Bio

Greetings! My name is Jason Futrell. My hobbies are playing sports, working out, reading, and gaming. I’ve played in intramural sports as an escape from the pressure of outside influences. I am a first generation student. I come from a very low income family being homeless in two occasions, and raised by a single mother. During these times I was at my lowest barley able to shower and eat due to the harsh living conditions, but I would never once display my hard comings to the people around me. As I believed that in doing so I would bring trouble to my mother, who worked hard every night to keep her kids alive. Although I grew depressed due to the living conditions me and my family endured. However I never once stopped believing that I could be someone to end the cycle of poverty in my family. I never stopped believing that the light of greatness could shine in the darkness of poverty and depression. I want to be great, I want to lead a life full of perseverance and hope to others. My dream is to be able to inspire future children in poverty to see that if I could be great then they could be great as well, to show the world that it doesn’t matter where you came from, you can always be who you dream to be. I am pursuing a career in law I want to use the law as a way to inform and give back to my community. I’m hopeful that my career path can lead me to become a leader in this country and bring forth change to our society. I want to be great and be remembered in history, I will be great and I will never stop trying until I’ve reached my goal. Thank You for being here!

Law students have a unique position in society and have the knowledge and skills to make a real difference in the world. Whether they are passionate about higher education, criminal justice reform, or environmental protection, these students have countless ways to use their legal education to create positive change. In this essay, I will talk about how I plan to use my legal education to positively impact the world, the specific causes and issues I am passionate about, and the actions I plan to take to make a difference in these areas. . As a law student, I am particularly interested in criminal justice reform. The current criminal justice system in many countries is plagued by racial and socioeconomic bias, mass incarceration, and a lack of rehabilitation programs for criminals. I believe it is the responsibility of lawyers and attorneys to reform and adjust the justice system as new implications and legal doctrines are implemented, and as a future lawyer I plan to work to create a fairer and more just system for all individuals. I am inspired by influential people like Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, who has dedicated his career to fighting for the rights of the marginalized and wrongfully convicted. One particular cause of criminal justice reform I am particularly passionate about , is the abolition of the death penalty. The death penalty is a deeply flawed and fundamentally unjust punishment that disproportionately affects marginalized communities. I am committed to removing it through both legal channels and public information campaigns. I plan to work with organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to challenge the constitutionality of the death penalty and support initiatives to replace it with more humane and effective forms of punishment. In addition to my work on criminal justice reform. . , I am also passionate about environmental protection. The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and we must take immediate action to mitigate its devastating effects. As a law student, I see myself playing a crucial role in advocating for sustainable development and environmental laws and policies that reduce carbon emissions. I am inspired by figures like Greta Thunberg, a young environmental activist who has mobilized millions of people around the world to demand urgent action on climate change. One particular environmental issue that I am deeply passionate about is environmental protection. biological diversity. Species on our planet are rapidly disappearing due to habitat destruction, pollution and climate change. I believe that protecting biodiversity is necessary not only for the well-being of the ecosystems, but also for the future of humanity. I intend to work with environmental organizations such as the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to support conservation efforts and advocate for stricter rules to protect endangered species. In conclusion, as a law student, I recognize the enormous potential I have for to make a positive impact on the world. I use my legal education to advocate for criminal justice reform and environmental protection, and hope to contribute to a more just, fair and sustainable society. I am inspired by the work of influential people in these fields and am committed to following in their footsteps to create a better world for future generations!
Charles Cheesman's Student Debt Reduction Scholarship
Hello and good day! My name is Jason Futrell, I am an Afro/Latino first-generation student and recently completed my Bachelor's degree program at Rutgers University State College of New Jersey. I am now very keen on pursuing my next goal in my academic journey by attending Law school in hopes of receiving my JD degree and making a difference for others who share my similar background. My background was never blessed financially and I must reach out as far as I can to accomplish this goal. Student loan debt has been a huge strain on my everyday life, and I find myself more and more held down due to the payments I currently have and the thought of my future payments due to how expensive law school is. I hope this essay can help alleviate some of this burden by winning this scholarship. I believe this scholarship would alleviate the financial burden that comes with pursuing higher education. Law Schools require extensive resources to attend not only financially, other necessities such as textbooks and tutoring for the Bar exam. With the help of this scholarship, I would be able to afford these essential tools without worrying about their cost. This financial support would allow me to fully immerse myself in my studies and take advantage of all available opportunities. This scholarship would enable me to participate in internships or co-op programs related to Law. These hands-on experiences are necessary for gaining practical knowledge and building a strong foundation for my future career. An example for when I helped others was when I was younger me and my friends were ice skating on a frozen pond, it was very popular to do at the time, and I noticed a young girl skating in the thin ice area. I went over to the girl and warned her of the danger and she quickly went back to the thicker ice. Moments later I would fall in and swim my way to safety. Later, she thanked me for saving her life and was told I was a hero for doing that. This is an example where I put aside my wants and needs to prioritize the well-being of others. Experiences like this taught me that true fulfillment lies not in selfish pursuits but in acts of kindness towards others. I strive to be selfless in my everyday interactions by actively listening to others without judgment, offering support whenever possible, and putting others' needs before mine. Obtaining my bachelors degree was not just about personal achievement; it was about uplifting others who come from similar backgrounds to believe that they too can reach these heights and more! I hope that with my Law degree in hand, I plan to become an advocate for underrepresented communities by providing mentorship, guidance, and educational opportunities. In conclusion, receiving this scholarship would not only provide financial assistance but also open doors for various opportunities in Law. It would allow me to focus on my studies without any worries about finances while providing invaluable experiences through internships or co-op programs. Moreover, it will serve as a powerful motivator throughout my academic journey by reminding me of the belief others have placed in me. With all these benefits combined, I am confident that this scholarship will play an instrumental role in helping me pursue my future career goals as an Attorney. Thank You.

My background was never blessed financially and I must reach out as far as I can to accomplish this goal, and I hope this essay can assist me in this goal of mine. Selflessness is a virtue that transcends one's desires and focuses on the needs of others. It is an act of putting oneself aside to help those in need, without expecting anything in return. I believe that embodying selflessness is crucial for fostering empathy and creating a harmonious society. However, selflessness is a quality that is often overlooked in today's self-centered society. Therefore, embodying selflessness is crucial for creating a compassionate and supportive community. I believe that I embody selflessness through my actions and the way I treat others. One example where I practiced selflessness was when my friend was going through a difficult breakup. His girlfriend had hurt him in the worst way possible, and Instead of focusing solely on my problems, I took the time to listen attentively and to be supportive of a friend in need. I believe I was selfless in this act because by being there for them emotionally, I helped alleviate their pain and provided comfort during their time of need. Another example where I practiced selflessness was when I was younger me and my friends were ice skating on a frozen pond, it was very popular to do at the time, and I noticed a young girl skating in the thin ice area. I went over to the girl and warned her of the danger and she quickly went back to the thicker ice. Moments later I would fall in and swim my way to safety. In addition to these examples, I strive to be selfless in my everyday interactions by actively listening to others without judgment, offering support whenever possible, and putting others' needs before mine. In conclusion, embodying selflessness requires us to step outside our comfort zones and extend a helping hand to those who need it most. Whether it be offering emotional support to friends or putting one's safety in front of your own, these acts remind us that we are all interconnected beings capable of making a positive impact on each other's lives. Embodying selflessness not only benefits those around us but also brings personal fulfillment. By helping others in need, we create a positive ripple effect that can inspire others to do the same. Let us all strive to embody selflessness and make our world a better place one act of kindness at a time.

However, my background was never blessed financially and I must reach out as far as I can to accomplish this goal. I hope this essay can assist me in this goal of mine, and receiving a scholarship is not only a financial relief but also an opportunity to pursue my future career goals with determination and focus. Lawyers play a crucial role in society, advocating for justice and upholding the rule of law. Their work impacts individuals, communities, and even nations. So, why do I want to practice law? The answer lies in my passion for making a positive difference in people's lives. Firstly, practicing law allows me to be an advocate for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Today people of the Afro/Latino community are taken advantage of in one way or another whether physically, emotionally, or economically and I want to give them the ability to have a way out of the crisis they may be facing. Many individuals face injustices every day but lack the knowledge or resources to fight back. As a lawyer, I can use my skills and expertise to represent their interests and ensure they receive fair treatment under the law. Secondly, the legal profession offers endless opportunities for intellectual growth and personal development. The field is constantly evolving, presenting new challenges that require critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This constant learning process excites me as it allows me to continually expand my knowledge base and become a better advocate for my other passions like public speaking which can possibly create social change. I believe practicing law provides an avenue for social change. By working within the legal system, I can contribute to shaping policies that promote equality, protect human rights, and address pressing societal issues such as climate change or discrimination. Being able to influence positive change on a larger scale is both empowering and fulfilling as it means that I made a difference in the lives of others. Lastly, being a lawyer grants me the privilege of helping others navigate complex legal matters during their most vulnerable times. Whether it's assisting someone through a divorce or fighting for justice in criminal cases, being there for clients when they need support is incredibly rewarding. I believe this will help not only myself as a person, but my community as well by having a Lawyer who works to support and assist them in any way I can. In conclusion, my desire to practice law stems from my passion for justice, intellectual and social growth opportunities, my ability to effect social change positively, and my desire to help others during challenging times. By pursuing this career path with dedication and integrity, I believe I can make a lasting impact on society while upholding the principles of fairness and equality that are at the core of our legal system.

The mental health challenges faced by the Black community have long been overlooked and stigmatized, perpetuating a cycle of suffering and inequality. To envision a utopian future where optimal mental health is achieved, we must address the systemic barriers that hinder progress. This essay explores my vision for optimal mental health in the Black community and highlights how mental health care and advocacy can contribute to achieving social justice for communities of color by addressing the unique challenges faced by communities of color, we can pave the way for social justice and equality. In my utopian vision, every member of the Black community has access to affordable, high-quality mental health care services. This includes increasing the number of mental health professionals from diverse backgrounds who are trained in culturally competent care, and increasing funding for mental health services in underserved areas, expanding insurance coverage, and reducing stigma associated with seeking help. By understanding the unique experiences and historical traumas faced by people of color, these professionals can provide effective support tailored to individual needs. It acknowledges that different layers of oppression compound one another and affect mental health outcomes. Advocacy plays a vital role in achieving social justice for communities of color by addressing systemic issues that contribute to poor mental health outcomes. This involves lobbying for policies that dismantle racial disparities in healthcare access, employment opportunities, education systems, criminal justice reform, and socioeconomic inequalities. Mental health care providers must be equipped to address these complexities, ensuring that no individual is left behind. As an aspiring attorney, my career goals are not only driven by personal ambition but also by a deep desire to make a positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community. After completing my undergraduate degree, I intend to pursue a law degree with a focus on LGBTQ+ rights and advocacy. The LGBTQ+ community has made significant strides toward equality in recent years, but there is still much work to be done. Discrimination and prejudice continue to persist in various aspects of society, from employment and housing to healthcare and education. Many individuals within this community face discrimination or unfair treatment due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. By providing legal counsel and representation, I can help ensure that their rights are protected and that they receive fair treatment under the law. Additionally, as an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, I will actively engage in policy reform efforts. Through lobbying for inclusive legislation and working with organizations dedicated to advancing equality, I can help shape laws that protect the rights of all individuals regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. After completing my law degree, I plan on making a significant impact on the LGBTQ+ community by actively participating in advocacy work. This includes volunteering at local LGBTQ+ organizations, conducting workshops on gender diversity awareness, and using social media platforms to raise awareness about the challenges faced by transgender individuals. Furthermore, education plays a crucial role in fostering acceptance and understanding within society. As an attorney focused on LGBTQ+ issues, I will have opportunities to educate others about the challenges faced by this community. By conducting workshops, giving presentations at schools or universities, and participating in public forums, I can raise awareness about these issues and promote inclusivity. Later, she thanked me for saving her life and was told I was a hero for doing that. In both these examples, I put aside my wants and needs to prioritize the well-being of others. These experiences taught me that true fulfillment lies not in selfish pursuits but in acts of kindness towards others.

The universe has always been a fascinating endeavor for humanity. It is crucial that we continue to work towards a better understanding of the nature of our universe, as it holds immense potential for scientific advancements and philosophical enlightenment. By unraveling the mysteries of the universe, we can gain insights into our own existence and place in the grand scheme of things. To comprehend its complexities, we must employ concepts such as curiosity, collaboration, technological advancements, and critical thinking. The first concept I hope to employ is curiosity. Curiosity is what drives us to question, explore, and seek answers. It is through curiosity that great discoveries are made and new frontiers are explored. By fostering a sense of wonder and encouraging questioning minds, we can push the boundaries of knowledge further. Curiosity fuels scientific research. Scientists are driven by their innate curiosity to unravel the mysteries of the universe. Without this thirst for knowledge, we would not have made groundbreaking discoveries such as electricity or antibiotics. Curiosity pushes scientists to ask questions, challenge existing theories, and delve deeper into uncharted territories. This is because curiosity drives technological advancements. The world we live in today is a testament to human ingenuity fueled by curiosity. From the invention of the wheel to space exploration, every technological leap forward has been driven by individuals who dared to question the status quo and explore new possibilities. Another important idea is collaboration. Collaboration is a fundamental aspect of human society, and its importance cannot be overstated. In an increasingly interconnected world, collaboration plays a crucial role in addressing the complex challenges we face. Whether it is tackling global issues such as climate change, poverty, or conflict resolution, collaboration allows us to pool resources, knowledge, and expertise to find innovative solutions. Collaboration fosters diversity and inclusivity. By bringing together individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and disciplines, collaboration enables the exchange of ideas and perspectives. This diversity of thought leads to more creative problem-solving and better decision-making processes. Collaborative efforts also promote mutual understanding and empathy among people with diverse experiences. When individuals work together towards a common goal, they can share the workload and avoid duplication of efforts. Collaboration also allows for specialization where each member can contribute their unique skills or expertise for maximum productivity, which encourages learning and personal growth. Through working with others who possess different knowledge or skill sets, individuals have the opportunity to expand their understanding and develop new competencies. Collaboration builds trust among individuals and communities. By working together towards shared objectives, collaborative efforts foster relationships based on mutual respect and cooperation. Furthermore, technological advancements play a crucial role in understanding our universe. The development of powerful telescopes, particle accelerators, and space probes has revolutionized our ability to observe distant galaxies, study subatomic particles, and explore other celestial bodies. One significant technological advancement is the Hubble Space Telescope. Launched in 1990, it has provided us with breathtaking images and invaluable data about distant galaxies, stars, and planets. The Hubble has revolutionized our understanding of the universe by capturing images that were previously unimaginable. It has allowed scientists to study phenomena such as black holes, dark matter, and cosmic expansion. Another breakthrough technology is the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This particle accelerator has enabled physicists to recreate conditions similar to those just after the Big Bang. By colliding particles at incredibly high speeds, scientists can observe subatomic particles and study their behavior. The LHC has led to groundbreaking discoveries like the Higgs boson particle, which helps explain how other particles acquire mass. It is technological advancements like these that have played a pivotal role in expanding our knowledge about the universe. Lastly, critical thinking plays a crucial role in understanding our universe as it allows us to question, analyze, and evaluate the information presented to us. It enables us to go beyond surface-level knowledge and delve deeper into the complexities of our world. By employing critical thinking skills, we can develop a more comprehensive understanding of the universe and make informed decisions based on evidence and logical reasoning. Critical thinking aids in understanding our universe by encouraging skepticism. Instead of accepting information at face value, critical thinkers are inclined to question its validity and seek supporting evidence. This approach is particularly important when it comes to scientific discoveries and theories. Critical thinkers understand that science is an ongoing process that is subject to revision based on new evidence from scientific hypotheses which would not be possible without critical thinking. Critical thinking allows us to analyze different perspectives and consider alternative explanations for the vast amount of things that happen in our universe without us being able to see them! By critically evaluating multiple viewpoints, we can develop a greater understanding of things like the origins of the universe. In conclusion, in the vast expanse of the universe, countless mysteries are waiting to be unraveled, and employing curiosity, collaboration, technological advancements, and critical thinking are crucial for comprehending the mysteries of the universe. Which not only enhances our understanding but also leads to scientific progress with wide-ranging benefits for humanity. Thank You!

"This generation has a rendezvous with destiny," said President Franklin Roosevelt. This passage in Ode's text resonates deeply with me as a member of the Gen Z generation. It serves as a reminder that we have an important role to play in shaping the future and making a positive impact on society. As Gen Z individuals, we are fortunate to live in an era of immense technological advancements and global connectivity. We have access to information at our fingertips and possess the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. This places us in a unique position to address pressing issues such as climate change, social inequality, and political unrest however older generations are not willing to see the hardships we also have to endure in the changing society. Today, we find ourselves in a similar situation as those during The Great Depression, where Millennials and Gen Z are faced with immense challenges that will shape our future. However, unlike any other generation before us, we have grown up in an era of rapid technological advancements and globalization. We have witnessed economic crises, political unrest, and environmental degradation. Yet, despite these obstacles, we possess an unparalleled resilience and determination to create positive change. Millennials-Gen Z are characterized by their passion for social justice, equality, and sustainability. We are not afraid to challenge the status quo and fight for what we believe in. Our voices have been amplified through social media platforms, allowing us to mobilize movements like never before. Moreover, our generation is highly educated and technologically savvy. We have access to information at our fingertips and possess the skills necessary to navigate this complex world. With our innovative thinking and adaptability, we can revolutionize industries and find solutions to pressing global issues. With all these advantages my generation can reach the highest of highs in the human species throughout human history. However, society must recognize our potential rather than dismiss us as entitled or lazy. We need support from older generations who can guide us towards fulfilling our destiny. By investing in education, and mentorship programs, and creating opportunities for collaboration between generations, we can harness the full potential of Millennials-Gen Z. In conclusion, just as President Roosevelt envisioned a bright future for his generation during times of adversity, today's Millennials-Gen Z also have a "rendezvous with destiny." Let us embrace this challenge head-on by leveraging our unique qualities - passion for change-making initiatives combined with technological prowess - to create a better world for all. Together with the guidance and support of older generations, we can truly become the next "Greatest Generation."

My life has never been easy. I’ve loved, I’ve laughed, I’ve fought, and I’ve lost. I’ve never complained, because that’s what everyone deals with. However there was this one moment in my life that I’d say would shape my very nature to the core. This one moment was when my grandma passed away in 2008. I was only 7 years old when my grandmother left this earth, and because I am writing this essay about her, you’d probably think that to me she was this amazing women and always cared for me that I loved so much. Yet you’d be wrong, when I was a child I was arrogant, loud, and disrespectful to people at the time, this included my grandma. One weekend, I was watching tv when my grandma gave me some raisins for a snack. One of those raisins fell to the floor and with no cautionary actions I proceeded to pick the raisin off the ground and eat it. The raisin cause me immense pain on my tooth and I screamed in pain and blamed my grandma for giving me the raisins in the first place. I yelled at her and told her I hated her for it, and had to get dental attention for my tooth. I would need a silver case to protect my back tooth. That was the last time I saw my grandma, and it is my only memory of her. She would be hospitalized shortly after for breast cancer and would pass away at the hospital in January of 2008. When I was told of her passing, I didn’t cry I felt in-different to the news. It wasn’t until years later when I would remember what I had said and done to her before she left this world. The shocking realization I had when I realized my anger had gone too far and I had hurt someone who I cared about broke me. To this day I believe that I was the one that caused her to pass. Since then I’ve done everything in my power to always do what’s right, to be nice and kind to all people I meet because you truly never know what someone is going through behind closed doors, and you never know when it’ll be the last time you see them again. I’ve helped so many people with my words and actions but I still believe that I’m not a good person. There are nights when I’m alone I look to the stars and cry, I beg for forgiveness to my grandma and hope that she can see the man I had grown up to be. I will never stop fighting for all that’s good and right, because of that valuable lesson I had learned. Rest easy grandma, I’m sorry and I love you, and I hope I’m making you proud. Jason Futrell
