There were times when money was tight and she had to make sacrifices‚ but she always found a way to make sure I was catered to․ It's only now I realize that there were times that she was doing things for me that I didn't realize because I was a kid‚ building a better future for myself․ As a child raised by a single parent‚ I have learned at an early age that life is not about chance or luck․ It is about discipline and determination․ Achievement is not a gift; it is something that must be earned․ Watching her keep pushing in spite of the odds helped me out‚ too․ Whenever I started to have trouble or struggle with school‚ sports‚ or anything else in life‚ I would think about what my mom went through and realize that quitting was not an option․ It also taught me gratitude and that I should be thankful for opportunities I may otherwise take for granted․ Whether it was to play baseball‚ get a good education‚ or make myself college material‚ I understood that I was able to do so because of the things my mother went through and the sacrifices she made‚ and I wanted to give my best․ Seeing my single mother work so hard to provide for us‚ I learned the values of empathy‚ responsibility and compassion․ I also saw the challenges that many families face and wanted to help out․ Through volunteer work‚ food drives‚ and community service‚ I try and give back because I know how much this can mean for those who need it․ While getting ready to go to college and begin my career in cybersecurity‚ I still realize the strength my mother had and the sacrifices she made for me․ She taught me to appreciate what I have․ Her love taught me to serve․ Everything I hope to accomplish is built on the foundation she worked so hard to create‚ and for that‚ I will always be grateful․ I want to give back․ I want to help students and disadvantaged communities by mentoring them‚ making a difference in the lives of the next generation of professionals‚ and helping them access opportunities that could turn their lives around․ I want to make my community better because of the belief others had in me‚ which has allowed me to pursue my dreams․ With the help of education‚ service‚ and leadership‚ I believe I can honor those investments by helping others reach their full potential․

It was the most difficult thing‌ I ever went through․ Grief is a hard thing to describe‚ but‌ it accompanies you in every part of your life․ You‌ won't just miss your parent when they die‚ you'll miss out on the conversations you'll never have‚ the milestones you'll never reach together‚ and the security of knowing that someone will always be there to guide you․ Time has helped me‌ deal with the loss but my dad's death has impacted me in levels that I will always carry with me․ I think the hardest thing I‌ really had to do was try to come to terms with moving on but also carrying that around with me․ There were days where it's hard to‌ focus on school‚ athletics and the future․ I often felt like I had the burden‌ of being strong for everyone else around me․ But more often‌ than not‚ I would have liked to complain about how things weren't fair‚ that I shouldn't have to go through important moments in my life without the one I wanted most․ But I think if my dad were around‚ he wouldn't want his absence to be an excuse for me not to pursue my dreams and make the most‌ of the opportunities I've been given․ Baseball became one of the most important‌ outlets in my life during that time․ It gave me something to bring some‌ structure to my life․ It gave me a place where I could focus my energy‚ challenge myself‚ and‌ find support from teammates and coaches․ Baseball taught me discipline‚ resilience‚ and‌ perseverance․ It taught‌ me that setbacks do not have to define a person and that success often comes from continuing to move forward when things are difficult․ The lessons I learned on the field also‌ helped me cope with challenges off the field․ Using my past three years as a First Team All-District player and a team captain‚ I've‌ learned that being a leader is not about being the best‚ it is about making others better and setting the right example․ That became even more important when my father passed away‚ because‌ we learn from one another and we become stronger through helping one another․ I will turn this tragedy into a triumph by living my life in his honor․ So after I finish high school‚ I will be attending Clark Atlanta University to obtain a degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity․ More importantly‚ I want to use my experiences to make a difference in the lives of others who are in similar situations by being a mentor‚ helping in my community‚ and being a leader to show young people that the odds do not define their future․ The loss of my father will always leave a hole in my heart․ However‚ the meaning of discipline‚ gratitude and purpose through adversity that I learned through tragedy is more powerful․ He inspires me to wake up every day and work hard and serve others and be the kind of person he would be proud of․

I care deeply about giving back to my community and about taking action․ My family taught me that no one achieves success on their own․ It is built through the sacrifices of family members‚ the guidance of mentors‚ the support of teachers and coaches and the willingness of communities to invest in their young people․ Because so many people have poured into me‚ I feel a responsibility to give back and help create opportunities for others․ I will be attending Clark Atlanta University as a first generation college student․ I know the difference that an education can make‚ but I have experienced uncertainty in life at various points․ Applying to colleges‚ applying for financial aid and scholarships‚ preparing to go into the work force‚ all of that seemed overwhelming․ Nobody in my family had done that before‚ there was no blueprint to work with‚ so I did wonder at times if I would be able to overcome these challenges․ But through my persistence‚ the encouragement of friends and my commitment to what I wanted‚ I kept going․ Through my experience‚ I've learned that I want to pursue a Computer Science degree with a focus in Cybersecurity․ I am passionate about technology and believe that it can be utilized to bring value to lives․ In this day and age‚ technology‚ information‚ and cybersecurity play a pivotal role in educational‚ vocational‚ and economic opportunities․ However‚ many communities‚ particularly those in marginalized and disadvantaged positions‚ still do not have basic access to these kinds of resources․ I want to help remove these barriers with my education․ One way that I would like to give back to my community is by exposing younger students to careers in STEM‚ because many students will not consider careers in technology simply because they have never been exposed to the field․ I want to volunteer with schools‚ community centers‚ and youth organizations to teach technology skills‚ cyber security‚ and digital literacy․ When kids from my community see me coming from a similar background‚ I want them to know they can also have a career in the STEM space in the future․ I have already done my part in service: joining Student Council‚ running food drives‚ and volunteering as an elf with DART Santa‚ all hoping to positively impact the families and individuals‚ and I learned from the experience․ For me‚ I think it was that change often starts with simple acts of service․ To me‚ leadership is not about being recognized but about creating opportunities for people around you․ Baseball has also helped me to grow in the commitment to community around me․ I was a three-time First Team All-District player and captain for my team‚ which taught me accountability‚ teamwork‚ and leading by example․ Now‚ I pass those lessons on as I work to serve others throughout my life․ Clark Atlanta University is more than just a school for me; it is an opportunity for me to grow as a leader‚ scholar‚ and servant of my community․ I want to do more than establish a career in cybersecurity․ I want to give back․ I want to help students and disadvantaged communities by mentoring them‚ making a difference in the lives of the next generation of professionals‚ and helping them access opportunities that could turn their lives around․ I want to make my community better because of the belief others had in me‚ which has allowed me to pursue my dreams․ With the help of education‚ service‚ and leadership‚ I believe I can honor those investments by helping others reach their full potential․

A project I'm most proud of is helping to design and build a robot during a STEM program in high school․ It was a fun‚ technical challenge but‚ most importantly‚ I've taken away from that project how to work as a team‚ solve problems‚ and build something with technology to take an idea to reality․ It was one of the first experiences that showed me how powerful technology can be when people work together to create solutions․ This caused me and my team to really think through every step of the project‚ working through the hardware issues‚ testing things in different configurations‚ and making adjustments when things did not work as expected․ Progress was sometimes slow and frustrating‚ with components failing‚ programming errors being made‚ and solutions that looked mathematically perfect failing in practice for reasons at first unknown․ Rather than give up‚ we learned to adapt‚ communicate better and keep iterating on the design until it was just right․ One of the things I enjoyed the most was to see technology transform a collection of parts into a machine that could perform tasks and respond to commands․ Seeing the robot perform tasks successfully after countless hours of design and testing gave me a sense of accomplishment like I had never experienced before․ It showed me that technology is much more than code and hardware․ It is a tool to help people solve problems‚ innovate‚ and elevate lives․ My experience pushed me to get a degree in Computer Science‚ majoring in Cybersecurity‚ from Clark Atlanta University․ I was drawn to technology because it is always changing and creating new opportunities․ Every new advance has the potential to connect people‚ protect their information‚ improve how businesses run‚ and expand their opportunity․ As the world becomes more digitally connected‚ there will be more demand for people who can secure and drive those systems to improve them․ Outside of technology‚ I'm really interested in the positive impact that technology can have on communities‚ and how access to technology can help bridge educational and economic divides for underserved student populations․ I hope to use my education and career to help build secure technology‚ and help encourage young people to pursue education and careers in STEM․ Through my work on the robotics project‚ I learned that innovation starts with curiosity and persistence‚ and that collaboration‚ courage‚ and creativity are also key․ Above all‚ my robotics project confirmed my passion for technology as the best field to apply my problem-solving skills and creativity to make positive contributions to the world․

I always had an interest in how things work․ I grew up with computers․ I would wonder‚ how does an application work? How does a network work? If you'd told me a pencil was the hardest thing Jason Gardner dealt with in the past week‚ I would have laughed․ Not a championship game‚ not a tough test‚ not a life-altering decision a pencil․ He first remembers seeing the episode on a Monday morning during calculus class․ The night before he stayed up late doing homework and studying for a test․ When I got to school I reached into my bag and realized my favorite mechanical pencil was missing․ For everyone else‚ it was a pencil․ For Jason‚ it was the pencil․ He had been using it for nearly two years․ Every test‚ every paper‚ every draft of a scholarship application had been written with it․ The grip was worn down to fit his hand‚ the clicker had just the right amount of give․ It felt like a lucky talisman․ He looked everywhere‚ in his baseball bag‚ his car‚ even in every pocket of his backpack․ Nothing․ So he borrowed pencils from fellow students the rest of that day․ One was the wrong thickness‚ another squeaked on the paper when he wrote with it․ One broke its lead every few minutes․ By Wednesday the pencil was on his mind all the time‚ and his friends were giving him a hard time for loving a pencil more than baseball․ "Maybe I do‚" Jason said‚ half laughing‚ half serious․ The next Thursday afternoon he retraced every step he had taken that week‚ even checking classrooms‚ the cafeteria and the library․ One day‚ just as he was about to give up‚ he noticed something shining under one of the library bookshelves․ There it was․ His pencil․ He picked it up as if he were an archaeologist digging up a priceless artifact‚ and laughed at himself․ He had been worried about it all week‚ and it had cost less than five dollars․ On his way home‚ he realizes that it wasn't the pencil that was wrong‚ but what it represented to him; the all-nighters‚ the years spent just working to get into college‚ and pushing himself just to get a little closer to his dream․ Losing it feels like losing a little of that․ The next morning‚ he used the pencil while taking a calculus exam and ended up getting one of the top grades․ Did the pencil really help him? Probably not․ But sometimes‚ the biggest things‚ the things that make you the happiest or most sad‚ are the smallest things․ Most people would think a missing pencil was no big deal‚ but Jason knew better․

Soobin is my bias because of his leadership qualities‚ humility and kindness․ He shows that‚ as a leader‚ you do not have to be the loudest person in the room‚ you should help others․ 4․ Who is your ult bias‚ if any‚ of any group? Soobin is my ultimate bias because he has the kind of personality and leadership that I aspire to be like as a student‚ athlete‚ and volunteer․ 5․ What is your favorite TXT song‚ and why? My favorite TXT song has to be "Blue Hour" because it imparts a message that one can be happy and close to others even when times are uncertain․ 6․ Have you seen TXT live in concert? So far‚ I haven't had the chance to see TXT live in concert‚ but it's something that I hope to experience in the future․ 7․ What was your favorite album concept‚ and why? Growing up raised by a single mom was one of the most shaping experiences of my life․ I didn't realize it then‚ but the strength‚ sacrifice and resilience it took my mother to raise me and provide me with opportunities for my future shaped everything I am today․ Seeing her push through every day‚ keeping our family first and herself last‚ made me the man I am today and taught me lessons no school could․ I saw my mother do the work of both parents when she worked hard to feed us‚ to give me what I needed‚ and to encourage me to pursue what I wanted․ There were times when money was tight and she had to make sacrifices‚ but she always found a way to make sure I was catered to․ It's only now I realize that there were times that she was doing things for me that I didn't realize because I was a kid‚ building a better future for myself․ As a child raised by a single parent‚ I have learned at an early age that life is not about chance or luck․ It is about discipline and determination․ Achievement is not a gift; it is something that must be earned․ Watching her keep pushing in spite of the odds helped me out‚ too․ Whenever I started to have trouble or struggle with school‚ sports‚ or anything else in life‚ I would think about what my mom went through and realize that quitting was not an option․ It also taught me gratitude and that I should be thankful for opportunities I may otherwise take for granted․ Whether it was to play baseball‚ get a good education‚ or make myself college material‚ I understood that I was able to do so because of the things my mother went through and the sacrifices she made‚ and I wanted to give my best․ Seeing my single mother work so hard to provide for us‚ I learned the values of empathy‚ responsibility and compassion․ I also saw the challenges that many families face and wanted to help out․ Through volunteer work‚ food drives‚ and community service‚ I try and give back because I know how much this can mean for those who need it․ While getting ready to go to college and begin my career in cybersecurity‚ I still realize the strength my mother had and the sacrifices she made for me․ She taught me to appreciate what I have․ Her love taught me to serve․ Everything I hope to accomplish is built on the foundation she worked so hard to create‚ and for that‚ I will always be grateful․

It was the most difficult thing‌ I ever went through․ Grief is a hard thing to describe‚ but‌ it accompanies you in every part of your life․ You‌ won't just miss your parent when they die‚ you'll miss out on the conversations you'll never have‚ the milestones you'll never reach together‚ and the security of knowing that someone will always be there to guide you․ Time has helped me‌ deal with the loss but my dad's death has impacted me in levels that I will always carry with me․ I think the hardest thing I‌ really had to do was try to come to terms with moving on but also carrying that around with me․ There were days where it's hard to‌ focus on school‚ athletics and the future․ I often felt like I had the burden‌ of being strong for everyone else around me․ But more often‌ than not‚ I would have liked to complain about how things weren't fair‚ that I shouldn't have to go through important moments in my life without the one I wanted most․ But I think if my dad were around‚ he wouldn't want his absence to be an excuse for me not to pursue my dreams and make the most‌ of the opportunities I've been given․ Baseball became one of the most important‌ outlets in my life during that time․ It gave me something to bring some‌ structure to my life․ It gave me a place where I could focus my energy‚ challenge myself‚ and‌ find support from teammates and coaches․ Baseball taught me discipline‚ resilience‚ and‌ perseverance․ It taught‌ me that setbacks do not have to define a person and that success often comes from continuing to move forward when things are difficult․ The lessons I learned on the field also‌ helped me cope with challenges off the field․ Using my past three years as a First Team All-District player and a team captain‚ I've‌ learned that being a leader is not about being the best‚ it is about making others better and setting the right example․ That became even more important when my father passed away‚ because‌ we learn from one another and we become stronger through helping one another․ I will turn this tragedy into a triumph by living my life in his honor․ So after I finish high school‚ I will be attending Clark Atlanta University to obtain a degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity․ More importantly‚ I want to use my experiences to make a difference in the lives of others who are in similar situations by being a mentor‚ helping in my community‚ and being a leader to show young people that the odds do not define their future․ The loss of my father will always leave a hole in my heart․ However‚ the meaning of discipline‚ gratitude and purpose through adversity that I learned through tragedy is more powerful․ He inspires me to wake up every day and work hard and serve others and be the kind of person he would be proud of․

Should I have been offered the opportunity to start a business with my deceased sibling, my motivation would not have been for money or success, but simply for the chance to have more time with them and learn more from them. I would like to be able to build the business with them for some purpose that would help the local community, perhaps it could be a sports academy or a community outreach center that encourages young people and adults to play an active part in their communities. I hope that they too could see the benefit of such a project and we would be able to work together to guide them to the kind of success we would have shared. If I were to be offered such a business venture, it would be with a particular aim, one which would involve working to benefit the wider world, not simply accumulating riches. If I were to have started a business with my lost sibling, I can think of no better way than to have been able to ask them many questions and to find out the extent to which they had thought of my progress. How would they have advised me on the paths I have taken or thought of the successes I have experienced? It is impossible to say whether I would ever have been able to question them had they not died, as I could never have imagined them dying. Starting a business together, therefore, would be invaluable. The business venture could aim to share our experiences so that others can learn from what we knew and would be aimed at creating a positive impact.

There are books that teach a lesson beyond the pages on which they were printed. Throughout my academic experience, I have read countless of texts, but only one has managed to leave such a profound impact on me. William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies is not just about a band of young boys trapped on a secluded island; rather it is a novel that explores leadership, human nature, responsibility, and the ethical choice. The values of Lord of the Flies have played a huge role in my vision of the man I will become and the pursuit of the goal I hold dear. One lesson I’ve taken from Lord of the Flies is leadership is a test of integrity and self-discipline. While Ralph, the novel’s leader in its initial phase, try to keep things orderly and focused on survival, Jack succumbs to the temptation of power and greed. The conflict between the two illustrates that the leadership can be unifying, yet at the same time, it could be isolating. As a team captain, three time First Team All District baseball player, the book reinforces the lessons I have already applied to my endeavors true leadership is putting other people’s interest ahead of your own, and remaining focused on your main objective, regardless of obstacle or hardship. Lord of the Flies also instills the importance of being accountable for one’s actions. The absence of rules, regulations and any governing structure causes the boys’ behaviour to become wild and detrimental; in this book I realized that accountability is essential in the achievement of success. Whether on the baseball field, in the classroom, or in the community, I believe discipline is necessary for meaningful accomplishment. Last but not least, the book underscores the value of a community. Also‚ Golding's message is still relevant today‚ as humans wage war on each other using fear‚ division‚ and power․ In politics‚ conflict‚ and international affairs‚ humans today still seek others out as enemies‚ instead of recognizing and apologizing for their own flaws and biases․ Golding implies that laws and order in a civilized society can only function if the underlying morality is there to support them․ He would say the most important part of civilization is not abiding by laws and rules when there is law and order‚ but choosing to be nice and temperate‚ and accept responsibility for your own actions when nobody else is there to do it․ Thus‚ having seen the power of the "beast" within ourselves‚ we may be better prepared to avoid the kinds of conflict and destruction Golding feared everywhere․ When we as human beings are separated and cease to value the common purpose we share, we descend into chaos, this book teaches us why that is the case. These lessons are relevant for me today as I get ready to pursue my education in Computer Science, Computer Science & Engineering concentration in Cybersecurity with a minor in Financial services in Atlanta, GA to study at Clark Atlanta University in order to gain the necessary tools and knowledge that would help me utilize technology as tool to assist others, with leadership at its helm.

To me, education equals opportunity. Education is opportunity because my parents worked incredibly hard for us to come to America to provide a life full of success for us. But in that process, a very limited education was all they were able to attain, which means to come to college means I have the opportunity to achieve even more. Education means I will also gain more opportunities and success not just for myself, but for my family as well who have sacrifices and helped so much, I would really feel it’s a way of giving back to them in that regard. The opportunities I’ve gained in high school I feel that I have made the most out of those opportunities- academically, personally, athletically. In my academic path at Lancaster High School I currently stand with a 5.18 GPA, graduating at the top of my class due to dual credit classes andrigorous academic programs. Balancing rigorous coursework with part-time work, student leadership, and being an all-district varsity baseball player, demands high levels of time management, responsibility, and perseverance - traits that are carried in both the classroom and beyond. On May of 2020 I received my letter of acceptance from Clark Atlanta University where I plan on double majoring in computer science (specializing in Cybersecurity) and finance. Computer science fascinates me due to my inquisitiveness about the structure of technology. Specifically, I’m enthralled by the development and security of these structures; my fascination lies in how they work and how they can be exploited or strengthened. I’m incredibly drawn to Cybersecurity, as technology dominates much of modern society, it is essential to be prepared to adapt to ever evolving threats. Being equipped with knowledge and skill in this area opens a plethora of opportunities for growth, including the ability to secure our future generations’ use of technology. On the field, however, nothing has prepared me for life’s obstacles more than the game of baseball. Not only am I driven in the classroom but I also take pride in my success on the baseball diamond. Three times during my career I have received First Team All-District Honors. On top of receiving accolades, I have the honor to serve as captain of my high school team. The field teaches us about leadership, persistence, the power of a group coming together for a common goal, and it has taught me a lot of valuable lessons that can’t be learned in a classroom. Perseverance, leadership, focus on long-term goals in face of any obstacles. I experienced this firsthand in my junior year of high school when I injured myself, tearing a labrum. After my torn labrum injury in the middle of the baseball season, the road to recovery was incredibly challenging and frustrating. I was determined to come back and continue playing for my team, even if the process meant being sidelined for months, and it’s in moments of hardship like those where perseverance pays off. The path of giving back to the community began when my high school partnered with a school for deaf students to perform plays, sing songs, and even help them practice some english phrases. During this time I felt the power of unity in creating something great, I also engaged in many student council projects that included many volunteers for many food drives where I’ve witnessed and have felt how impactful giving back could be for many communities. Additionally, while umpire baseball games I developed skills like communication, conflict resolution, quick thinking under pressure. Being an ump helped develop many valuable and transferable job skills that have not only bettered me as a team player but also developed leadership capabilities and responsibility. Above all, while proud of my achievements, my greatest accomplishment is maintaining the dedication to manage my workload – class schedule, part-time work, community service initiatives and of course baseball. The ability to balance those various, demanding responsibilities is a testament to my resilience, determination and commitment to succeed. Financial support through this scholarship would directly ease the financial burden and pressure that my family and I would face over the next four years, freeing up my energy to solely focus on maximizing my academic and professional growth. As a first-generation student, I recognize this scholarship as a unique opportunity not only to secure my future but also to be an example of what hard work and dedication can yield. I plan to use this scholarship to make my own path to success, and to provide the same opportunities for others. Entering into the computer science and finance programs at Clark Atlanta University, I will carry with me the resilience of an athlete and the tenacity of a student who recognizes the opportunity he has. My goal is to achieve graduation with little to no student debt, pursue a fulfilling career in cybersecurity, and use the knowledge and experience I gain to foster positive change in my community by inspiring young aspiring STEM enthusiasts through mentorship and to ensure that the underrepresented communities have access to resources and opportunities within this sector of technological progress.

To me, selflessness means going out of your way, offering your time, talent and effort to help other without the expectation of a return. Selflessness entails recognizing an individual’s needs and going above and beyond to provide solutions. Although I have invested an enormous amount of time in academics and sports, I see self-interest, ultimately, as a selfish way of living since what matters is how you help others. From my first year of high school, I have actively searched for ways to help and engage my community. The single most memorable act of selflessness I engaged in was by being involved in the DART Santa program. In partnership with the DART police, I help in delivering gifts to families during Christmas break. The expression of joy and gratitude from children, and parents, is a reflection of the enormous impact of these gifts, and a reminder of how some basic human services can make a tremendous difference in an individual’s life. Holidays are typically a struggle financially, and my involvement allowed me to alleviate some of these worries. Another opportunity to show selflessness was by leading food drives for Student Council. This drive provided necessities, food items to the underprivileged in my community, and although a considerable amount of time and effort was put in the collection of donations, the thought of being able to make a tangible difference is very rewarding. Through food drive, I realized the kind of influence our community can have in an individual’s life when we are willing to work together. Selflessness also impacted my ability to be an effective leader and teammate. While a three time All-District baseball player, and team captain, I learn that leadership isn’t all about recognition, but is more about grooming team mates, their improvement and their success at the expense of individual success. Through leading younger players, support group for those going through challenges, and positive example, I began to realize that empowering other people to be successful is very important. These were formative experiences which led me to become the person I am today. I discover that selflessness doesn’t really need extravagant act but ordinary deed to enhance the lives of others. As I continue to pursue my degree at Clark Atlanta University, focusing in Computer Science with a concentration in Cyber Security, I will continue to dedicate myself in serving the community by volunteering and mentoring other students in technology education. My aim will be to provide support to those following me through their education, with their journey. I do believe when you extend a hand of selflessness to support others, not only can we support others, we elevate ourselves.

Growing up in a low-income environment made me realize how much hard work, responsibility, and perseverance meant. I saw early on that there was never going to be an easy way to attain goals; in my household you have to grind to accomplish things. Seeing my parents sacrifice so much to put food on the table also helped me to take school extremely seriously. Being a three time first team All-District baseball player, maintaining a 5.2 GPA and staying involved in extracurricular activities I learned how discipline, teamwork, and a little persistence is a sure way to find the best in the field, whether on the diamond or in the classroom. Through food drives via Student Council and participating in DART’s Santa’s Program volunteering for DART police officers, I’ve witnessed how giving back to the less fortunate not only helps a household, but also encourages them and builds them up. The positive impact it brings out of people’s lives pushed me even further to wanting to do good with my future career as well. This upcoming fall semester, I will be matriculating at Clark Atlanta University majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Finance and specialization in CyberSecurity. So far, I’ve kept a 5.18 GPA while also chasing scholarships and leadership development and a role to serve my community. With my degree I aspire to mentor students, contribute towards promoting technology, and help young men/women of a background like mine to seize the opportunities ahead of them. Having gone through much in my life I now realize that although the struggle you may endure does not define who you are, the resilience you build upon the process does. It’s time for me to spread the wealth from all I’ve learned through the hardships and have others chase their dreams.

STEM has always been the way to create something that helps people, build innovative things, and solve real life problems. STEM fields are responsible for the medical technology and innovative systems, not to mention the cybersecurity that protects society. Pursuing STEM, specifically Computer Science (focusing on Cybersecurity and a minor in Finance), I want to be able to open up opportunities for myself and the community by not just building innovative things, but also creating pathways for people in their communities. The spark that started my interest in tech was my childhood. I’ve always wondered what’s behind the technology that we use daily. From the communications technology to the financial system to the technologies that power businesses, the computer revolution has influenced my understanding of the human experience, and how we function. Technology plays a critical role in nearly every aspect of human experience communicating online, making and accessing funds, accessing healthcare, even operating a business it plays a role. Moreover, as we increasingly rely on this technological system, we also introduce significant security concerns which led to my interested in Cybersecurity. I wanted to develop a career in cybersecurity where I will contribute in building secure computer systems and protect both individuals and businesses from cyber threats. The concept of "creating impact" or "transforming lives" of the people around me really touched my heart. Being the first-generation of my family, I believe it's only through perseverance and education that we can make our life worth living, just like what my family had always been taught me: you got to be resilient. Since STEM careers provide us with an opportunity to lead the charge and create new discoveries that are able to change the world, I aspire to gain a better understanding and further education in a STEM field and use the education that I receive to contribute to society by building tools and providing solutions to bridge the technology gap and inspire young minds. During high school, I always looked for opportunities to challenge myself both in my academic performance (5.18 GPA), on the baseball field (3-time All-District First Team player), and in my community through food drives, volunteer work and the DART Santa program. Through my high school experiences I have come to understand the meaning of hard work and discipline. A STEM education would equip me with the skills and the means to build a future that could make a lasting and meaningful contribution to society and empower those who come after me. My ambition is to not only have a lucrative career as a cybersecurity professional but to also mentor students from underprivileged communities and help them discover the wonders of STEM.

One of the hardest things I've had to do in my career was come back‌ from a torn labrum․ Baseball has been a huge part of my life for‌ many years․ I take pride‌ in the fact that I work hard and that I can be counted on by my teammates and coaches․ The moment I got hurt‚ I felt like‌ everything I worked for was on the line․ I couldn't‌ do what I expected of myself․ Instead of being on the field‌ helping my team‚ I was watching from the sidelines․ I was supposed to be there and‌ I wasn't․ I thought‌ it was a step back for me․ I had spent a lot of time working out‚ improving my game‚ and‌ preparing to play at the next level․ It all‌ suddenly went away․ The rehab process was a long‚‌ physical and mental journey for me․ There‌ were days when I felt like I was never going to get there․ I‌ was wondering if I was ever going to get back to where I was․ I decided to move forward and focus on the things I could control․ I went through physical rehabilitation‚ followed the doctor's orders‚ and worked every day to regain my strength and my confidence․ While I was unable to contribute on the field‚ I remained involved with the team and I was a great teammate․ I was a great student too‚ as I maintained a 5․18 grade point average while I stayed in recovery․ I learned the importance of waiting‚ hanging in there and not giving up when things don't come together as easily as we want․ Failure is an integral part of it․ I came back to school a better baseball player‚ more focused and mentally stronger than ever‚ because of faith and the process․ I went on to win First Team All-District‚ and to continue my goal of playing baseball at Clark Atlanta University․ My "never give up" attitude is one of the many reasons I am studying for my degree in Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity․ There's always a problem in technology․ You won't always find the answer immediately‚ but if you keep working to find it‚ you will find it‚ however many times you fail in the process․ When I was recovering from my injury‚ I learned how important persistence is․ Whether I am patrolling an outfield‚ standing in a classroom‚ or‚ one day‚ sitting in the office of a cybersecurity firm‚ every failure is not a reason to quit‚ but every failure is a chance to get up and try again․ That lesson will be with me for life․

I was volunteering one day for DART's (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) Santa Claus Christmas and had an epiphany․ DART police officers and volunteers go around the Dallas area and distribute Christmas gifts to a collection of families in need during the holidays․ I always knew there were families in need‚ but this really gave me a different outlook on life‚ gratitude‚ leadership and service to others․ During this time we got to spend several hours going neighborhood to neighborhood‚ home to home‚ meeting families in crisis․ I remember children overwhelmed and exuberant with joy to receive gifts that many people would consider commonplace‚ even insignificant․ For some of these families‚ this was the only time they would have a happy moment in the holidays․ To see the smiles on their faces made me realize how powerful it is when a community comes together․ I'll never forget one family that we visited‚ and they weren't so much excited about the gifts as they were that people took the time to show they cared․ That changed my perspective on service․ I've realized that it's not about money or fame․ Making a difference is about showing up‚ showing love‚ giving time to others‚ being there to give hope and encouragement where it's needed․ These hours volunteering with the DART and the DART police officers have taught me lessons that I take with me every day․ I have learned the importance of leading by serving and I am always looking for opportunities to give back to my community․ Watching those police officers and volunteers use their free time to help those families showed me at an early age what it really meant to give back freely and be someone who uses what I've been given to help others․ Participating in this event has had a strong impact on my life and my future as it encourages me to pursue more leadership positions in academics‚ sports‚ and the community․ As I pursue my education in cybersecurity at Clark Atlanta University and play on their baseball team‚ I hope to take my experiences from this project with me․ I want to volunteer‚ work with and mentor younger students and pass my knowledge to others in my field of study․ The families I worked with during my volunteer hours changed my life because they taught me to be more compassionate‚ grateful‚ and helpful․ They helped me understand that being truly successful is not just about what you do for yourself‚ but how you help others and what you do for them․

2) The person I've looked up to the most has been my dad․ A lot of people look up to celebrities or athletes or people throughout history‚ and I've looked up to my dad․ He has shown me through his actions what hard work‚ perseverance‚ and selflessness truly look like‚ and the lessons he taught me over the years shaped not only the person I am today‚ but the person I am becoming in preparation for college and a career․ One of my favorite things about my dad is his work ethic․ He never turns down a challenge‚ and he approaches everything he does with a positive attitude․ When I was a child‚ he was making sacrifices and doing things for our family without expecting credit or recognition․ He was always saying that it is not about being good‚ but working hard to achieve an objective․ Because of his example‚ I learned to stay disciplined in my studies and athletics․ My dad has inspired me by the way he treats other people‚ because he believes in helping other people whenever possible and respects all people․ Watching him interact with his friends‚ family‚ and members of our community has shaped my values around kindness and integrity․ This inspired me to get involved in volunteer work; I have volunteered with the Student Council‚ with food drives‚ and with DART Santa to deliver gifts to families during the holidays․ He also impacted my studies and my athleticism․ While a student-athlete‚ I managed to maintain a high GPA and received First Team All-District for three consecutive years for my achievements in baseball․ When I would struggle like that‚ my dad would always tell me to keep moving‚ keep my chin up‚ focus on what I could control․ As I go off to college to study Computer Science with a concentration in Cybersecurity‚ the lessons my father taught me follow me every day․ He taught me to pursue excellence‚ serve my community‚ and never give up when I am faced with adversity․ So many people have had an impact on my life‚ but the difference is my dad's example has not just influenced what I want to achieve‚ but who I want to be․

My dad was a smoker‚ so once he died of lung and heart problems it was one of the hardest things I've ever been through․ Losing a parent at that age changes the way you look at life‚ responsibility‚ and the future․ I think my father's death changed me emotionally‚ mentally‚ personally‚ but most importantly‚ it kept me motivated to work harder and build my future and that of my family․ I am still sad and hurt because of his death but I learnt how valuable life‚ health and time with your family and loved ones really are․ When you lose your dad‚ you learn to deal with things like sorrow‚ anger‚ confusion and pressure․ Sometimes you have a hard time focusing‚ losing someone like that is not forgettable․ But out of all that‚ I learned a lot about myself․ You realize that you're tougher than you think you are․ You learn that there's two things life can do to you: break you or make you stronger․ Baseball became one of the main ways I filtered my emotions․ It provided me with discipline‚ structure and an outlet to focus my energy in a positive direction․ The game taught me how to persevere‚ be accountable and be mentally tough‚ lessons that have carried over to other times in my life․ I think taking a little bit of time for quiet contemplation is really helpful in clearing your mind and regulating your emotions․ I don't meditate every single day‚ but I do pray‚ I think about my goals‚ and I reflect on what has happened to me and what I want the future to be․ The ability to pause and reflect has kept me on track and driven․ The one thing that I learned from this situation is that I want to make my life mean something․ That's why I'm going to attend Clark Atlanta University and study cyber security while playing baseball․ Education means the opportunity and stability to create a positive impact on myself‚ my community‚ and future generations․ I want to pursue a career in technology‚ but also help younger mentees‚ especially those in the African American community‚ to take advantage of the opportunities STEM has to offer․ The biggest influences in my life are definitely my family‚ my coaches‚ and the people that stood behind me when times were tough․ The things my family sacrificed and the things they told me motivate me to keep working․ My coaches taught me discipline‚ how to be a leader and how to keep my composure in different situations․ I respect people who have overcome obstacles and give back․ After my father's death‚ I realized the importance of inner strength‚ the purpose of living‚ and how to make the most of it․

My family owned a Williams Chicken restaurant on Danieldale Road in Duncanville‚ Texas… Before it shutdown in 2020 due to covid. Most people think about a restaurant as a place to buy food․ My parents' restaurant was like my school․ A lot of the things I learned being around the restaurant taught me the value of hard work‚ the importance of customer service‚ teamwork and giving back to the community․ In so many ways I learned from that restaurant and the values it represents․ It's helped shape who I am and how I view leadership and business․ One of the biggest lessons I learned was work ethic․ If you're running a restaurant‚ you're working many more hours‚ paying attention to details‚ serving customers day in and day out․ What I learned seeing my family work to make every customer happy was that nothing happens overnight‚ and success is not a product of good luck‚ but consistency‚ discipline‚ and a willingness to put in the work when you are faced with circumstances that make it difficult for you to do it․ It was my time in the restaurant that taught me how important it is to serve your community․ We had a lot of regulars․ It took me a long time to realize that the place was not only a restaurant‚ but a meeting place for people․ I learned that from observing my family develop relationships with the customers․ They taught me that you always need to treat people with respect․ This has stayed with me in my life‚ whether it be in community service projects‚ food drives‚ or volunteer service programs․ One of the main lessons was how to work with different types of people․ In a restaurant‚ you have to work as a team․ In order for everything to run smoothly‚ I had to communicate with my co-workers and help each other determine solutions to our problems which taught me communication and leadership skills that I still use today as a student‚ athlete‚ and future college student․ If I could change one thing about the restaurant industry‚ it would be to make employee career tracks a priority․ Restaurant employees work some of the hardest jobs in the world‚ but often have limited access to training programs for a better job․ I want restaurants to invest more in technology to improve efficiency while also making sure they do not lose their local charm․ Growing up around the Williams Chicken franchise that my family owned and operated taught me about professionalism‚ work ethic‚ service to others‚ leadership and being a contributing member of the community․ These lessons will stay with me throughout my education and into my career․

I think everyone has something a little unusual about them that makes them stand out․ For me‚ it has to do with the way I hold a baseball bat․ Most players are taught to grip the bat a certain way‚ but over time I found that holding the bat with my hands slightly backward felt more natural and actually helped me make better contact with the ball․ At first‚ coaches and teammates would notice it and ask why I held the bat that way because it looked different from what they were used to seeing․ It was something that looked really awkward‚ but it actually helped me․ I tried a few different grips‚ and I found one that enabled me to square up pitches more in practice and games․ As a result of that‚ my grip is what it is today‚ and I still do that now as part of my practice․ I still grip the bat backwards in practice because I feel that it's a part of my style․ I learned from that‚ I learned that you can't always be afraid of being different‚ just because something is different that does not mean that it is wrong․ In sport‚ everybody tries to be the same․ Every athlete is different and learns differently‚ and often the best results come from finding what works for you‚ rather than trying to fit into the standard mold․ As an athlete and a baseball player‚ I think that one of the most important things to do is accept yourself․ It may seem strange to other people‚ but that upside-down grip has made me a better hitter‚ and helped me succeed in what I do․ I earned First Team All-District honors three times and learned that confidence comes from trusting your preparation and your abilities‚ even when your approach looks different from everyone else's․ Looking back‚ I'm glad I was different․ For me‚ it's something that I believe has made me the person I am․ I believe that whether it be sports‚ academics or life in general‚ being different is the way to get better․ That disheveled‚ awkward baseball grip didn't look right‚ but it also reminds me that sometimes you have to be a little different to be successful․Through this, I learned that you should be comfortable in being yourself, since the strange is sometimes the strongest part of you. It was also valuable to me in encouraging myself to be open-minded in the face of difficulty. In most cases the best and most original innovation takes place when you're doing things differently, and personal improvement is achieved through having faith in yourself to experiment and to learn from situations that others may find perplexing.

“Maybe there is a beast․․․ maybe it is only us․” (Golding) William Golding's philosophy can be best expressed in this one line from his novel Lord of the Flies: "Maybe there is a beast․․․ maybe it's only us"․ Golding indeed believes that the most dangerous thing on earth is not a beast outside‚ but the beast in every man․ Golding acknowledges evil as not coming from without the human race‚ but as a natural instinct towards violence‚ bloodshed and fear․ The deeper message of the book is that civilization does not make these negative forces disappear‚ but only suppresses them․ The importance of the quotation is that it weakens the boys' previous belief․ Earlier in the novel‚ the younger boys on the island claim that a mystery beast lives there․ Through fear‚ Golding reveals how mankind is always looking for the source of their suffering and violence to be external to themselves‚ but that‚ in reality‚ the source of the beast lies within the boys and that the beast is not real‚ but instead a metaphor for mankind's destructive instinct․ As he is the only one who understands the true nature of the beast‚ Simon alone perceives the cause of the island's chaos․ Golding wrote the book after World War II․ The novel is about more than the boys and was meant to illustrate the violent nature of humans as Golding saw the humanity fighting wars․ Since the twentieth century has seen educated and civilized people commit horrendous acts‚ Golding questions the extent to which education and social structures can change the essential nature of humanity․ The descent of the boys into savagery while on the island suggests that‚ despite their civilized upbringings‚ they are not intrinsically good and that the quality of civilization is fragile and largely dependent on external regulation rather than on internal spirituality․ It also raises issues of personal responsibility․ If there is a beast inside all of us‚ there is no excuse for our actions in any circumstance․ Golding paints a picture of moral behavior as a continuous process requiring constant self-awareness and self-control․ Because the boys never accept the possibility that they themselves are the source of evil‚ fear and violence spread unregulated․ Simon‚ in contrast‚ believes that understanding the 'beast' is the only road to moral progress․ Closely related to the theme of civilization and savagery is Golding's assertion that the greatest evils to humanity are not external‚ arising from the laws and customs of society‚ but internal‚ originating in the human heart․ It also suggests that the bestial side of human nature‚ if suppressed‚ will take over and destroy the human being‚ and the implication of the beast's symbol is that the barrier between civilization and savagery‚ between humans and beasts‚ and between good and evil is easily crossed․ The passage thus retains its value in reminding us that the struggle between good and evil is not fought against an outside monster but within each and every human being․Also‚ Golding's message is still relevant today‚ as humans wage war on each other using fear‚ division‚ and power․ In politics‚ conflict‚ and international affairs‚ humans today still seek others out as enemies‚ instead of recognizing and apologizing for their own flaws and biases․ Golding implies that laws and order in a civilized society can only function if the underlying morality is there to support them․ He would say the most important part of civilization is not abiding by laws and rules when there is law and order‚ but choosing to be nice and temperate‚ and accept responsibility for your own actions when nobody else is there to do it․ Thus‚ having seen the power of the "beast" within ourselves‚ we may be better prepared to avoid the kinds of conflict and destruction Golding feared everywhere․

I've always been drawn to the field of STEM, because I am passionate about technology, finding solutions to complex problems and utilizing technology to make people's lives better. Since I was a young child I was constantly intrigued by technology, and I developed the interest for how I could use technology to assist in solving problems that exist in the real world. That childhood interest evolved into a career choice of cybersecurity, after building a functional robot, and seeing the impact that innovation, teamwork and technical expertise has when one makes an idea real. I wanted a career where I can use technology to make a difference in other people's lives. My interest in cybersecurity stems from the reliance that society and the world as we know it has developed on technology. All schools, businesses, hospitals and families use technology and these, among many other organizations and groups, are prone to cyber threats. I aspire to become a security expert so that I may not only protect individuals and organizations, but to equip myself with the knowledge to provide effective solutions and security from cyberattacks. I believe, with constant innovation comes the need for skilled professionals that are capable of protecting information, people and the organizations that are dependent on it, and I believe this to be the career I would like to pursue. When I enroll at Clark Atlanta University I will pursue a degree in cybersecurity, and I intend to further pursue my baseball career. It is through this course of study that I believe I will be exposed to the necessary technical knowledge and certifications required in order for me to secure my career in STEM; however, completing a degree program is merely the first step in my overall goal. I have already started giving back through volunteer activities, such as, helping out with the DART Santa Claus Christmas program, by assisting in delivering gifts to families in need across the Dallas area. These opportunities were key to developing my values, that achievement should not only be recognized by success attained, but also by the service provided. In the future, I aspire to be at the front of designing programs that offer greater technological access and security awareness within underserved communities. A lot of young individuals in these areas have the ability, but are denied the exposure that would afford them careers within STEM fields, and I aim to help break down these barriers. My dad was a smoker‚ so once he died of lung and heart problems it was one of the hardest things I've ever been through․ Losing a parent at that age changes the way you look at life‚ responsibility‚ and the future․ I think my father's death changed me emotionally‚ mentally‚ personally‚ but most importantly‚ it kept me motivated to work harder and build my future and that of my family․ I am still sad and hurt because of his death but I learnt how valuable life‚ health and time with your family and loved ones really are․ When you lose your dad‚ you learn to deal with things like sorrow‚ anger‚ confusion and pressure․ Sometimes you have a hard time focusing‚ losing someone like that is not forgettable․ But out of all that‚ I learned a lot about myself․ You realize that you're tougher than you think you are․ You learn that there's two things life can do to you: break you or make you stronger․ Baseball became one of the main ways I filtered my emotions․ It provided me with discipline‚ structure and an outlet to focus my energy in a positive direction․ The game taught me how to persevere‚ be accountable and be mentally tough‚ lessons that have carried over to other times in my life․ I think taking a little bit of time for quiet contemplation is really helpful in clearing your mind and regulating your emotions․ I don't meditate every single day‚ but I do pray‚ I think about my goals‚ and I reflect on what has happened to me and what I want the future to be․ The ability to pause and reflect has kept me on track and driven․ The one thing that I learned from this situation is that I want to make my life mean something․ That's why I'm going to attend Clark Atlanta University and study cyber security while playing baseball․ Education means the opportunity and stability to create a positive impact on myself‚ my community‚ and future generations․ I want to pursue a career in technology‚ but also help younger mentees‚ especially those in the African American community‚ to take advantage of the opportunities STEM has to offer․ The biggest influences in my life are definitely my family‚ my coaches‚ and the people that stood behind me when times were tough․ The things my family sacrificed and the things they told me motivate me to keep working․ My coaches taught me discipline‚ how to be a leader and how to keep my composure in different situations․ I respect people who have overcome obstacles and give back․ After my father's death‚ I realized the importance of inner strength‚ the purpose of living‚ and how to make the most of it․

Technology is a tool that can be used to solve everyday problems․ If I were to invent a technology to help the people within my community in their everyday life‚ I would create an AI powered cybersecurity and community safety system to protect schools‚ small businesses‚ and families from cyberattacks‚ as well as educate children about technology and cybersecurity․ As technology continues to grow‚ I believe that there are many communities‚ particularly marginalized communities that lack the resources and knowledge to keep themselves safe online․ This is a space where I believe we can use technology to provide security‚ education‚ and accessibility․ My motivation for this idea is my interest in cybersecurity and humanitarian technologies․ I grew up around people whose opportunities have been limited by access to information and resources․ I also started to realize how many people are so easily tricked because they don't have the knowledge or tools to protect themselves from online scams‚ identity theft‚ hacking and cyber attacks․ Small businesses and schools are probably the most vulnerable․ I want to pursue a movement that offers low cost protection and teaches communities about technology safety․ An AI system could be developed to monitor questionable online activities‚ detect potential cybersecurity threats and notify the user before it becomes a major problem․ The system should also implement training for students and families to learn about cybersecurity‚ online safety and how to properly use technologies for a better internet experience․ I would want the technology to be extremely simple‚ affordable and cost effective so that less well off communities could also gain the benefits of protection and education․ When I saw how much we were able to help with the robot after we finished making it‚ I learned how technology can solve problems and how innovation‚ teamwork‚ and critical thinking can take an idea through to a final product․ That inspired me to pursue cybersecurity and computer science so I can build technology that improves society and people's lives․ I'm going to Clark Atlanta University to continue my education and play college baseball‚ then I plan to use my education to implement technology that I feel can help protect and lift up communities․ I also want to support younger students‚ particularly African American students‚ to consider careers in science‚ technology‚ engineering and mathematics․ Ultimately‚ I believe technology should do more than simply make life more convenient or easier; it should create opportunities‚ provide protection and empower people․ I want to be able to use technology and education as tools to make a lasting difference in the lives of people I interact with․

I was volunteering one day for DART's (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) Santa Claus Christmas and had an epiphany․ DART police officers and volunteers go around the Dallas area and distribute Christmas gifts to a collection of families in need during the holidays․ I always knew there were families in need‚ but this really gave me a different outlook on life‚ gratitude‚ leadership and service to others․ During this time we got to spend several hours going neighborhood to neighborhood‚ home to home‚ meeting families in crisis․ I remember children overwhelmed and exuberant with joy to receive gifts that many people would consider commonplace‚ even insignificant․ For some of these families‚ this was the only time they would have a happy moment in the holidays․ To see the smiles on their faces made me realize how powerful it is when a community comes together․ I'll never forget one family that we visited‚ and they weren't so much excited about the gifts as they were that people took the time to show they cared․ That changed my perspective on service․ I've realized that it's not about money or fame․ Making a difference is about showing up‚ showing love‚ giving time to others‚ being there to give hope and encouragement where it's needed․ These hours volunteering with the DART and the DART police officers have taught me lessons that I take with me every day․ I have learned the importance of leading by serving and I am always looking for opportunities to give back to my community․ Watching those police officers and volunteers use their free time to help those families showed me at an early age what it really meant to give back freely and be someone who uses what I've been given to help others․ Participating in this event has had a strong impact on my life and my future as it encourages me to pursue more leadership positions in academics‚ sports‚ and the community․ As I pursue my education in cybersecurity at Clark Atlanta University and play on their baseball team‚ I hope to take my experiences from this project with me․ I want to volunteer‚ work with and mentor younger students and pass my knowledge to others in my field of study․ The families I worked with during my volunteer hours changed my life because they taught me to be more compassionate‚ grateful‚ and helpful․ They helped me understand that being truly successful is not just about what you do for yourself‚ but how you help others and what you do for them․

One community service experience that had a big impact on my life was when I helped out the DART Santa Claus Christmas event by going around the Dallas area with DART police officers to deliver gifts to families in need at Christmas time․ I learned from this that even the smallest acts of giving can make a big difference in the lives of those in need․ As I was growing up I learned that many families face problems that are hidden from view‚ particularly at the holidays․ For every family celebrating with gifts and traditions‚ there are also families worrying about how they are going to feed their kids․ Knowing this had inspired me to become involved in the event so that I could help make a positive difference in the lives of others if only for a single day․ The delighted reaction on the children's faces when they received a gift reminded me of the importance of compassion and the power of community support․ We went around Dallas with DART police officers to give out presents‚ and just spending time with families who needed help․ One thing I always remember is that the families were always appreciative of whatever you gave them‚ no matter how small the gift was․ And I learned that serving meant not necessarily something expensive or grand‚ but simply showing people that they are seen‚ valued‚ and cared for․ One of the struggles I faced while doing this was coming to terms with the fact that many families deal with needs that many of us take for granted․ Seeing kids who are just blown away that they got a few gifts at Christmas was hard․ That challenge made me more appreciative of the blessing and support system I have in my own life․ It's how I learned the value of humility and that being a leader is not just about your own achievements‚ but lifting others whenever you can․ That experience taught me a lot about service‚ leadership and faith․ I learned that leadership is about the investment of your time‚ energy and talent for the benefit of those you serve․ Service is about being willing to step outside of yourself and help others without expecting the rewards for it․ It made me better; my faith is stronger because it reminded me of the importance of being kind‚ compassionate and giving to the community․ As I plan to continue my academic and athletic career at Clark Atlanta University‚ I hope to be able to carry these values with me and continue serving others whenever I can․ Whether it is through mentoring younger students or participating in community service events‚ I want to continue making a positive impact on those around me․ The DART Santa Claus Christmas event also showed me that I can make a difference in someone's life in a small way․

Whenever something goes south I am there to encourage them to pitch past it. Many of them do not have quality role models in their life to help guide them to success. This is where I shine at, I help teach them the game; while also teaching them skills for the real world. Technology has become one of the most important parts of modern society‚ and influences how people communicate‚ work and problem solve on a daily basis․ I am interested in the way technology works‚ how we can use it to protect people‚ and how it can be used to improve people's lives․ As time went on‚ I became especially interested in cybersecurity to protect my personal information‚ businesses‚ and organizations from cybersecurity attacks․ I found that I enjoyed learning about computers‚ solving problems‚ and using technology to make the people around me safer․ I will be attending Clark Atlanta University‚ I will be studying cybersecurity and will be continuing my career in baseball as I attend school․ Attending an HBCU means several things to me: excellence‚ cultural education‚ opportunity‚ and community․ Clark Atlanta University is where I will thrive as a student‚ an athlete‚ and a human being with the guidance of the faculty‚ administration‚ and fellow students supporting my journey to success․ I plan to have a successful career in cybersecurity‚ helping businesses‚ schools and other organizations prevent cyberattacks and other security threats to their networks and systems․ One experience that made me want to work in technology was helping build a functioning robot‚ which showed me how to work with others‚ be creative‚ communicate with others and think critically․ Working on the robot allowed me to see how technology can come to life through collaboration and invention․ The experience of being successful through hard work and dedication inspired me to continue to pursue technology/engineering related projects․ I could include this robot project as an example of my experience with robotic systems․ In addition to my academic career‚ I have participated in several extracurricular activities and taken leadership positions through baseball․ Being a student athlete has taught me discipline‚ responsibility‚ time management and perseverance․ Overall‚ baseball has helped me evolve into a leader on the field and in the classroom through motivating others‚ keeping myself focused and determined through adversity‚ and committing to a goal․ Playing collegiate athletics will allow me to be a role model to upand coming students‚ especially African-American students‚ to enter careers in technology and other STEM fields․ African Americans are underrepresented in many areas of the technology industry‚ and I would like to be a part of changing that․ I plan to advance African American representation in technology by mentoring younger students‚ speaking out for stronger STEM outreach in my community‚ and showing that success in technology is possible․ I want to be a role model to the younger generation․ I want African American students to see that you can play sports and pursue a technology career․ In tech‚ education‚ leadership‚ and community involvement can drive more diversity and inclusion․ I think my determination comes from my passion for cybersecurity‚ being a leader‚ and wanting to help my community․ I want to get a chance to go to Clark Atlanta University and play a collegiate sport at the same time while impacting my community and working in cybersecurity to open the door for people with a love for technology like myself․
