This scholarship opportunity because I am an innovative problem solver. Over the last three years as a team manager and student council, I helped reorganize my entire school basketball team and library to better accommodate today’s students needs. I worked with coaches’ side by side and the library staff to categorize books in way that reflects current school subjects needs. I will use the same leadership mindset to obtain my nursing degree with a focus in helping others as a nurse practitioner and health administration. My ultimate goal is to work in health management to increase efficiency in nurse practitioners and helping others. While many focus on accessible health insurance, I help solve accessible healthcare providers. Nurse practitioners often go unappreciated and unrecognize for their versatility and value in the medical profession. With this scholarship, I could continue my training to become a nurse practitioner and provide attainable medical services to underserved communities. My parents are from a small town in Haiti called Gonaives the closest Hospital was 45 minutes away. The only family doctor in town charged whatever he wanted for an appointment because he was the sole provider. As a little girl I’m asthmatic my parents relied on home remedies to treat me. This is when my passion for medicine first took form. Minimal medical care was not a concern until my parents went in the hospital with me for a sever asthmatic attack. It took days to get the inflammation under control and to get some preventative medication for me. When I decided to go to college, I knew I wanted to help people like myself. I chose to become a nurse practitioner because I can practice medicine charging a fortune for my services. Nurse practitioners are particularly beneficial in rural communities where hospitals and doctors are limited or non-existent. These are the areas I plan to serve.
