Hello, my name is Jasmine Russell.
I’ve always had a passion for the medical field since I was 11 years old, and since then, I’ve been exploring ways to expand my way up the ladder and get the BSN and RN letters behind my name.
I am a young mother who dreams of becoming a traveling nurse and exploring the world with my daughter! Without her, I wouldn’t have kept pushing to get to where I am today.
I’ve been a caregiver (volunteering) for 11 years; in 2020, I graduated as a Patient Care Technician; and now I am furthering my education by becoming an RN. While I will be in a lot of debt from this schooling, I know it will pay off in the end, knowing I’ve made everyone around me proud, knowing I didn’t give up on them and kept pushing to where I want to be physically and financially.

In 2008, my grandmother passed away from Alzheimer dementia at the age of 54. After her passing, my mother's mental health went downhill from there. I was 11 at the time and I had two other siblings who needed their mother, but knowing what my mom was going through with her loss, I decided to step up and become the "second mom". Till this day, my mother still mourns the passing of her mother, and now that I have a new sibling, and even a child of my own (they're both 3) I have to take in the responsibility to make sure that my mother and siblings are taken care of no matter what. My father is doing a great job on his part, however he is slowly burning himself out trying to take care of us girls and now he has a granddaughter.
In 2019 after having my daughter, I was abandoned my her father and that also took a mental toll on me. However, every day when I wake up I know who I'm really doing this for and I know she is looking up to me as well. I had dropped out of college twice in the same year because I was ready to give up due to having depression and eventually getting postpartum blues. After going to counseling for a year in a half, in 2020 I slowly made my way back into school and graduated as a Patient Care Technician in 2021. Now I am enrolling into a BSN program next month in becoming a Registered Nurse Class of 2025!
My main goal after I graduate is becoming a traveling nurse and getting the chance to explore the world with my daughter. I know at the end of each day, I can be reassured that my immediate family is well taken care of as well as my child in case anything goes south. I could've gave up on school completely and even life itself. However knowing that my mother will be devastated as well as my daughter, made me rethink the path I was going on in life and made me focus of the things I need to take care of instead of worrying about what happened in the past. I hope in the end my family, daughter, and grandmother will be proud of me for not giving up and continued chasing my dreams.
