The most challenging part of balancing life as both a student and a single parent is managing the responsibility of pursuing my education while ensuring that my son feels supported, loved, and cared for. Both roles require my full attention and dedication. As a nursing student, I must spend many hours studying, preparing for exams, and completing assignments in order to succeed in a demanding academic program. At the same time, as a mother, my priority is making sure my son feels secure and knows that he can always depend on me.
Balancing these responsibilities often requires careful planning and sacrifice. There are many nights when I stay up studying long after my son has gone to bed so that I can keep up with my coursework. Nursing school requires focus, discipline, and the ability to absorb a large amount of information in a short amount of time. However, parenting does not pause during busy academic weeks. I still have to manage everyday responsibilities such as helping with school, maintaining our household, and making sure my son feels emotionally supported.
One of the most difficult challenges is managing the financial pressure that comes with returning to school as a single parent. Pursuing higher education means balancing tuition, books, and other academic expenses while also maintaining a stable home environment. There are moments when the stress of balancing work, school, and parenting feels overwhelming. However, these challenges also remind me why I started this journey in the first place.
My son is my greatest source of motivation. I want him to grow up seeing what perseverance looks like in real life. I want him to understand that obstacles do not have to stop us from achieving our goals. Instead, they can become opportunities to grow stronger and more determined. Every class I complete and every exam I pass brings me one step closer to building a future that will provide greater stability and opportunity for both of us.
Receiving this scholarship would make a meaningful difference in my ability to continue my education. Financial support would help reduce the stress associated with tuition and school expenses, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies and clinical training. With fewer financial barriers, I would be able to dedicate more time and energy to becoming the best nursing student and future healthcare professional I can be.
More importantly, this scholarship represents an investment not only in my future but also in my son’s future. Completing my nursing education will allow me to build a stable career where I can support my family while also serving others in my community. Nursing is a profession centered on compassion, service, and helping people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
My journey through nursing school is about more than earning a degree. It is about building a better future for my family and setting an example for my son. I want him to see that with determination, education, and hard work, it is possible to overcome challenges and create opportunities that once seemed out of reach.
Dick Loges Veteran Entrepreneur Scholarship
My father’s service in the Navy and his work ethic have played an important role in shaping the person I am today and the goals I have for my future. Growing up, I saw firsthand how military service instills discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of responsibility. Those values became a foundation in our household and have continued to influence the way I approach both my education and my career path.
Although my father’s time in the Navy came before many of my major life decisions, the lessons he carried from his service were always present. He often spoke about the importance of commitment, perseverance, and doing your job with integrity. Military service requires individuals to work under pressure, adapt to challenges, and remain focused on a mission larger than themselves. Watching my father carry those values into everyday life taught me that success often comes from discipline and the willingness to keep moving forward even when circumstances are difficult.
Those lessons became especially meaningful as I began navigating my own path through adulthood. Today, as a single mother pursuing a nursing degree, I rely heavily on the same determination and resilience that my father demonstrated. Returning to school while balancing parenting, work, and academic responsibilities requires discipline and focus. The example my father set through his military background reminds me that challenges can be overcome with persistence and a strong sense of purpose.
My father’s journey also helped me understand the importance of service to others. Military service is rooted in the idea of protecting and supporting the greater community, and that mindset has influenced the career path I have chosen. Nursing, much like military service, is a profession centered on service, responsibility, and care for others. Nurses often step into situations where individuals and families are experiencing vulnerability and uncertainty, and they provide not only medical care but also comfort and support.
His service has also influenced my belief in the importance of stability and opportunity. Growing up, I learned that hard work and dedication can create pathways to a better future. Those lessons have helped guide my educational journey and motivate me to continue pushing forward even when balancing multiple responsibilities feels overwhelming.
As I pursue my nursing education, I carry with me the values that my father’s military service helped instill: discipline, compassion, and the commitment to serve others. I want to build a career where I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families, just as my father dedicated part of his life to serving and protecting others.
Ultimately, my father’s service in the Navy has influenced my understanding of resilience, responsibility, and service. Those values continue to guide my educational journey and inspire me to pursue a career that allows me to positively impact my community.

I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because of my dedication to education, my resilience in overcoming challenges, and my commitment to using my career to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Returning to school as a nontraditional student while raising my son as a single mother has required determination, discipline, and faith in my long-term goals. Despite the challenges that come with balancing multiple responsibilities, I remain deeply committed to my academic journey and to becoming a nurse who serves others with compassion and purpose.
Academically, pursuing a nursing degree has challenged me to grow both intellectually and personally. Nursing requires strong critical thinking skills, a deep understanding of science, and the ability to apply knowledge in real-world situations that impact people’s health and well-being. Throughout my coursework, I have remained focused on developing strong study habits, time management skills, and the discipline required to succeed in a rigorous academic environment. Returning to school as an adult has made me even more motivated to learn because I understand how important this education is to the future I am building for myself and my family.
My academic journey is not only about earning a degree but about preparing myself to care for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I want to become a nurse who not only provides excellent medical care but also brings empathy, patience, and understanding to every patient interaction. My education is giving me the foundation I need to combine clinical knowledge with compassionate care.
Outside of the classroom, my experiences have also shaped my commitment to service and leadership. Before returning to school, I built a career in corporate recruiting where I helped individuals secure employment and rebuild stability in their lives. Through that work, I saw how access to opportunity can transform someone’s confidence and future. I often went beyond my professional responsibilities to help individuals who were struggling, particularly those experiencing housing instability, by helping them develop resumes, prepare for interviews, and connect with employment opportunities.
These experiences strengthened my belief that everyone deserves support and opportunity, especially during difficult times. Helping individuals regain stability in their lives became something I felt deeply passionate about, and it reinforced my desire to pursue a career centered on service.
Another meaningful part of my journey has been my involvement in pageantry. Pageantry has provided me with a platform to advocate for empowerment, community service, and personal growth. It has allowed me to develop leadership and public speaking skills while also encouraging others to pursue their goals regardless of obstacles. Through pageantry, I have learned how to use my voice to inspire others, promote positive change, and highlight issues that affect communities.
One of the most significant challenges I have faced during school has been balancing my education with the responsibilities of being a single mother. Raising my son while pursuing higher education requires constant organization, patience, and determination. There are many nights when I stay up late studying after my son has gone to bed, preparing for exams and completing assignments while also ensuring that I am present for him as a parent.
At times, managing school, parenting, and everyday responsibilities can feel overwhelming. However, these challenges have only strengthened my determination to succeed. I remind myself constantly that every step forward in my education is not only a step toward my own goals but also toward creating a better future for my son. I want him to grow up seeing that perseverance and dedication can overcome even the most difficult circumstances.
I overcame these challenges by developing strong time management skills, staying organized, and maintaining a clear sense of purpose. I have learned to prioritize my responsibilities, seek support when needed, and remain focused on the long-term vision I have for my life and career.
What I hope this scholarship committee sees in me is not only academic effort but also determination and purpose. My journey has been shaped by resilience, service, and a deep desire to uplift others. Through my nursing career, I hope to provide care that supports patients not only physically but emotionally as well. I want to be a healthcare professional who advocates for patients, listens to their concerns, and treats every individual with dignity and compassion.
Receiving this scholarship would significantly reduce the financial burden of returning to school as a single parent and allow me to focus more fully on my education and clinical training. More importantly, it would support my mission to build a career dedicated to helping others and strengthening my community.
My journey has not always been easy, but it has shaped me into a person who understands the value of perseverance, service, and education. With the support of this scholarship, I will continue working toward becoming a nurse who uses knowledge, compassion, and leadership to make a positive and lasting impact in the lives of others.
Jessie Koci Future Entrepreneurs Scholarship
I am currently pursuing a degree in nursing because I have always been passionate about helping others during the moments when they need compassion and support the most. My journey toward healthcare was shaped by both personal experiences and my desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Nursing allows me to combine science, empathy, and service in a way that directly impacts individuals and families. I chose this field because healthcare professionals are often present during some of the most vulnerable moments in a person’s life, and I want to be someone who provides not only medical care but also comfort, dignity, and understanding.
My decision to pursue nursing was influenced in part by the loss of my aunt, who helped raise me and passed away from cancer less than a year after being diagnosed. Watching someone I loved go through such a difficult illness showed me how important compassionate healthcare providers are to both patients and their families. The nurses who cared for my aunt did more than provide treatment—they offered reassurance, patience, and emotional support during an incredibly difficult time. That experience stayed with me and inspired me to pursue a career where I could provide that same level of care for others.
In addition to my interest in healthcare, I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset. Before returning to school, I built a career in corporate recruiting where I helped individuals secure employment and rebuild stability in their lives. That experience taught me how to identify opportunities, solve problems, and support people in achieving their goals. Entrepreneurship appeals to me because it allows individuals to create solutions that serve communities while also building something meaningful and sustainable.
I believe entrepreneurship and healthcare can work together in powerful ways. In the future, I hope to use my nursing education and professional experiences to develop programs or initiatives that support community health, education, and stability. For example, I would like to create community outreach initiatives that focus on health education, prevention, and connecting individuals to resources that improve their quality of life.
One of the reasons I believe I will be successful in my entrepreneurial endeavors is my resilience and determination. My life experiences have taught me how to overcome challenges and adapt to difficult situations. As a single mother pursuing higher education, I have learned how to balance responsibilities, stay disciplined, and remain focused on long-term goals. I also believe success requires a strong sense of purpose, and my desire to serve others continues to motivate me to keep pushing forward.
Another reason I believe I will succeed is my commitment to learning and growth. Successful entrepreneurs are not afraid to learn from challenges, seek guidance, and continue developing new skills. My journey back to school has already shown me the importance of stepping outside of my comfort zone in order to grow.
To me, a successful life is not defined solely by financial achievements or professional titles. True success means creating a life that reflects your values and positively impacts the lives of others. A successful life is one where you use your talents, education, and experiences to uplift your community, support your family, and contribute to something greater than yourself.
Through my education in nursing and my entrepreneurial mindset, I hope to build a future where I can combine compassion, innovation, and service to make a lasting difference in the world.

My name is Jasmine Kemp, and I would describe myself as someone who is deeply committed to service, resilience, and creating opportunities not only for myself but for others around me. Many of the experiences that have shaped who I am today come from growing up in a single-parent household, becoming a single mother myself, and learning the importance of perseverance, education, and community support.
I was raised by a strong single mother who showed me what determination and sacrifice look like. She worked hard to provide for our family while making sure I understood the importance of responsibility, compassion, and hard work. Those lessons stayed with me and continue to guide my decisions today. Now, as a mother raising my own son, I carry those same values forward. My son is one of my greatest motivations, and I want him to grow up seeing that challenges do not define us—our determination to overcome them does.
Before pursuing healthcare, I built a career in corporate recruiting where I helped individuals find employment and rebuild stability in their lives. Through that work, I realized how powerful opportunity can be. I also volunteered my time helping individuals experiencing housing instability prepare resumes, develop interview skills, and secure employment. Watching someone regain confidence and independence through opportunity was incredibly rewarding and reinforced my belief that community support can truly change lives.
My passion for service eventually led me to pursue nursing. I wanted to make a more direct impact on people’s lives and be present during moments when compassion and care matter most. I am currently working toward my nursing degree with the goal of becoming a registered nurse who provides not only excellent medical care but also empathy and support to patients and their families. Healthcare professionals often meet people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, and I want to be someone who brings both skill and compassion into those situations.
Another important part of my journey has been my involvement in pageantry. Competing in pageants has allowed me to use my voice and platform to advocate for issues that matter to me, including stability, opportunity, and community empowerment. Pageantry has given me the confidence to share my story and inspire others, particularly women and young people, to pursue their goals despite obstacles.
Looking ahead, I plan to use my education, experiences, and voice to make a positive impact in my community. As a nurse, I want to advocate for patients, promote health education, and support individuals who may feel overlooked or underserved. I also want to continue mentoring and encouraging others, especially young people, to believe in their potential and pursue opportunities that can transform their lives.
Ultimately, my goal is to build a life centered on service. Whether through healthcare, community involvement, or mentorship, I hope to contribute to a future where people feel supported, valued, and empowered to create better lives for themselves and their families.
VNutrition and Wellness Nursing Scholarship
My decision to pursue nursing is rooted in my desire to help people improve not only their immediate health conditions but also their long-term well-being. One of the most important aspects of overall health is nutrition. Proper nutrition plays a critical role in preventing disease, supporting recovery, and improving quality of life. As a future nurse, I believe I have a responsibility to help patients understand how the foods they eat directly affect their health and to empower them to make healthier choices.
Many people struggle with nutrition not because they do not care about their health, but because they lack access to information, resources, or support. In many communities, especially those facing economic challenges, healthy food options may be limited or difficult to access. As a nurse, I want to approach nutrition education with compassion and understanding. Instead of simply telling patients what they should or should not eat, I want to work with them to create realistic and achievable changes that fit their lifestyle and circumstances.
One step I plan to take is educating patients about the connection between nutrition and chronic health conditions. Many illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and high blood pressure are strongly influenced by diet. By helping patients understand how nutrition affects these conditions, nurses can empower individuals to take a more active role in managing their health. Simple education about portion sizes, balanced meals, and the importance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can make a significant difference.
Another important step is encouraging prevention through early education. Nurses often serve as trusted healthcare professionals who patients feel comfortable speaking with. During patient interactions, I hope to take time to discuss small lifestyle adjustments that can lead to long-term improvements in health. Even simple habits such as drinking more water, reducing processed foods, or preparing meals at home more often can contribute to better health outcomes.
Community outreach is another area where nurses can help improve nutrition. I have always been passionate about helping individuals in my community build stability and access opportunities. As a nurse, I would like to participate in or support community programs that provide nutrition education, health screenings, and wellness resources. These programs can help individuals learn practical ways to improve their health while also addressing barriers such as food insecurity.
Finally, I believe that leading by example is an important part of encouraging healthier habits. Healthcare professionals who model balanced lifestyles and speak positively about healthy choices can influence patients and communities in meaningful ways.
My goal as a nurse is not only to treat illness but also to promote prevention and wellness. By educating patients, supporting healthier choices, and advocating for better access to nutritious food, I hope to help individuals improve both their nutrition and their overall health. Small changes in daily habits can lead to significant improvements over time, and I want to be part of guiding people toward healthier and more empowered lives.

I chose to pursue a career in healthcare because I have always been drawn to helping people during moments when they need support the most. My life experiences, both personal and professional, have shown me how powerful compassionate care can be. Healthcare allows me to combine my passion for service with the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives every day.
Before returning to school, I built a career in corporate recruiting. In that role, I helped individuals secure employment and rebuild stability in their lives. One of the most fulfilling parts of that work was seeing people regain confidence and hope when they were given opportunities to move forward. I also spent time volunteering in my community, helping individuals experiencing housing instability prepare resumes and interview for jobs. Those experiences reinforced my belief that service and advocacy can truly change lives.
However, after experiencing the loss of my aunt, who helped raise me and passed away from cancer less than a year after being diagnosed, I began to reflect more deeply on the kind of impact I wanted to have in the world. Watching her go through illness and witnessing the compassion shown by the nurses who cared for her left a lasting impression on me. The nurses did more than provide medical care—they offered comfort, dignity, and emotional support during an incredibly difficult time for my family. Seeing the difference they made inspired me to pursue a career where I could provide that same level of care to others.
That experience ultimately led me to pursue nursing. Nursing allows me to support people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives while also advocating for their health, safety, and well-being. I believe nursing is a profession that blends science, compassion, and human connection in a way that truly impacts individuals and families.
Returning to school to pursue nursing has been both challenging and rewarding. As a single mother raising my son, I work hard to balance my responsibilities while continuing to move toward my goals. My son is one of my greatest motivations, and I want him to see that dedication, education, and perseverance can open doors and create opportunities.
In the future, I plan to use my nursing degree to serve communities that need compassionate healthcare providers. I want to be a nurse who not only provides excellent clinical care but also listens to patients, advocates for them, and treats them with dignity and respect. My goal is to make patients feel supported and understood during times when they may feel afraid or uncertain.
Ultimately, my decision to pursue healthcare comes from a desire to help others and create positive change. Through my nursing career, I hope to provide care that goes beyond treating illness and instead focuses on supporting the whole person—physically, emotionally, and mentally.

My experiences with mental health have shaped the way I view people, relationships, and the type of impact I want to make in the world. Throughout my life, I have learned that mental health is just as important as physical health, yet it is often overlooked or misunderstood. Seeing how stress, loss, and life challenges affect individuals and families has helped me develop a deeper sense of empathy and compassion for others.
One of the experiences that influenced my perspective was the loss of my aunt, who helped raise me and passed away from cancer less than a year after being diagnosed. Watching someone I loved deeply face such a serious illness was emotionally difficult for my family. It taught me how grief, fear, and uncertainty can affect not only the person experiencing illness but also the people who love them. During that time, I realized how important emotional support and compassionate care are when individuals are facing difficult life situations.
As a single mother raising my son, I have also learned how important mental strength and emotional resilience are. Balancing school, work, and parenting requires discipline and perseverance, but it also requires taking care of my mental well-being. I want my son to grow up in an environment where emotional health is openly acknowledged and supported. I believe that normalizing conversations about mental health helps remove stigma and encourages people to seek the support they need.
My experiences have also strengthened my relationships with others. I try to approach people with understanding and patience because I recognize that everyone carries challenges that may not always be visible. Whether it is offering encouragement, listening to someone who needs to talk, or supporting individuals through difficult moments, I believe compassion can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
These experiences have also influenced my career aspirations. I am currently pursuing my nursing education because I want to work in a profession that allows me to support individuals both physically and emotionally. Healthcare professionals often encounter patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I believe that understanding mental health is a critical part of providing holistic care. Patients are not only experiencing physical symptoms—they may also be dealing with fear, anxiety, grief, or uncertainty.
As a future nurse, I want to be someone who recognizes the importance of both physical and emotional well-being. I hope to create a supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and cared for. By showing compassion and understanding, I believe healthcare providers can help patients feel more comfortable and supported during difficult times.
My long-term goal is to use my education and experiences to make a positive impact on my community. I want to help create spaces where individuals feel safe discussing their mental health and where they know their emotional well-being matters. Whether through patient care, advocacy, or simply offering support during challenging moments, I hope to contribute to a healthcare system that values the whole person.
My journey has taught me that strength is not just about overcoming challenges—it is also about supporting others as they navigate their own struggles. Through my education and future career, I hope to continue promoting compassion, understanding, and care for both mental and physical health.

Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household shaped many of the values and strengths that guide my life today. My mother raised me on her own, and watching her navigate the responsibilities of parenting, work, and life challenges taught me lessons about resilience, determination, and unconditional love. She worked hard to provide for our family while also making sure I understood the importance of education, responsibility, and treating others with kindness. Seeing her strength as a single mother left a lasting impression on me and shaped the way I approach my own life.
Now, as a single mother myself raising my son, I often reflect on the example my mother set for me. Becoming a parent deepened my understanding of the sacrifices she made and the perseverance it takes to build a stable future for your child. Being both a provider and a role model requires balance, patience, and determination. My son motivates me every day to push forward, even during moments when life feels challenging. I want him to see that obstacles do not define us—our determination to overcome them does.
Growing up in a single-parent household also taught me the importance of community and support. When resources are limited, you learn quickly how powerful encouragement and opportunity can be. That understanding has shaped my passion for helping others. Throughout my life, I have been drawn to work and volunteer opportunities where I can support people who are trying to rebuild stability in their lives. Whether it is helping someone prepare for a job interview, offering guidance, or simply listening, I believe that small acts of support can have a lasting impact.
These experiences have influenced the goals I have for my future. I want my life and career to be centered around service and compassion. I believe that everyone deserves access to opportunity, dignity, and support during difficult moments. Because of the experiences I have had, I feel a strong responsibility to use my talents to uplift others and help create pathways for people who may feel overlooked or discouraged.
Looking toward the future, I see myself continuing to build a life where service is at the center of what I do. I am currently pursuing my education with the goal of entering a field where I can directly help individuals and families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. My experiences growing up in a single-parent household, and now raising my own son, have given me a deep sense of empathy for people who are working hard to overcome challenges while striving to create a better future.
More importantly, I want to show my son that success is not only measured by personal achievements, but also by the positive impact we make in the lives of others. I want him to see that perseverance, compassion, and hard work can create opportunities not only for ourselves but for the communities around us.
Being raised by a single mother taught me strength. Becoming one has taught me purpose. Both experiences have shaped my commitment to building a future where I can use my talents, education, and voice to help others find stability, hope, and opportunity.

My journey toward becoming a nurse has been shaped by resilience, service, and a deep commitment to creating a better future for both my family and the communities around me. As a single mother raising my son, many of the values that guide my life today—perseverance, compassion, and determination—have been shaped by the responsibility I carry to lead by example and build a life rooted in purpose and service.
For several years, I worked in corporate recruiting, helping individuals secure employment and rebuild stability in their lives. While I found success in that field, the most meaningful moments in my career were not tied to business outcomes or hiring goals. Instead, they came from helping people who were struggling find opportunity again. I often volunteered my time within my community teaching resume-writing workshops and helping individuals experiencing housing instability prepare for interviews and secure employment. Watching someone walk into a room feeling discouraged and walk out with renewed confidence was incredibly powerful. Those experiences showed me how access to opportunity can transform lives and reinforced my belief that service to others should remain at the center of my work.
Through my community work, I also began to see the deeper challenges many individuals face, particularly barriers related to healthcare. Many of the people I supported were not only struggling financially but were also dealing with health concerns without consistent care or resources. I realized that while helping people find employment was meaningful, I wanted to serve individuals in an even more direct and personal way. That realization ultimately led me to pursue nursing.
Nursing stood out to me because it represents the intersection of science, compassion, and advocacy. It is a profession where knowledge and technical skill meet humanity and empathy. At the heart of healthcare is what I believe to be the most important element of patient care: the human touch. To me, human touch represents the compassion, respect, and connection that healthcare providers bring into every interaction with a patient. While medicine treats illness, human connection supports healing.
Human touch can take many forms. Sometimes it is as simple as listening to a patient who feels afraid, offering reassurance before a difficult procedure, or taking a moment to explain something in a way that brings comfort and understanding. These small acts can reduce anxiety and build trust between patients and caregivers. When patients feel seen, heard, and respected, they are more likely to feel supported during what may be one of the most vulnerable experiences of their lives.
Returning to school to pursue nursing as a single mother has been one of the most challenging and rewarding decisions I have ever made. Balancing coursework, studying, parenting, and work requires constant determination and discipline. Many nights my son sits beside me as I review medical concepts or prepare for exams. In those moments, I am reminded that this journey is not only about my own aspirations but also about the example I am setting for him. I want him to grow up seeing that perseverance, education, and courage can open doors and change the course of our lives.
My goal is to become a registered nurse who provides compassionate, high-quality care while advocating for individuals who may feel unheard or underserved. Receiving this scholarship would help relieve some of the financial challenges that come with returning to school as a single parent and allow me to focus more fully on my education and clinical training while continuing to serve others through healthcare.

Cancer has had a deeply personal impact on my life and shaped the way I view health, family, and the career path I have chosen. My aunt, who helped raise me and played a major role in my upbringing, passed away from cancer less than a year after being diagnosed. She was more than an aunt to me—she was like a second mother. She helped guide me through important moments in my life, and losing her so quickly was devastating for our entire family.
When my aunt was diagnosed, everything happened so fast. One moment she was the strong and supportive woman who had always been there for me, and the next she was facing a life-threatening illness. Watching someone you love battle cancer is one of the most difficult experiences a family can face. There were moments of hope, but there were also moments of fear and uncertainty. In less than a year, we lost someone who had been such a central part of my life.
During that time, I paid close attention to the healthcare professionals who cared for her, especially the nurses. What stood out to me most was not only the medical care they provided, but the compassion they showed toward my aunt and our family. They treated her with patience, dignity, and kindness during an incredibly vulnerable time. They took time to explain things to us, comfort her when she was afraid, and support our family as we tried to understand what was happening. Their compassion made a lasting impression on me.
Losing my aunt forced me to reflect deeply on the kind of impact I wanted to make in the world. For many years, I worked in corporate recruiting, helping people secure employment and rebuild stability in their lives. While that work was meaningful, I began to realize that I wanted to help people in an even more direct way. My aunt’s experience helped me understand how powerful compassionate healthcare can be, not only for patients but for their families as well.
That realization played a major role in my decision to pursue nursing. Returning to school has been both challenging and rewarding, especially as a single mother raising my son. Balancing school, studying, work, and parenting requires determination and sacrifice. There are many nights when my son sits beside me while I study for exams or review medical concepts. In those moments, I am reminded why this journey matters so much.
My son is my greatest motivation. I want him to grow up seeing that perseverance, education, and courage can change the course of our lives. Pursuing nursing is not only about achieving my own goals, but also about showing him that it is possible to follow your purpose and make a difference in the lives of others.
The loss of my aunt taught me the importance of compassion, presence, and human connection during life’s most difficult moments. Her strength continues to inspire me as I work toward becoming a nurse. I hope to provide the same comfort, dignity, and care to patients and families that the nurses gave to my aunt during her battle with cancer.
Rose Ifebigh Memorial Scholarship

My journey toward becoming a nurse has been shaped by my life experiences, my dedication to service, and my role as a single mother raising my son. Making the decision to leave my corporate career and return to school to pursue nursing was not easy, especially as a single mother. Stability is something every parent strives to provide for their child, and stepping away from a comfortable career to start a new path required faith, courage, and determination. I knew, however, that I wanted my son to see what it looks like to pursue a dream with purpose and resilience.

Losinger Nursing Scholarship
My journey toward becoming a nurse has been shaped by my life experiences, my commitment to service, and my role as a single mother raising my son. Nursing, to me, represents more than a profession—it represents compassion, advocacy, and the ability to bring a human connection into moments when people need it most.
For many years, I worked in corporate recruiting, helping individuals secure employment and rebuild stability in their lives. While I was successful in that field, the most rewarding part of my work was not simply filling positions, but witnessing the transformation in people who were given an opportunity to move forward. I often volunteered in my community, teaching resume-writing workshops and helping individuals experiencing housing instability prepare for interviews and secure jobs. Watching someone regain confidence and hope through those opportunities was incredibly powerful and reinforced my passion for helping others.
Through that work, I realized that many of the individuals I supported were also facing health challenges and barriers to care. I began to reflect on how I could serve people in an even deeper and more personal way. That reflection led me to nursing. I wanted to be present for people during their most vulnerable moments—when they are afraid, in pain, or navigating uncertain medical situations. Nursing stood out to me because it combines knowledge, compassion, and advocacy in a way that directly impacts lives every day.
One concept that deeply resonates with me in healthcare is the idea of the human touch. To me, human touch represents empathy, kindness, and genuine connection between a caregiver and a patient. Healthcare is built on science and clinical skill, but healing often begins with compassion. Patients are not simply medical cases; they are individuals with fears, emotions, and stories that deserve to be acknowledged.
Human touch can be expressed through both physical and emotional presence. It might be as simple as holding a patient’s hand, offering reassurance, or taking a moment to truly listen. These small acts can reduce fear and build trust, especially for patients who may feel overwhelmed or vulnerable in medical environments. When patients feel seen and heard, it can significantly improve their overall experience and help them feel supported throughout their care.
Making the decision to leave my corporate career and return to school as a single mother was not easy. Balancing school, work, and parenting requires constant dedication and resilience. Many nights my son sits beside me as I study for exams and review medical concepts. In those moments, I am reminded that this journey is not only about my own goals, but about setting an example for him. I want him to see that perseverance, education, and courage can create new opportunities and change the course of our lives.
My community service remains central to who I am. Helping individuals secure employment taught me how powerful compassion and support can be in transforming lives. As a future nurse, I plan to carry that same commitment into healthcare by providing patient-centered care that respects each person’s dignity and humanity.
Ultimately, nursing represents the intersection of my life experiences, my passion for service, and my desire to build a better future for my son while uplifting others. I believe the human touch is what transforms healthcare from a clinical process into a truly healing experience, and I am committed to bringing that compassion into every patient interaction throughout my career.

My journey toward becoming a nurse has been shaped by my life experiences, my dedication to service, and my role as a single mother raising my son. Nursing is not simply a career change for me—it is a purpose-driven path that reflects my desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others while building a stable and inspiring future for my family.
For many years, I worked in corporate recruiting. In that role, I helped individuals find employment and rebuild their confidence through meaningful work. While I was proud of the success I had in my career, the most fulfilling part of my work was not filling positions or meeting hiring goals—it was seeing the transformation in people who were given a second chance. I often volunteered my time in the community, teaching resume-building workshops and helping individuals experiencing housing instability prepare for job interviews and secure employment. Watching someone walk into a room feeling discouraged and walk out believing in themselves again was incredibly powerful. Those experiences deepened my commitment to service and showed me the impact that advocacy and support can have on a person’s life.
Through my community work, I began to reflect on how I could serve people in an even greater capacity. Many of the individuals I worked with faced not only economic challenges but also health concerns and barriers to care. I realized that I wanted to be present for people in their most vulnerable moments—when they are sick, afraid, or navigating complex healthcare systems. Nursing stood out to me as a profession that combines compassion, science, advocacy, and hands-on care in a way that directly impacts lives every day.
Balancing school, work, and parenting has been one of the greatest challenges of my life, but it has also been one of the most rewarding. Many nights my son sits beside me as I study for exams or review medical concepts. In those moments, I am reminded that this journey is about more than my own career—it is about setting an example for him. I want him to grow up knowing that hard work, education, and perseverance can open doors and create opportunities that once seemed impossible.
Community service continues to remain at the heart of who I am. Helping individuals secure employment and regain stability showed me how powerful compassion and support can be in transforming lives. As I continue my nursing education, I plan to carry that same commitment into healthcare settings, advocating for patients and ensuring they feel respected, supported, and cared for.
My goal is to become a registered nurse and continue growing in the profession so that I can serve communities that need compassionate healthcare providers. Nursing represents the intersection of my life experiences, my passion for helping others, and my desire to create a better future for my son.
Receiving this scholarship would help alleviate the financial burden of returning to school as a single parent and allow me to focus more fully on my education and clinical training. More importantly, it would support a journey rooted in resilience, service, and the belief that when we uplift others, we strengthen our entire community.

Susie Green Scholarship for Women Pursuing Education
At midnight, after my son finally went to sleep, my kitchen table would transform into my classroom.
My laptop sat open beside anatomy notes, flashcards, and a half-finished cup of coffee. The house would finally be quiet after a long day of work and parenting, and that’s when my second shift would begin—studying, reading, and preparing for the future I had decided to fight for.
Just a short time before those late-night study sessions began, I had a completely different life. I worked in corporate recruiting, managing hiring for hundreds of employees and helping organizations build strong teams. From the outside, it looked like I had everything figured out: a stable career, professional success, and years of experience in a field I knew well.
But the truth was, I felt called to something more.
Throughout my career, I worked closely with individuals trying to rebuild their lives. Many were facing housing instability or recovering from difficult circumstances. Through my work and community outreach, I helped people create resumes, prepare for interviews, and secure employment opportunities that helped them regain stability.
Watching someone land a job and regain confidence was powerful.
But over time, I began to see something deeper in their stories.
Behind many of their struggles was a health crisis—an illness that went untreated, a medical emergency that drained their savings, or a lack of access to healthcare that pushed them further into instability. I realized that while helping someone find a job can change their circumstances, helping someone heal can change the entire direction of their life.
That realization awakened a dream I had carried quietly for years: becoming a nurse.
Making the decision to go back to school as an adult required courage in ways I never expected. I am not only a student—I am also a mother to an active teenager who looks to me for guidance and support. Choosing to pursue nursing meant stepping away from the comfort of my corporate career and starting over in many ways.
It meant trading conference calls and recruiting strategies for anatomy textbooks and science exams.
It meant financial sacrifices and balancing work part-time while attending school.
It meant long nights of studying after full days of responsibilities.
But it also meant choosing purpose.
Today, I am pursuing nursing at Anne Arundel Community College with the goal of becoming a registered nurse and eventually advancing my education to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Every class, every exam, and every challenge is another step toward the life I know I am meant to live.
My journey back to school is about more than a career change—it is about expanding the impact I can have in my community. Through my work helping individuals facing housing instability secure employment, I have seen how one opportunity can transform a person’s future. Nursing will allow me to support people in an even deeper way, caring for them during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
Most importantly, this journey allows me to lead by example for my son. I want him to see that courage isn’t about having an easy path—it’s about believing in your purpose enough to pursue it, even when the road ahead feels uncertain.
Going back to school required sacrifice, resilience, and faith in myself. But I believe the most powerful decision a person can make is to pursue the life they were meant to live.
And for me, that life begins in a hospital, wearing scrubs, caring for others as a nurse.
